I didn’t know I made a perch!

I’ve had these feeders up a long time and I’ve never seen a bird perch right up at the top on the little extra bit of wire, apparently I inadvertently made a perch! It was hard to get a good photo on my phone, pic#2 you can see the lil fella better.

Edit to say thx for the award!

Did anyone stop receiving products for about a year?

I used to get stuff from bzzz agent all the time but for about a year, I didn’t even get an invitation to apply to a campaign. I actually logged in at one point to make sure that they were still operating. Has it been like this for anybody else? Did you guys stop getting offers for the past year or so? I know at one point around Christmas I got a body wash in the mail and it didn’t come with a card or anything saying where it came from and I never got an email to review it. I started to wonder if maybe it was from bzzz agent, and I got dinged for not reviewing it or something?

I FINALLY started getting offers again a couple of months ago but I’ve only been invited to 3 campaigns since then. I just reviewed my cereal!

High cholesterol

20 years ago I decided to lose weight. I was 4’ 11” and over 200lbs, lost 100lbs over the course of probably 5 years (it was s long time ago lol not sure how long it took). Since then my weight has fluctuated and I found that my body stopped resisting around 125lbs so I made staying 125 my goal. I’ve gotten up to 140 since then and managed to bring it back down to 125, now that I’m 40 I’m finding it easier to stay at 130.

All this to say I spent all these years worried about calories and eating my veggies and fruits and I just went to the doctor for bloodwork and found out I have high cholesterol. It never even occurred to me to worry about cholesterol! Now I’m wondering if this is a common issue in people that are trying to lose or maintain a certain weight? I don’t even know where to start. Maybe it’s just my age?

I have OCD so it’s been messing with me hard. I did go through a bout of depression recently and I had stopped cooking as much and Ive been eating more sweets, but still watching calories and maintaining my weight. Now I gotta worry about saturated fats I guess, one more thing on labels to pay attention too, ugh.

How often to water?

I just got these Restrepia from Andys Orchids, how often should I water them? I’m thinking daily or maybe every other day? They should stay moist constantly right? Also unsure if I should be using my squirt bottle or just dunking the bottom in water?

What is the little guy?

I got this for free from Andy’s orchids! Is that a common thing? Also, I’m wondering what the little guy on top is. Is it an orchid or just a random plant?

Edit to ask is that live moss on it? How can I get it to grow on my other plants?

Second edit the main plant here is Restrepia mayana, it’s the little hitchhiker on the top corner that I was curious about. I didn’t know if it could be an orchid, consensus is that it is, yay!

Andys orchids

I placed an order from Andys orchids and I still haven’t received a confirmation email or anything is that normal? When I placed the order it said that it would ship today so I assumed I would get some kind of email today, but I still haven’t received anything. Every time I’ve ever placed an online order anywhere I’ve always gotten a confirmation email after. I thought about emailing them to see if they got my order, but I wouldn’t even know what information to give because I didn’t receive any kind of confirmation.

I apologize if this is a stupid question I’ve just never ordered from them before. Also, if anyone knows how frequently they ship, that would be helpful.

Thank you!

Edit: they replied to my email before I could call saying for some reason the order was incomplete on their end even though all of the information was correctly filled out and the payment was made. They said it was an issue with their website so I’m glad I reached out to them! Unfortunately my order won’t ship until next week now, but they did ask if that was ok which I appreciate! As excited as I am for my plants I don’t want to create a hassle for them. Thank you to everyone here that encouraged me to reach out to them!

Where do you guys buy your minis?

I waited 3 weeks for a restrepia howei purchased on Etsy and the seller just canceled the order, I’m pissed. When I messaged them asking why, they say now they found one and they can relist it for me, but I’m highly suspicious at this point. Where do you guys buy your minis? I usually buy most of my plants from Etsy because I know at least there I won’t get scammed or burned, if the plant is in bad shape I’ll get a refund.

Finally going to get some blooms that aren’t hidden!

She keeps blooming from weird spots where it’s hard to see the flowers, but I finally got some coming from up top! I didn’t realize how frequently they bloom once they mature! It seems like every time a branch snaps she decides to push out flowers!

Do hummingbirds help with pest control?

So this is probably a stupid question but I’ve been curious, hummingbirds eat bugs, does that mean having hummingbirds in your garden will reduce the amount of pests that you have? I looked it up and according to what I read they eat aphids, idk why I always assumed they just ate flies and spiders, probably read it somewhere.

I’ve seen the hummies near me flying around bushes like they were eating bugs but I have so many freakin white flies & aphids attacking my plants, and I only ever see them go for nectar from the flowers.

Have any of you seen hummies eating bugs off of your plants?

Not enough light?

I just moved my haraella retrocalla into this cabinet yesterday and it wasn’t until this morning that it occurred to me that it’s probably not enough light! I moved it for higher humidity and lower temperatures previously it was in my milsibo tall the temperatures are in the high 70s and the humidity usually is in the low 60s, I was mostly worried that in the summer that cabinet will get into the 80s typically around 85 when it’s really hot and I thought it might be to warm?

I’m also getting a Restrepia howei and from what I’ve read, they like much higher humidity and lower light, would this cabinet be enough light for it? The humidity in this small one is in the 80’s and temps are in the low 70’s and shouldn’t get as hot in summer because the light is outside of the cabinet.

Sorry I’m new to these minis and so afraid to kill them as they were more expensive than most of my other plants, appreciate any advice!

I have the best boss ever

My boss purchased this little terrarium for me to bring to work! It’s at home right now so I can get the plants setup. I already had these cuttings started in moss so I threw them in the terrarium but I really want some macodes petola and maybe some moss In there, maybe a mini orchid instead? I have so many ideas!

Finally all setup!

Fingers crossed that they’re happy in there! And now I have more room for new plants in my big cabinet! I’m open to suggestions if anyone thinks I should have done something differently. I have some baby anthurium in there just for the extra humidity and a couple of rehab plants.

Live Moss

Many of you mentioned that I should use live moss in my last post. I was curious what kind of moss you guys use and where you get it? When I was watering today, I have some moss outside on my plants is any moss appropriate or do I need a certain kind? Last time I tried to grow moss I failed, but I’ll admit I wasn’t taking very good care of it.

I’ve also read that if you want to bring moss from somewhere else that you can mix it up in a blender and then pour it on what you want it to grow on, has any one done this? I was able to look up some pictures today and I think that the moss would look really good!

Thank you in advance for any help and thank all of you who mentioned to me that I should use live moss, I really appreciate it

It’s taking FOREVER

Little flower is taking forever to open! Also, I’m a little bit worried about the algae. I was dunking it in water and the algae developed so I stopped doing that hopefully, it’s not harmful?

Is this light too far away?

I just got this little greenhouse for $5 yesterday and I struggled to find a place for it in my tiny apartment especially a place where I could rig a light up. Initially I planned on using a desk lamp with grow bulb but there’s no room on this table for the lamp so I attached a barinna T5 to my TV lol. I had to face it away towards the wall a bit so it wouldn’t blind me so it’s not facing directly face down and it’s about 22 inch inches from the plants themselves. I was thinking, maybe I should go to the store today and get some small chain so that the height of the light could be adjustable. I kind of think it’s too far, but I also read that jewels only need enough light to read a book. I would love to hear your opinions!

$5 market place find!

I have never seen these listed so cheap and it was right down the street from my house, made my day!

Is it possible that if she had pests they could be inside? I sprayed it with rubbing alcohol, Windex and rinsed in the shower. That should be fine right?

Does anyone have any tips on how to put the light in? I have a magnetic light that goes well inside, but then I can’t close the lid.

Frequent bloomers

I recently discovered mini/micro sized orchids and got a haraella retrocalla because I read that they bloom frequently. What other mini orchids bloom frequently? I would prefer something that blooms more than once a year and has some color.

Thank you in advance for any advice!
