What's your favorite Subaru death moments?? 🪦

Natsuki Subaru’s deaths can be absolutely gruesome. It’s painful to watch him suffer, especially when you can see how terrified he is of dying.

But sometimes, Subaru knows that death will send him back, and he willingly sacrifices his life to change the future. Those moments hit completely differently. The moment he accepts his death and chooses to die for someone else, that “pathetic” Subaru suddenly looks incredibly heroic.

That contrast is what makes his deaths so powerful.

What’s your favourite Subaru death moment? 🥺

Berserk deserves a real anime. Which studio could actually pull it off?

Berserk is one of the best manga ever made, but every anime attempt has fallen short in some way. The 1997 series is beloved but only covers a fraction of the story. The 2016/2017 CGI seasons are infamous for how bad they look despite decent source material to work with.

At this point the manga has more than enough content for a proper long form adaptation. So which studio do you think has the right mix of budget, art style, and respect for the source to finally do it justice? MAPPA, WIT, Ufotable, someone else entirely?

Curious what everyone here thinks and why.

Orihime finally got the payoff her arc deserved in The Calamity Episode 5

I just watched Episode 5 of The Calamity and I need to talk about what they did with Orihime, because I think people are going to undersell how big this moment actually is.

For a long stretch of the original series she was stuck in the damsel role. Soul Society, Hueco Mundo, even parts of the Fullbring arc, she spends so much time doubting whether she belongs on the battlefield at all. She wants to help but she is scared of getting in the way, scared of being the reason someone else gets hurt. That fear follows her for years of the story.

This episode flips it completely. Ichigo is not the one protecting her anymore. He needs her to survive Yhwach, and she does not flinch. She plants herself on the front line and holds it.

What gets me is how the show ties her power directly to her mental state. Santen Kesshun has always worked that way. When she doubts herself the shield cracks. When she is certain, it holds. So watching her block something as absurd as Yhwach's reality warping attack is not just a cool fight moment, it is proof that the insecurity is gone. Her rejection ability finally hits its ceiling because her spirit is not broken anymore.

I keep going back and forth on how this compares to her Hueco Mundo arc though. Her talks with Ulquiorra about what the heart actually is were the emotional backbone of her whole character. Real, quiet, philosophical growth. But that arc never gave her a moment where she got to prove it in a fight. Episode 5 is the opposite. Less talking, more standing her ground when it counts. Together they finally close the loop. She goes from someone who wants to help to someone who can actually hold the line, without losing the kindness that made her Orihime in the first place.

Curious what everyone else thought. Did this episode finally sell you on her as an equal to Ichigo, or do you think the show still leans on her more as support even here?

Re:ZERO Season 4 director Masahiro Shinohara revealed an unblurred version of the Rem scene from Episode 13!

Anime - Re:ZERO

The director commented: “Please take a look at Rem, who you couldn’t see in the actual episode because of Subaru’s tears.

All of the staff worked really hard on this, so I thought it would be a shame for her to remain unseen like that."
