Swallowed my pride and asked for help with food

I just wanted to share that I realized I had to swallow my pride and once again for the first time in a long time, request help with basic groceries. My hours have been cut right down at work and I’m using it to supplement my Provincial disability. There is no shame in asking for help.

Asked for a work accommodation

Everybody clap.

For background information: I have bipolar disorder, and I’m in Canada.

I’ve been on quetiapine and a high dose of it, 450 extended release along with 50 instant release, for many many months now actually for the 2 1/2 years. In that timeframe, I noticed it was getting harder and harder to start shifts anytime before 9 AM. To the point where I started routinely blowing shifts because I was too embarrassed to admit that I couldn’t wake up in time.

I began to fear losing my job. I really like my job.
The quetiapine is doing its job. Maybe in the future I’ll look at something that’s less sedating.
This evening, after a lot of hesitation and forever gaslighting myself into believing I’m not trying hard enough, I spoke to one of my bosses. Turns out I needed not to be so afraid at all and they are happy to accommodate. I’ve been at this job for about eight years now and I really really enjoy working there.

Telus Presents/Telus Originals disappeared with the new round PVR 😢

Good evening fellow Telus people.

Over a week ago I had my big square PVR replaced with the small round PVR thing that’s way lighter. Anybody know which one I’m talking about? Anyhow, on the old heavy PVR, there was channel 10, and it had Telus presents and Telus documentaries. Are those gone forever now or does anyone know what channel to access them at now? Google gave me a ton of different answers, but I want to hear from you.

My favourite was the Halloween themes. You could get like three hours of spooky steps with carved Halloween pumpkins and spooky music.

Smoke from Saw Creek Wildfire is expected to blow into central-South Vancouver Island overnight/tomorrow. 🇨🇦

My asthma is classified as severe non-allergic, so pollution, illness, cardio exercise, and air changes are my biggest triggers. While I’m just north of where the smoke is to blow in, I’m nervous. Smoke is my worst trigger of all. I will hit up a doctor for prednisone if need be but that stuff messes with my mental health and I already have diagnosed bipolar, and it’s mostly under control.

I truly empathize with everyone in the affected area near Lytton and the smoke affected areas, who have lung conditions. I love being outdoors and I hate needed to stay indoors when it is nice out.

Weight gain and self respect

I’m posting this because it’s something that I have a hard time remembering. I’ve had a hell of a time with weight gain and having a hell of a time trying to lose it. I found myself slipping into eating disorder thinking, and believing that my self-worth and how the world sees me, was tied to my size.

My latest mantra is, what’s the worst thing to be other than overweight or fat? There’s way worse things I could be… I could be cruel, mean, unkind, self-centered, destructive, hateful. I list my positive qualities: physically strong, empathetic, deep love for animals, quick humoured, jokester, respectful, encourage my teammates to be respectful…

Back where I started

Hello everybody. I want to say that I have been on Prozac in the past when I was in my late teens and after being hospitalized for severe depression. Now at 36 I’m on it again due to intense perimenopause symptoms, which have been fuelling my bipolar symptoms. I must say I feel so much less raging now and is pairing nicely with my mood stabilizer.

Anyway, hi 👋

Learning to love and accept myself with med/perimenopause weight challenges

Learning to love and accept myself with the medication and perimenopause induced weight challenges

As per the title. I keep having to remind myself that there are WAY worse things I could be, besides being overweight. My old baseline weight was 155 lbs pre diagnosis. Currently I am fluctuating wildly between 175 and 190 lbs. I am very big shouldered and have always had a natural athletic build. I am Canadian btw

I’m now 36, have been in perimenopause for over a year, and am relatively stable on 450 xr of Seroquel and 20 of Prozac. In fact, I believe the switch to Prozac back in March, has dampened the intense mood swings and rages I routinely got from perimenopause. Previously I was on 300 xl bupropion and I think it was lighting a blow torch to the cyclical mood swings. That said, learning that I was in perimenopause, and not losing my mind and my meds feared to have stopped working, had given me massive peace of mind!

I know that losing a few pounds could be beneficial… it’s fucking hard!!!!! Like, much harder than when I was in my 20’s. I have a history of bulimia, anorexia, over exercise,
and restrictive eating. I really don’t wish to go down that path again. Doctors in my area do not like to prescribe diabetes meds unless the person is actively in danger of become diabetic. In the mean time, I focus on incorporating complex carbohydrates like rice/quinoa/whole grains and non-deep fried proteins.

I have a coach who intermittently reminds me of extra weight impacting my running and my times.

What do you all do to maintain a healthy body image when dealing with unwanted weight?

Persistent daily phlegmy cough months after viral chest bug, since end of January. 36F, severe non-allergic asthma, takes preventative meds as prescribed.

Has anyone else having problems with haven’t gotten sick this winter past and still have a phlegm cough each day despite doing everything to be healthy? I tested negative for Covid, and a chest x-ray couple months ago showed nothing, so no pneumonia. I take my Advair and Montelukast as prescribed each and every day and I use my blue inhaler regularly too. It’s much more pronounced when I’m trying to exercise, I’m trying to train to compete at a National level running event this summer, and it’s causing me issues.

I do not smoke, I stay away from smokers, and I have no allergies.
