opportunities in quant after M.Stat at ISI

i'm currently a bachelors student, prior to this i was a studying in canada, but i returned to india for a change. i've always loved mathematics and the sheer abstraction of it, but was always disappointed since not many career opportunities were available in the field. ever since i came across quant finance and stochastic processes, i've been obsessed and been working towards it- learning programming languages and reading finance literature. i want to commit to this field wholeheartedly, and i see that MStat is a promising degree that can help me pivot towards quant roles. any suggestions as to how i can leverage my current position for working in quant in the future. i'm also willing to do a PhD in math, stats or financial engineering. looking forward to your responses :)

eligibility to sit for M.Stat?

i'm really confused, since most of the websites mention math and stats as a requirement to sit for the exam, and others say only a bachelors is required. what's the case?

beginner's advice

i'm an undergrad, reading philosophy, mathematics, political science and economics. i'm quite fascinated by the field of economic history. being from india, i'm a bit familiar with the works of sanjay subrahmanyam, but to a very limited extent. i'd love to hear your advice, any recommendations, where to start, etc.
thank you, looking forward to all of yours' responses :)

beginners roadmap leading up to the capital

assuming that one starts with the communist manifesto, what all books/works would you suggest that will eventually prepare the ground and lead up to the first volume of the capital. the response need not be universally correct, you can give your own unique biased answer. thank you, looking forward to the interesting responses :)

recs for works of biology

i'm a student of economics, and a voracious reader of philosophy. i mostly engage with eastern thought, deleuze, hegel, aurobindo, marx, the logicians, and critical theorists. i recently came across a concept called "bio-phenomenology", and was wondering whether other similar established concepts exist, or any of your own concepts. plus, if you'd want to recommend any standalone works of biology that might be relevant to philosophical thought, that would be much appreciated as well. thank you, looking forward to your responses :)

pairing gödel with some other works

best works to pair with gödel. i'm starting out with nagel and newman's "gödel's proof". i was wondering if wittgenstein or any other philosophy of mathematics works would pair well. i'm very new to the field so i'd highly appreciate any recommendations. thank you, looking forward to your responses :)

beginner at logic

hi! i've always admired logicians like Gödel, Russell and Tarski. i had an almost spiritual pull towards Pricipia Mathematica and Tarski's paradox. i'm currently reading Philosophy, Mathematics, History and Economics as an undergraduate.

please suggest whether i can study logic on my own, or should i ask my math tutor. any other suggestions and recommendations on where to start and exciting works of other lesser known logicians.

thank you! looking forward to your responses :D

third spaces in chd

does chandigarh need third spaces? an intellectually charged environment, away from your college curricula and your jobs, where you can be curious- ask questions, learn, attend cool lectures. i'm not sure if there are any such communities in chandigarh yet, if there were to be, would you join?

21 and lonely.

i left my real friend group back in high school due to some petty disagreements, and eventually befriended the "cool" kids. being a nerd, but also very sociable, the cool kids loved me, but i could never connect w them intellectually or emotionally. my dad passed away when i was 16, which sent me in an absolute dissociation mode. i got into student politics, as i'd always wanted to, to look tough and become tougher to "protect my mother", and also to find a peer group. i'm half hindu-brahmin and half jat-sikh, so i've never fully connected w one community, deep down i've always felt like an outsider. my mum being a jat-sikh, and me being more inclined and affectionate towards her, i chose a jat-sikh peer group. no intellectual or emotional connection, purely transactional(given we were all participants in the student politics). left that group as well, went to canada to study, found rare people, rarer friendships(both spiritually and emotionally, but not intellectually). didn't like it there so returned to india, now i'm starting all over at 21, my college friends are all 3 years younger and the college is a rather decent one(since i had to prepare for multiple competitive examinations so i chose an easy college). i crave intellectual and spiritual friendships, i love philosophy, mathematics, history and drama. but i've literally no one, except my mother whom i can talk to, and we can only have surface level talks, which too we barely have. i could really use some help, because i don't feel good(mentally), and it's almost physically painful.
looking forward to your comments and suggestions :)

where can i learn/study more about Félix Guattari's youth?

first of all i'm really glad that the sub's back, kudos to the mods, thanks a lot folks. secondly about the question, so i've come across articles that partly described guattari's early revolutionary involvements and politics, but no proper texts that discusses the same.

looking forward to your suggestions :)

choosing a niche

hi! i'm an undergraduate reading philosophy, mathematics and economics. i wish to do a masters, and then a phd in economics. i enjoy reading marxian economics, works of political economists, developmental economics and post-Keynesian works. i'm drawn to figures like amartya sen, and other philosophically and morally rich economists.

my question here, is that how does one choose a niche, that they wish pursue during their research as well. according to the above given profile, where do you think i should look next? so that i can move towards finding a niche, that i can stick to and prevent drifting off, which i tend to as a highly restless and curious person.

need sci fi books recs

books that are genuinely sophisticated, in their plot, world-building, character depth, and also have an element of "literary realism" to it. definitely not like best sellers like dune, but more niche and more intellectually pleasing in a sense. something like cryptonomicon, the forever war, frankenstein or neuromancer would be great, but at the same time i wouldn't want you to limit your recs under that umbrella. thank you! looking forward to the coolest ever recs :)
