Ok so the weirdest thing but I literally feel so sick when I smell handsoap and alcohol wipes. It makes me instantly nauseated. I’m wondering if it’s due to the shot. I’ve been on this for over a year though and it wasn’t initially an issue even on the highest dose I’ve never experienced it before.

Has anyone else had a similar experience or does anyone have any tips or suggestions. I know I haven’t been eating great so not sure if this is also causing it but please help

Hi there long story short I started on sema. Lost about 35 pounds before I stalled on the highest dose then switched to tirz. Lost another 15 so I’m down 50 total in about 2 years which I’m very thrilled about (not complaining at all) however I’m on 15 of tirz and I’m still in the obese category. I have about 30 more pounds I’d love to lose but I haven’t lost anything in months. What do I do from here. I am still taking it weekly as I don’t want to gain back but I see others that are losing so much more. Is this it for me

Hey so I just this morning got a new foster dog. He’s 10 year old chihuahua/ terrier mix. I was told he was good with dogs. However when we brought him home he was growling at my dogs. We set him up in a gated area off our living space but he was still growling at everyone (including us) so I put a blanket to cover the gate. My one dog instigates and barks at him but he seems to not like us (me and my hisband) or my dogs. I’m worried because I have young kids too lol. How long do I keep him separated?

I’m in the process of becoming a foster and I’m excited, but I also want to make sure I’m doing what’s best for my resident dog.

I have a 13-year-old small dog who has some age-related health issues, and his comfort and well-being are my top priority. He’s generally done well with other dogs in the past, including a few short-term foster situations, but this would be my first time fostering through a rescue on a more regular basis.

I’m trying to learn more about how people handle the quarantine/decompression period when bringing a foster dog home. How do you set it up in your house? Do you keep the dogs completely separated at first? If so, for how long? Do you do separate rooms, baby gates, crate rotation, etc.?

I’d also love to hear from anyone who fosters while having a senior dog at home. What worked well for you? What challenges did you run into? Is there anything you wish you had known before you started?

My goal is to help dogs in need while making sure my senior guy stays comfortable, safe, and not overly stressed.

I’ve applied with a bunch of rescues and am excited to get fostering. I know I’m a little selective in saying I want a small dog but how long would I expect it to take for them to get back to me and offer me a foster dog? I hate seeing so many in need and feeling like I want to help but I’m stuck waiting when I have my home ready lol. Anyone else experience this? Do you work with multiple rescues or just one? I’ve applied to a bunch but none have actually done worked out yet so I hope they don’t all come in at once. Some I applied weeks ago I just don’t know how long to wait so I applied to more 😆

i there I found a dog I absolutely fell in love with (2.5 year old Shih Tzu). I adopted my current Shih Tzu around 10 months ago and I’m guessing he is around 2 also. I also have a 13 year old Maltese. My Maltese keeps to himself but is struggling with some health issues that make me believe he may be in his final year. My question is would you foster to adopt this new dog. I thought she would do well with my 2 year old Shih and they would leave my old boy alone. My 2 year old Tzu is super sweet and loves to play. But I don’t want to something unfair to my senior boy. Has anyone been through something similar? I planned to do the foster to adopt route this way I’d only adopt her if they all fit really well together but idk if I should even go through with it

My sweet boy is a 13 year old Maltese who was diagnosed with mitral valve regurgitation and an enlarged heart about 4 years ago. He’s been managed on pimobendan and enalapril and did really well for a long time. He also has tracheal collapse in both his neck and chest.

About a week ago his coughing got significantly worse and his hydrocodone stopped helping. We went to the vet and they found a questionable area on his lungs that could be fluid but the vet was unsure. They put him on a 3 day trial of dirux. But honestly things have gotten worse, not better. He’s coughing relentlessly at night and can’t sleep. He’s started biting hard — which is completely out of character — and I have two young daughters and another dog at home. His resting respiratory rate is still 18-20 and his gums are pink, but he is clearly exhausted.

Has anyone else been through end stage heart disease or tracheal collapse with their dog? How did you know it was time? Did you use an at home service and how was that experience? I just want to make sure I’m doing right by him and that he goes peacefully.

He has been the most loving little guy for 13 years and I just want his last moments to be filled with love and comfort at home.

Can anyone explain how they separate their resident dog(s) from their foster? Do you do a separate room or area of the house? We did do this with our puppy fosters as they were crated and had a pen but I’m unsure how to go about this with an adult dog. Are your dogs curious or just leave the foster alone and visa versa

I have a vet appointment tomorrow and I’m trying to get some honest perspective from people who’ve been through this.
My 13-year-old Maltese has advanced mitral valve disease and a worsening “honking” cough that’s no longer controlled with hydrocodone.
Right now:
~20+ coughing episodes a day
Episodes can last 1–2 minutes
Today he had about 4 episodes in under an hour while just resting
Cough is worse when lying down
Still eating, alert, and acting like himself between episodes
Resting breathing rate is still normal (~18)
He’s on Vetmedin already, and we’re basically at a point where meds aren’t controlling the cough anymore.

I guess I’m trying to understand:
If your dog had similar symptoms (heart disease + honking cough not responding to hydrocodone), what was the cause?
Did anything actually help at that stage (butorphanol, steroids, etc.)?
When meds stopped working, was there still meaningful improvement possible?
How did you know when it was time to start thinking about end-of-life decisions?

I’m not looking for false hope — just real experiences so I know what to expect going into tomorrow.

I recently started fostering only a few months ago. Now I’m facing a heartbreaking situation. My senior best boy (13) is in hospice care and may have only weeks left. I have another younger dog as well who is around 2. Now I have all these rescues needing fosters and I felt like fostering was my calling and passion but I don’t know how to navigate this inevitable loss that I’m facing and how I can ever open my heart again. I don’t know what the point of this post is but I’m hoping maybe someone else has experienced similar and could share their experiences and journey and maybe some recommendations. I am a person that feels guilt hard. And I know whatever I do I will be left with guilt and pain

Hi there. My daughter is 6 years old. She’s in kindergarten, she’s in a public school. She loved school for the majority of the year but now, with in the past week or 2 she’s not wanted to go to school. It’s gotten so bad that she’s been crying, saying she doesn’t feel good, and that she just wants to be with me (mommy) all day. She hasn’t even went to school all week. She’s asking to be homeschooled. Idk if this is a normal stage or something but she will not say that anything happened or if something went wrong in school. I’m at a loss and don’t know what to do. Has anyone else experienced similar? My heart breaks for her. I just want to do what is best. I do work full time from home. I just would appreciate thoughts from others who may have gone through this..

Hey all. I’ve just started fostering I’ve done 2 dogs so far and I’m loving it. Only thing is I want to be selective with the type of dog as I have 2 dogs of my own and prefer a certain type of dog (adult/ senior, calm, small etc). Is this possible to request a specific dog or do you just take what is offered to you? I hate to be too picky but I want my own dogs to be comfortable and my children. If any one has any advice let me know. Also do you foster through more than one organization? I’ve applied to a few but don’t want to take in more than 1 dog at a time. Any advice for a newbie is greatly appreciated
