Accutane + recurring “cold” symptoms every month — anyone else notice it gets triggered by poor sleep or intense workouts?

I’m trying to figure out whether this sounds familiar to anyone on Accutane, because I’ve noticed a really specific pattern.

I started Accutane in March and since then I feel like I’ve been getting knocked out by cold/allergy-like symptoms about once a month. The symptoms are usually:

  • runny nose / drainage down my throat
  • sneezing
  • fatigue
  • headache
  • sometimes enough mucus/congestion that I’m basically useless for 3–4 days

What’s weird is that it seems like it can get triggered by things that normally wouldn’t wreck me — especially a bad night of sleep or sometimes an intense workout / overdoing it physically. For example, if I sleep badly and then push through work the next day, I’ll sometimes feel the symptoms start that same day and then wake up much worse the next morning.

I know Accutane can dry out the nose/sinuses, so I’m trying to figure out whether this is:

  1. an immune system thing / getting actually sick more often
  2. dryness + inflammation that feels like a cold
  3. allergies getting worse while on Accutane
  4. something else entirely

A few questions for anyone who dealt with this:

  • Did Accutane seem to make you get “sick” more often, or did it turn out to be sinus/nasal dryness?
  • Did anything actually help prevent it? (humidifier, saline spray, allergy meds, sleep, lowering workout intensity, supplements, etc.)
  • If you had this, did it improve while still on the medication or only after stopping?

I’m mostly looking for real experiences because this has become a monthly pattern and it’s driving me insane.

How long were you on accutane?

I am getting my accutane through clear health. I originally was going through a local dermatologist who said it would be 6 months on the pill. However, clear health has a 6 month as the minimum for cumulative dose and they recommend 9 months. I am not sure I can personally do 9 months but I am curious what other people did? Were you on it longer/shorter and what for?

Back acne survivors - how long did it take to see results?

I'm currently taking accutane primarily for back acne. All of my teenage and adult life, I've suffered. I've had the worst flair ups of my life the past 3-4 years (I'm in my early 30s, male) and I've had enough. I've been on accutane for 3 months now, about to enter my 4th. My face is SO clear now and I'm so happy with that. However, I am still getting 1-2 back pimples a week. Which is what I was getting before accutane - but some weeks worse than others.

He gave Demi arguably her biggest hits. I'm not sure why she hasn't reunited to create Cool for the Summer 2.0

Family photos without flowers

I am definitely overthinking this. I have a non traditional wedding this evening. Bride not in typical wedding dress + no flowers. I'm struggling on hand placements for everyone. Usually I tell bride to hold flowers and then it kind of flows. What will she do with her hands with groom and without groom and just her family? Any tips?

Getting sick almost every month on Accutane - coincidence or side effect?

TL; dr - Has anyone else gotten repeatedly sick while on Accutane? Trying to figure out if there's a connection.

Hey everyone,

I've been on Accutane since March, and I've been dealing with episodes of illness about once a month. The symptoms are usually a runny nose, excessive mucus, fatigue, and headaches. When it happens, it completely wipes me out and I'm often stuck in bed for most of the weekend.

Timeline:

  • January (before Accutane): sick at the end of the month
  • February (before Accutane): sick at the end of the month
  • April (on Accutane): sick at the beginning of the month
  • May (on Accutane): sick at the end of the month

I've seen doctors and tested negative for both flu and COVID. Their initial thought was allergies, and I did see an allergist who prescribed medication to help manage the symptoms.

For context, I'm generally very healthy. I'm a 34-year-old male, work out 4 times a week, don't drink or smoke, and eat a healthy diet. Historically, I rarely get sick. Last year I got sick once for about a week, and before that it was uncommon for me to get sick at all.

One thing I've noticed is that these episodes seem more likely to happen after an especially intense workout day or after a poor night of sleep. I don't know if that's relevant, but it feels like those things may trigger or worsen the symptoms.

At first I assumed this wasn't related to Accutane because I had two episodes before starting the medication. But now that it keeps happening, I'm starting to wonder whether Accutane could be playing a role, making me more susceptible, or making it harder for my body to recover.

Has anyone experienced recurring cold-, allergy-, or flu-like symptoms while taking Accutane? Did you notice any connection to exercise, sleep, or immune function? If so, did you ever figure out what was causing it?

I'd appreciate hearing about your experiences before I pursue additional medical testing or specialist appointments.

Zendaya's acting

I love Z but is anyone concerned that she's not evolving as a character and actor? How long can you play the awkward teenager trope? I would hope that we see her evolve. Maybe even gain some confidence and start to see more depth from her. I wish they touched more on MJ's backstory.

  • An abusive father
  • Family instability
  • Emotional neglect

Has anyone else experienced a burning sensation from soap + shampoo?

I'm on month 3 of accutane and today my shower felt different. Same soap as I started. Bought the shampoo about a month in because of dry scalp. Today I had an extreme burning sensation on my neck and parts of my body after the shower from my soap. I'm wondering if others have experienced this and what soaps and shampoos are "accutane approved"?

Dog Owners who moved to NYC - how long did it take them to adapt?

I am moving to NYC this fall and I am worried my dog of 6 years who has only been trained to pee and poop in the grass is going to have a hard time adapting to concrete. Did they adapt quickly? Anything that worked for you to get them to do this?

Is the era basically over? What's next?

US tour is done. She has a handful of performances over the next couple months + Brazil in September...is that it? Is the era pretty much done? Is there more to come?

Went to a barely half full showing and ordered a water - it never came

I just came back from the Littleton location in Colorado. I ordered both a water and coke zero before the showing began. Previews started at 7pm and I placed the order likely 5 minutes before. 20 minutes go by and both my water and coke zero are no where to be found but I saw others people food continuing to come out. One couple in my row looked like they had a buffet of food in front of them. I then decided to go see if I could find the kitchen but then went to the front. I know it sounds dramatic but I was extremely thirsty.

The person in the front goes and says just go to the bar and they'll give you free water. I walk in and the bartender isn't even there. A woman tells me "she just left". I'm waiting at least another 4-5 minutes before she walks back in and goes "I'll be right there with you". Another 2-3 minutes as she is serving the food orders at the bar. She then gets to me and I simply ask if I can have a water.

At last. I go back into the theater, almost 10 minutes later and my coke zero finally arrived. I waited to see if my original water would come...IT NEVER DID.

This experience has rubbed such a negative taste in my mouth. I hope this doesn't come off as "1st world problems" but the entire point of their model was that they'll bring your food and drinks to you. There's now NO person to flag down, even if let's say my order was messed up. I'm beyond frustrated. And then you have the nerve to ask me to tip? The service was awful. I have to be honest, I tipped 0. I usually tip 20%.

BAN THE QR CODE SYSTEM. It has way too many flaws. I would have rather went to an AMC where I can stand in line and within minutes, my drinks are being handed to me. Unbelievable. I will be writing to the Littleton location too.

My brutal advice to...Demi Lovato

The full breakdown starts at 19:34 but below is the summary:

The creator, Zaka (the Swiftologist), offers a detailed critique of Demi Lovato (19:33 - 24:00), emphasizing that she is at a point where she needs to "find her why."

Key takeaways from the critique:

  • Critique of recent direction: He describes her shift toward dance and club music in her recent projects as feeling like a "calibrated market response" rather than an authentic artistic evolution (19:53 - 20:15).
  • Disjointed discography: Zaka notes that throughout her career, Demi has struggled to settle on a consistent sound, leading to a disjointed body of work that makes it difficult for fans to identify a singular artistic vision (20:40 - 21:10).
  • Touring and creative vision: He criticizes the staging and creative direction of the It's Not That Deep tour, noting a lack of a cohesive aesthetic or live band, which he felt stood in contrast to artists who put more intentional effort into their visual branding (21:10 - 22:07).
  • Cognitive dissonance: He points out a perceived "cognitive dissonance" in launching a "cool girl" dance album simultaneously with a cookbook, arguing that it makes her artistic image appear confused or unfocused (22:25 - 22:52).
  • Call for authenticity: Ultimately, he suggests that because pop music currently prioritizes authenticity, Demi's main challenge is to reconcile her personal life experiences (recovery, marriage) with the music she chooses to release, urging her to find a more authentic path forward (23:30 - 23:59).

What happens if the show doesn't meet your expectations?

I am looking forward to the show and I am excited to see what elements are added/changed. With that being said, I am anxious that it will go in the complete opposite direction. I'm more worried about the acting abilities of the main cast than ever. I'm also worried that the tone per the trailers and photos is going to be visually darker than I would have wanted it. Will you still watch it? Will you abandon it? What will it take for you to stop watching if it does not meet your expectations?

Demi adding dancers was the best investment she made this era

Is it just me or has the dancers really elevated the performances? I never even knew how Confidence could get any better but the dance performance makes it so good!

Since when did being busy all the time become a flex?

Is it just me, or are we seeing more photographers documenting every move they make in their business as if it's some kind of badge of honor?

And before anyone says, "People want to see behind the scenes of the photographer," I get that. That's not what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about the constant posts about how many weddings you're shooting this weekend, how you're photographing three weddings in a row, how many proposals you sent out today, how many consult calls you have scheduled, or how you've already hit your maximum but just can't bring yourself to turn away another sweet couple. Same with posting your editing queue like clients want to know that you have 10 sessions ahead.

At some point it starts to feel less like sharing and more like performing how busy you are.

Maybe I'm alone on this, but it feels like the industry has started treating being overwhelmed as something to aspire to.
