How do I build Sauron the dark lord and Teval the balanced scale without feeling to similar?
Hey all, currently trying to tame my deck building habit by taking a few of my preferred decks and upgrading them instead of just...constantly building new ones. The power level at my table has also been increasing by the month it seems as we invest more and more and play more having only been into commander for under a year. We sit at high bracket 3, almost bracket 4.
My question is, I have a [[Teval, the Balanced Scale]] that I am upgrading to look more like this which obviously has some self mill and reanimate.
and then my [[Sauron, the Dark Lord]] deck that is a copy from Tomers 50 decks for under 50 dollars here which is reanimator with a LOTR flavor to it.
They both sort of do the same thing in similar colors in a very similar way and I was wondering if there is a better way to distinguish the two? I have seen building more into an amass package with ring tempts so that keeps on theme of the LOTR style which I enjoy, but I am wondering if that is truly the best playstyle for Sauron and if people have had any success with it. I have also seen aristocrats which is really fun in general, sacing my orc army on others people turns and getting pings/draws every time they cast a spell. I have also thought of just doing a grixis good stuff deck from a different grixis commander and just running that with minimal synergy but that doesnt really seem like the most fun.
One of the issues is I dont have a lot of bulk or cards laying around since we are so new to commander and would have to go out and buy any cards and buying 2 whole commander decks gets pricey fast.
Let me know what you all think! I am more for open discussion than anything as I truly cant make up my mind. I like the look of that teval deck so I think unless there is a better way to play it I would probably just work towards that decklist. But for sauron I am truly stumped and would love to hear what others think.
