The grass isn’t always greener

Been renting a Peugeot 2008 for the last week and I just thought I’d share with you how lucky I think we should feel as compared to those who bought a Peugeot.

Responsiveness. You think our AAOS is bad? Drive a Peugeot. It’s pathetically bad.

Cameras. After a week, I still can’t figure out how to activate them other than when going in reverse. Cameras are vital for parking in France as people park absurdly close to each other. With our Volvo. One button access.

Cruise control. The team at Stellantis who designed this should not be fired. They should be put before a firing squad. Can’t resume speed. Setting the speed may get you there. It may get you over. Bonne chance

This is not about how a Peugeot drives vs a Volvo. One is premium. The other is Stellantis. This is about how they leverage software.

I will absolutely never buy a Stellantis vehicle. Pure garbage.

Era 100 SL - problems with Bluetooth Idle

Hello everyone. I just got a pair of Era 100 SL for my computer. Might be slight overkill, but when you spend a ton of time in front of the computer, it's great to listen to high quality music.

One problem I have though, is that the Bluetooth Idle Auto-Disconnect refuses to work. I can set it, but the app/speakers will not keep the setting. I've tried all the obvious stuff, such as rebooting the speakers and tring to having it stick, un-pairing and repairing them, replacing the bluetooth connection....cursing at it has also had no positive effect.

Before I wait on hold for lord knows how long with tech support, does the community have any suggestions I should try?

Cost of living une vie aisée

Hi All - I know this question gets asked a million different ways, but I'm curious to understand more about real-world experiences and not the cost of living calculators you can find online (I have looked at many).

I'm curious what the monthly cost of living a very comfortable life (une vie aisée) for two retired people would be in the south - probably in le Var. Yes, "aisée" means different things to different people. I'm not talking about shopping sprees au Faubourg St Honoré....just being able to live a very comfortable life. Some data points to clarify what I mean would include:

  • Cost not including housing
  • Restaurants once or twice a week - not Michelin, but still nice.
  • Car - one, at the level of a BMW X3
  • Mutuelle (of course)
  • Travel - maybe six times a year, mostly across Europe in fine hotels (not the Ritz, but you get the point)

Can I do this on 5000 euros per month, or do I need to budget more?

Thank you in advance.

PS: Please no trolling. I fully appreciate that 5000 euros a month is a very significant sum, but I live in a part of the world where that gets you very little. Thank you.

325 kWh/100 miles energy consumption

This is the figure I saw this morning when I started my drive in our 2023 XC40 Recharge (aka EX40). It eventually went back down to normal - around 28-33 kWh/100 miles. The car is kept in a garage that was at 75F and gets driven daily. I've noticed the power consumption numbers starting higher than usual recently - say 45-65 kWh - but certainly never this high.

Any thoughts?

USAA won't let me reduce my homeowner's coverage

My home is insured by PURE, with USAA as the broker (USAA won't cover my home directly due to their self-imposed limitations on property values.) I recently saw that they are insuring a complete rebuild of my house at ~30% more than my property is worth on the market (including the land).

I've tried explaining to them that this makes absolutely zero sense, but they keep insisting that it's due to labor costs, etc. I'm trying to get them to send an inspector over to my home so they can actually see that the rebuild cost is nowhere near what they have estimated, but it's been almost a month and no word from them.

Is my only recourse to just walk away from PURE/USAA?

Thank you.

I'm looking at the US online configurator and can't tell the difference between these two interiors and their seats if I select the M Sport option. Can anyone here explain that to me?

We're planning on ordering an iX3 this coming week in the US. I'm torn as to whether we should buy it or lease it. The car will be driven less than 10,000 miles per year (probably around 8,000), which would make it better to buy it, but on the flip side, I'm concerned about the massive depreciation of EVs. I'm also concerned about repair costs once the warranty expires.

Thoughts?
