So I'm currently writing my slice of life romance story Julia in Color and the newest completed chapter went in a completely different direction than intended. Where i intended to take the chapter through a day of tests (kind of an exam week but different) at school the chapter instead turned out to drop a nuke about the main support character and probably one of the most chaotic chapters i've written so far.

So i wonder, to those authors who write slice of life stories, have you ever had something similiar where the actual chapter events completely derailed from the plan?

Ollie has confirmed we are getting long 125mph running soon. Now i'd like to speculate and theorize what that might involve. This information might have changed since i've been shown his comment but as im not on discord i dont know unless kind souls post his comments to reddit. So with that out of the way lets speculate :)

I personally think the Norrington-Cuffley section might see an extensive overhaul.
Why so? Let me explain why i think that.

Long 125mph running

I think this 100% involves Cuffley in some sort. There is currently no other place where there are similiar speedlimits in the map compared to the speedlimits we see on the NML. I think we can reasonably rule out that Belmond-Freston is getting redone yet again as it was touched up during 1.4.0. So therefore i think our section of intrest is Leaton-Cuffley. But first lets rule out the other area's, Millbridge Mainline? 100mph, while high enough i personally do not see a 125mph extention sprawling off the MBML any time soon. Considering what the Millbridge to Pencarn section is based on it wouldn't make sense to add 125mph sections here either. So i think we can rule out the MBML as this thing taking place. The VCL is out of the question for the same reason, 125mph sections just do not make sense here considering the theme of the VCL and Ashdean branch.

I see 2 possibilities which we should explore:

1: Revamp of Belmond-Avonhill and potentially extending it. The linespeeds here are already north of 100mph (110) and redoing Belmond-Rowton to 110-125 shouldn't be that difficult but with Fleetwood and Rowton (slightly) having recently been redone i personally think that if we see speed increases here we either will see EPS on the 80 section from Belmond to Rowton or a general overhaul to 110mph.

2: Leaton->Cuffley rework. Some of the oldest sections in the game (apart from the VCL). Hulme Heath could do with a rework. But there is one thing that makes me believe that what Ollie was getting at is going to happen here. The keyword being "Long" The key thing: Leaton to Norrington is already 125mph (apart from the IC track towards Hulme from Norrington for some reason, i think devs forgot to place back a 125 sign :P) so with Ollie having mentioned the word long i personally think we are going to see this section reworked again. It would make sense as IF the Cuffley extention that has been hinted at is indeed 125mph i personally wouldn't really quallify it as "Long" if it was broken up by the current state of Cuffley to Norrington. I've checked yesterday and the 125mph section that we currently do have is approximately 12 minutes (skipping Freston Junction and Hulme). So if what Ollie was hinting at means Long continious 125mph running it for me only makes sense if Norrington to Cuffley is going to see a huge speed increase to 125mph. Having checked Norringtons inspiration Darlington, the 125mph tracks do continue throughout the station. So if Ollie ment long continious 125mph running i personally think that it must have something to do with Norrington-Cuffley seeing speed increases. Why do i think this? As elaborated on before i do not see any other area's in the map where the theming and speedlimits would make sense if 125mph was maintained throughout the sections. I might have tunnelvision and might be horribly wrong but seeing what we have ingame makes me believe that we might see something happen to Norrington-Cuffley to permit 125mph running there. What i think might also happen is EPS sections here where tilting trains might be permitted 125 and other trains 110. Might see use for the class 390 pendolino :)

However regardless if something happens i do think one thing is very likely when Cuffley sees its extention. I highly believe Wallsend is going to lose its IC services once Cuffley gets extended. I think this will happen regardless of what speedlimits are going to exist after the Cuffley extention is released. For me it makes no sense for Wallsend to maintain its status if Cuffley were to be extended since then intercities would be wasting speed. While i have nothing against Wallsend and can understand it remains an IC stop post Cuffley extention i just do not any reason why Wallsend (given it's size) would remain as a IC stop. I personally think that Cuffley might become limited in Wallsend's place. Now IF this section was indeed assigned a 125mph limit i feel like that might completely seal Wallsend's fate and it might then join Meryon and Newhurst as the 3rd station to lose its IC status (although i hope Hulme joins that list too!)

Sorry for the yapping i got carried away but i love to hear what you'd think about it

I would like to share my wishlist for British Railway and just talk about the things that i would love to see in British Railway even if they might be a bit out of reach due to limitations i dont know about. Sorry for the yapping it'll be a long one xD

1: Extended 125mph operations.

I really feel like we could do with more places and/or longer sections of actual 125mph running. Especially with that 110 from Norrington to Hulme Heath (surprisingly the other way around it still remains 125mph, could someone confirm if this is intended or a bug? Im not on discord) the places where we can actually hit 125mph are very limited and i personally would like to see more 125mph sections. How would i approach it: With the devs having figured out how to make the map bigger we could potentially increase the distance inbetween Leaton and Norrington or we could overhaul Norrington to Cuffley (and extend it with a few miles) to allow 125 there. A short term fix could be to restore the 125mph limit on the Frestond bound track from Norrington instead of having it start at Hulme Heath for Freston bound trains. (so the fast track headed away from Norrington to Hulme Heath)

2: Norrington to Cuffley curve overhaul
I would like to see that painfull 65mph curve to Cuffley revamped and potentially speed increased. It's just an eternal right hander (headed towards Cuffley) which never seems to end. Probably if we overhaul this line as part of my first wish it could be fixed. When the curve gets overhauled we could extend the 90 from Ive through to Norrington over the bypass tracks and out onto the mainline. Heck, we could even extend the 125 through Norrington (looking at Openrailwaymaps the 125mph limit continues through Darlington which is where Norrington is based of) but i could see issues arising with trains coming out of the depot hindering trains at that speed (would likely mean if we do it properly we'd still have to completely overhaul Norrington to ensure trains stopping there and spawning there do initially not conflict with trains going 125mph)

3: Class 810
I would love to see the 810 since from what i've seen it seems to be slightly more powerful than other 80x trains and i'd love to see BR's take on this unit. (and the EMR livery just looks amazing on it in my opinion!)

4: My wishes for the Cuffley extention
You might've figured out by now im an absolute speed demon but i'd love for this extention to feature high speed sections since i feel like the game is lacking that a little bit. While i understand not every place is high speed obviously i just feel like that the high speed trains (HST, 22x, 80x) dont really have proper places to stretch their legs for a longer period of time than 5 minutes at a time. So what i hope is to see some high speed sections on this extention although with the theme set for Norrington to Cuffley i understand that this likely will not be done. Please do not take this as a complaint. It's just what i'd love to see and im already deeply gratefull we got a 125mph stretch at all where we can go zoom!

5: Class 390
I love the Avanti 390 (as a non UK railfan) and i'd love to eventually see it ingame.

6: Class 317

7: VCL revamp
I hope the VCL gets revamped at some point allowing for long consists to go here. Although the current 6 coach limit is a vibe i do secretly hope we will at some point be allowed to run with max length consists here. Personally that would encourage me to drive in this area of the map more often.

I probably have more but ill cut it here as its getting long xD

Released the first 2 chapters (and a chapter building their world) today on an original work, getting 8 hits in 3 hours wasnt on my bingo card in a positive sense!

Im pretty happy with that and cant wait to see how people react once the story actually progresses!
