My Character Lost His Job. Does It Sound Like He Lost His Job?

For context, my weakness is subtext and dialouge, and my strengths are my prose and visuals. So I've been practicing by watching movies, alongside with reading novels, then reading a decent script. So far I've completed reading 3 movie script (I've started doing this recently, and they're quite easy to read. You could binge them in a day. It takes an 1 hour or 2 to finish one) and on the fourth.

Since I'm a panster, I dont quite know why my main character lost his job. Could you tell from reading it? Does it feel force? Oh and for the record, it's a short piece I am wiritng for practice, not somehting I intend to keep going and making it into a full-fledged novel. Though, having some opinions would be wonderful. I really wanna get better at writing, and if you have any suggestions, I am all ears. Thank you.

How Can I be a More Empathetic Writer?

Edit: paragraphs.

Hello, I am an aspiring teen writer. Obviously, because of my age, my wititng would not be mature enough to cover topics since I have no life experience. I know a lot of teen writers have stuff to say but I am not one of them. I am just a typical teenager. My life is basically stay at home, read, watch a movie, scroll on reddit, talk on discord.

Because of this, I quite literary won't write of anything of importance. However, I want to be a better writer, and since I am getting older I am kind of being prompted to go out more, do stuff like find a job, volunteer, etc... I am quite excited as I hope it will make me meet new people, therefore improving my writing. I heard that the number one rule of being a writer -- before reading, writing, seeking feedback, and repeat -- is to experience life. As Stephen King puts it, when talking about his relationship with his family and writing: "Life doesn't support art; it's the other way around."

I am having a hard time applying this to myself as I am neurodivergent, and I grew up in my pubertal years not engaging with a lot of people and when I do something, I never quesiton my actions or how someone else might feel. It has an effect on my writing, in the sense that it's hard writing depth and interiority. I just write in this flat third person that trys to be omniscient because it's hard for me to write a close POV but my attempt just fails and the whole story is cluttered with visual description as though I was writing a movie even though I am a concistent reader.

When I read something, it's hard for me to get attach to a character and I only like "the cool stuff," generally the plot. And when I watch a movie, I just watch it for the sake of enjoyment never thinking about the theme of it, who are the characters, etc.. watching analysis of books and movies just exposes how soulless I am as a person because I never think between the lines.

Everytime I write, I never ask myself why I am doing this, I just do it cuz it sounds cool to my teenage mind, but subconsciously my mind knows it is one dimensional and stupid, so I get imposter syndrome and cringe at what I've written. It kills my motivation

So, genuinely, how can I improve my personality and outlook on life to further advance my writing.

Noobie Here. What Are Some Really Good 1980s Horror?

I'm an imposter. I must admit, I'm not much of a movie horror fan, but are there any good '80s movies that have good characters and dialouge? The Shining wasn't scary, but it sure was fun.

Aspiring Horror Writer Wanting Good Recommendations.

I like Stephen king type of horror, where the horror is day to day stuff, not some cartoonish monster, and it's character driven more than plot. Do you have any good recommendations? Any that's also well written that would teach me how to be a better writer?

HOW MANY WEBNOVELS SHOULD I READ?

Im reading trad books lately as my main form of entertainment. I wanted to read free novels so I downloaded webnovels. I read some, but damn I had limited time and mainly focus on trad books only, since im gonna be writing a horror novel after summer break starts.

Now one things clear: I dont write things I don't read. You obviously need to be a reader to be a better writer.

The struggle is, webnovels are like hundreds of chapters long, if not thousands. What does ur reading routine look like? How much chapters do you read? Do you read different novels at once?

Made this manga for a Shakespeare-inspired comic for an english project.

Context

Our teacher told us to draw it so (1) she could make sure it wasn't AI and (2) she thought that it would be unfair for people who put the effort in drawing if she gave us the choice whether to or not.

We had to choose an act and scene from Twelfth Knight Shakespeare and modernize it. I chose act 1 scene 2, where the female MC (Viola) survived a sea wreckage, only to find out form a country man that he spotted her brother struggling against a mast and he most likely has drowned. After which he told her about the place where they both stood and about this Duke, and she decided to pretend to be an eunuch to work for him as she was a woman and finding a job in the 16th century when your sex wasn't male was impossible.

My one shot, located in modern day Japan, is similar because it has the same themes of deceit and tragedy.

I wrote the dialouge before drawing, because we were graded more based on the story than the art (our teacher did claim that she couldn't draw for her life so she wouldn't judge) so I tried to make the narration interesting, and it is flowery on purpose because I kind of wanted to imitated Shakespeare's language but make it easy for modern reader to understand.

Because we had to write about our comic and also make an edited voice over, I didn't have much time to perfect the art or make my hand writing clean; I drafted the panels but not speech bubbles. We also couldn't bring it home because it was a CPT (weighed as much as exam for marks), and because of that I had to take a picture and enhance it with my editing tool on my galary (Adobe made the whe thing look grainy so I ditched it.)

;)
