Best part of owning TIE Fighter

Had both the original floppy disk version and later the collector's CD ROM as a kid.

My favorite part was the Stele Chronicles book. I must have read this thing dozens of times and would even take it with me to school. The story part is an excellent tale of a citizen of an outer rim world aspiring to join the empire and becoming a TIE pilot. And of course the nerd in me loved all the art work, ship specifications and etc.

Takes me back to a time when buying a game wasn't just for the experience of playing a game, but everything else that went along with it, even when you weren't in front of a screen.

Warcraft II port's touch controls actually work

Playing Warcraft II through the Stratagus engine today.

Every time I've tried to play an RTS on the retroid with touch controls it never seems to work as well as I would like. But this version actually works very well, it's very intuitive.

Just gotta get used to moving around with the minimap rather than the screen edges. Can also just use two fingers and move the screen that way too.

The engine also supports Warcraft 1, but trying to set the screen resolution properly is bugged. PC version of it supports Starcraft, but that support is not finalized. Because it supports multiple games I included it in my 'mega engines' thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/retroid/comments/1rj2ai5/android_ports_of_pc_games_tested_on_rp6_mega/

You can get it yourself on drodin GitHub or even Google Play Store. But see instructions on its website on how to setup the data files. You will need your original game CDs on your PC and then run an app to process them into a format for the Android app to use.

Tested more Native Android Ports of PC/Console games on the RP6

Here to once again show my findings with Android ports that work on the Retroid Pocket 6. Should also work on the RP6, G2, Flip 2, and other Android handhelds as well.

Showing a little bit of everything in this post, ports of PC games, console games, official and unofficial ports, free, and paid releases. Due to rules I will not link apks even if they don't themselves contain any copyright content. Just to avoid any confusion due to the mixture of sources. I list the author and needed information for them to be easily searched. Recommend using Obtanium to install and keep GitHub sources updated.

The list, in order as pictured:

Star Trek: Voyager - Elite Force aka VoyagerSP-Android - imjustadudegamer GitHub:

Recently released port, still being updated constantly, at least 90% done though, still fully playable. The controls were fine out of the box other than there not yet being an option to invert look on the gamepad, I was able to edit the config file to do this though. Looks and runs great otherwise. Supports touch and gamepad menus.

Requires your own copy of game files to run, read instructions on GitHub page on how to setup. I had to download the 1.1 and 1.2 patches and patch the game files on my PC before copying to the RP6.

VoyagerHM-Android also available, Holomatch, haven't tested.

Unreal Tournament aka UT99-Android - Andiweli GitHub:

Same developer as the Unreal port for Android. Sorry for the dark screen but is the nature of the game. Looks great in person on the OLED. Being updated often, usually in parallel with the Unreal release. Controls are setup out of the box, but recommend adjusting the sensitivity. Online server browser does not work but you can connect to local games, but this is one game I don't mind playing with bots.

Read the GitHub page on which game files of your own you need to copy over. Make sure you use the v400 version.

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap aka tmc - MatheoVignaud GitHub:

Works well, has window, render scaling, and frame rate options. Controls well out of the box. Just requires your own copy of the rom to point to for assets. Make sure you use a supported rom, check GitHub for info.

Simpsons Hit & Run - Carlox33 GitHub:

Ported from the PC version. Plays great, controls mapped out of the box. Is a recent release and is getting updated often.

Requires your own game files / assets to run. Make sure to follow the instructions on the GitHub completely to get this to work.

Spiral Knights aka SKapsule - SKonstruct GitHub:

Android port of free mmo game Spiral Knights. Can login as guest if you just want to try. But is completely free to play. Downloads its own game files.

Plants vs. Zombies aka PvZ-Portable wszqkzqk GitHub:

It's Plants vs. Zombies. Touch based. Requires own game files of course, instructions on GitHub. Being updated pretty often currently, plays well.

Zuma aka Zuma Portable - ksylvestre itch.io:

Requires Zuma Deluxe game files. Touch based gameplay. Works better than the half translated apk that I tested previously.

Banjo-Kazooie aka BanjoRecomp-Android - AurelioB GitHub:

Is an Android port of the Banjo Recompiled PC game. Requires your own rom. Controls out of the box, plays well so far. Has mod / texture pack support. Dual screen for Thor users.

Super Smash Bros. aka BattleShip - JRickey GitHub:

Android port of the BattleShip project is out. Getting updated often. Now has mod support, co-op mode, music shuffler and more. Requires your own copy of rom to play, read on GitHub how to extract assets.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Google Play Store, Epic Game Store:

KOTOR 1 and 2 are available as Android releases. Updated to work with both touch and gamepad controls. Great way to play these games. Fairly cheap, but worth getting on sale, and has been available for free on Epic in the past.

Have fun!

Simpsons Hit & Run Android port works

Simpsons Hit & Run Android port available on Carlox33 GitHub tested on the RP6. Requires your own game files / assets from the PC version to run. Make sure to follow the instructions on the GitHub completely to get this to work.

From what I understand this was developed more as a personal / hobby project and then decided to be released, so take that as you will for bugs / features. But appears to be good so far, it's supposed to be completable.

Works well out of the box, you can adjust the game resolution in a config file, but it's already set at 1080.

Zelda Minish Cap has an Android port now

tmc port available on MatheoVignaud github tested on RP6. Requires your own rom file to point the app to.

Works well so far, controls are mapped out of the box. Has options for window and render scaling, framerate options, 120 fps.

Native Android Ports of PC/Console games tested RP6 edition

Gathered up another batch of Android ports to test this year. Now on the Retroid Pocket 6. Should still work fine on the RP5, G2, and Flip 2.

A combination of PC ports, console games, and some others in this post. Some completely free even. From a variety of sources. Due to rules I will not link apks even if they don't themselves contain any copyright content. Just to avoid any confusion. I will list the author so you can search it. Recommend using Obtanium to install and keep GitHub sources updated.

The list in order as shown:

Unreal aka Unreal-Android - Andiweli GitHub:

Recently released port. Runs very well on the RP6 and looks great on the OLED screen. A bit hard to capture the colors in my photo. I did have to fuss with the controller mapping a bit, most was mapped out of the box but had to remap the sticks and a few other buttons. They did just push an update patch for the controls after I tested it.

To install follow the directions on the GitHub page. This is for the original v200 version of Unreal, not Unreal Gold. You will have to source these specific game files for it. Recommend finding an archive. The app will ask for the location of the game files and verify them on first run.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess aka dusk - TwilitRealm GitHub

Everyone probably already knows of this one by now but. This is a prime example of a good port right here. As you can see in my screen I haven't gotten very far in it yet but looking forward to playing through this one. Love that it has a lot of video settings. Looks great. Sounds good, make sure to do the JamesDSP tweak, OdinTools on the RP6, to get the best audio quality from your device. Search this sub for more info.

Controls are setup out of the box but easily configured. Requires original Gamecube game rom of course.

Animal Crossing GameCube aka Slider - turtlekiosk website:

This is a web port, you can play it straight from the webpage or 'install' it your device. Look for the install button. I recommend installing it in case the site disappears. Requires original Gamecube game disc image, make sure you use an .iso or .gcm.

Honestly I don't enjoy Animal Crossing so I obviously didn't get far. But it does seem to perform very well. It is an early build though.

Controls out of the box, just make sure to set the opacity of the touch controls to zero to hide them. Has some built in video filters.

Maelstrom - libsdl-org GitHub:

Maelstrom is a licensed open source port of the original shareware game for the Macintosh. This is a free release, all assets are included.

It's basically Asteroids, or Comet Busters. Simple game, controls are already mapped.

Gloom aka ZGloom-Android - Andiweli GitHub:

Another free port, of an old Commodore Amiga FPS game. All assets included.

Controls well out of the box, looks great on the OLED screen. Lots of video options.

Streets of Rage 4 - Google Play Store or Epic Games Store:

I previously made a thread on this one being free on the Epic Games Store app. It's no longer free, so you missed it. But it's very affordable and worth it. There's also other ways to play it, like the Steam release. Just wanted to include it in this post, because it's awesome. Looks great and controls out of the box.

Link's Awakening DX aka Zelda LA DX HD - BigheadSMZ GitHub:

Follow instructions on the GitHub page and other threads on how to set this one up. It's not the easiest for some.

Does look great, sounds good. It has many options to customize your gameplay. The look, the GUI, camera, modifiers, all of it. Controls were fine out of the box.

Dangerous Dave - kewtstudios itch:

This is actually a fan made remake of Dangerous Dave, in Unreal Engine. It looks really good, has touch and gamepad controls. However, you cannot hide the touch controls from on screen. This one is just an apk install, no assets needed.

Where Winds Meet - Google Play Store:

Most people probably know of this game, Android version of this popular PC quasi-MMO. Runs well on the RP5 and 6. Takes up a lot of storage space. Very nice game for ADHDers like me that want a lot of different tasks to do. If you haven't tried it yet check it out, it's completely free. Just has a lot of menus that try to rope you into eventually buying cosmetics. Very fun though, looks great.

MegaZeux aka MZX - AliceLR GitHub:

This is a deep cut.

MegaZeux is a game creation system (GCS) created by Janson in 1994 for MS-DOS. Heavily inspired by Epic Games' ZZT. If you like things like PICO-8, you will probably like MegaZeux.

There are thousands of games (called worlds) created for MegaZeux. The biggest archive of them on the web is on DigitalMZX, I would start there for information about this. If you want to create your own games with MZX you can download the original release for PC.

The app can access your sd card or wherever, so make a folder for games (worlds) and start collecting and playing.

Controls are mapped already, and these games pop on the OLED screen.

Happy gaming!

Who puts out all the promo signage for Thursdays at your store?

For those that don't know it's the packs of red/white signs etc. when stuff goes on sale that come in weekly.

So recomps of N64 games have been coming out at a pretty fast pace this year, someone even made a launcher for them on PC. As of now the launcher and most of the recomps are PC only.

What is a N64 recomp? In short they are N64 games that have been recompiled to run natively on PC hardware. Thanks to PC translation layers we can also run these on Android devices. This allows for fun things like native widescreen support, increased FPS, upscaling, mods, anti-aliasing, and much more. It's far more accurate than current N64 emulation, runs faster, smoother.

The recomps all run very well under GameHub Lite, they should work under GameNative and Winlator as well. The launcher itself does not, but is used on the PC to download and update the recomps. Think of it as Obtanium but for N64 recomps.

The launcher does not contain any copyrighted material nor do the recomps, you must supply your own rom files for the recomps to run.

Setup:

Step 1, on your PC download N64 Recomp Launcher: https://github.com/SirDiabo/N64RecompLauncher

Step 2, unzip the launcher and run it.

Step 3, goto settings within the launcher, and check 'Portable Mode', also check 'Show Experimental Games' to show all the games available currently.

Step 4, download each game you want, make sure to download the Windows version.

Step 5, optional, navigate to your N64RecompLauncher folder, and within it open the 'RecompiledGames' folder. This is where each game is stored, I recommend placing an unzipped copy of each rom file in the folders for their respective games. If you need to save file space you can just point each recomp to your existing rom files on your device instead.

Step 5b, for Space Station Silicon Valley the UI won't allow you to select your rom file when running under Android. Instead run it first on your PC, select the rom file, then close. This is why portable mode is handy, all your settings will save and transfer over.

Step 6, navigate to your N64RecompLauncher folder, and within it open the 'RecompiledGames' folder. Select all the folders within and compress them into a .zip or .rar, whatever you like to use.

Step 7, transfer the newly created archive to your device, and unzip wherever you store your PC games. I have a folder on my SD card titled PC. So everything is contained within sd card/PC/RecompiledGames/ with a sub-folder for each game. So when something needs updated I can just copy over the new files from my PC and keep the same folder structure.

Step 8, in GameHub Lite use the 'Import PC games' button to add each game. If you are using GameNative it's the + sign to 'Add Custom Game'.

You can also create shortcuts for each game with GameHub Lite or GameNative, or even Export for frontend support.

Step 9, settings, these are my GameHub Lite settings, should be fine using equivalent settings for GameNative or Winlator. I am running on the Retroid Pocket 6. These settings should also work on the RP5 and Flip 2. For each game I have been using the same settings:

Game Resolution: 1920 x 1080

Compatibility Layer: proton10.0-arm64x-2

Translation Params: Extreme

GPU Driver: Turnip_v26.1.0_R4

DXVK Version: dxvk-v2.7.1.1-async

VKD3D Version: vkd3d-proton-3.0b

CPU Translator: Fex-20260103

Anything not listed is the default.

Step 10, launch game. Should launch fine after all settings are selected. After the game launches hit 'select rom' and select your rom file. You will have to access the 'F:' drive (most likely) and then navigate to where you placed the rom file for that game. For Space Station Silicon Valley you will have to select the rom on your PC first before copying to device.

Step 11, GameHub Lite specific settings, open the slide out menu by pressing the back button. I find these games run smoother with 'Native Rendering+' set to Force Enable. I also set Enable Frame Limit to 120.

Step 12, in-game settings, either open Settings on the main menu of the game, or press the square button to open the overlay. Navigate to Graphics:

Resolution: Original 2x

Downsampling Quality: 2x

Aspect Ratio: Expand

Window Mode: Fullscreen

Framerate: Display

MS Anti-Aliasing: 4x

If desired you may change these to your preference.

HUD Placement: Original

Currently only Original works, the other ones sound nice but they are hiding the HUD from the games. Hopefully fixed eventually.

Testing:

Controls are all setup out of the box, but can rebind as needed. All look and run smooth, especially with uncapped FPS. Bomberman Hero for instance runs fantastic compared to original hardware. There's still a chance for bugs here and there, but they can be reported and fixed quickly through GitHub. Far less bugs than emulation. I have played one super buggy recomp for Super Smash Bros. but it's not part of this launcher.

Games tested and shown: Bomberman 64, Space Station Silicon Valley, Bomberman Hero, Banjo-Kazooie, Quest 64, Megaman 64.

Game tested and not shown: Duke Nukem: Zero Hour. Unfortunately has a bug, won't go widescreen and no matter the aspect ratio is always showing some glitchy stuff around the screen.

Games supported but not tested due to existing Android ports. I try to run native Android ports where I can: Star Fox 64, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64.

Games supported but not tested by me: Goemon, Dr. Mario 64, Dinosaur Planet, Chameleon Twist.

More games are being added, just keep checking the launcher for updates on your PC.

Streets of Rage 4 is currently free on Epic Games Store on your device. Looks great and controls out of the box.

Don't sleep on their free offerings! I check the app almost every day for new drops.

Last year around this time they had KOTOR 1 + 2 for free. I've also gotten Dead Cells, and Double Dragon Trilogy, and a bunch of other games of questionable quality, but once in a while there are bangers.

They update the selection every couple weeks it seems, after you've installed them you can always delete and redownload later.

That's right, if you haven't heard the news yet. The old SNES emulator from back in the day, ZSNES, has been updated and is available for Android. It's 2.99 in the Play Store. Decided to give it a try on the RP6, should work great on the rest of the devices.

Works and controls straight out of the box, just point to your roms folder. There is a default folder that it recommends but I was able to point it to my SD card just fine. Can leave roms zipped. Does take some time to load your folder if you have a lot of roms.

Also need to set auto hide for the on screen controls in the settings. It supports touch and controller in the menu, and can use touch to fast forward, save, etc. or set binds.

I love that they retained the classic snow falling effect for the gui.

Also supports enhancements for 7 games currently, more are coming but they have to be implemented manually by the devs.

The enhancements include high res support, texture mapping, overclocking, wide screen, uncompressed audio, and 3D. These each can be toggled on or off.

The games that can be enhanced will have a star next to them in the game list, but they currently include: F-Zero, Gradius 3, Mega Man X, Super Castlevania 4, Super Ghouls and Ghosts, Super Mario World, and Metroid.

My pics shown are all enhanced games except for Chrono Trigger currently.

The widescreen support is interesting, some games it actually shows you more of the play field, while others like Gradius will render more of the background but game objects still pop in at their old position.

Overall I'm very impressed with it and will probably use it from here on out.
