Success stories for borderline people

Share your success stories if you had borderline high results (calcium, PTH, ionized calcium) and surgery and had symptoms resolve.

My symptoms: very low back pain likely related to the osteopenia in lower back, EXTREME fatigue, low mood.

Hyperkinesia removal success stories

Post your success story if you had hyperkinesia and removal!

My story. 97% EF, symptomatic for 3 years in waves, when it’s fine it’s fine, when it’s not, it’s not. RUQ ache, feeling full, belching, indigestion, heartburn. Flares with alcohol. Normal imaging besides trace amount of sludge one time. They believe I have symptomatic hyperkinesia, scheduled for surgery in July.

Exhausted. Lab thoughts?

I have been experiencing debilitating fatigue since March. I had slightly elevated calcium at a recent appointment (10.9) and my dr ordered ionized calcium and PTH. Both values were on the cusp of being high. I have joint pain, muscle aches, back and hip aches. Occasional headaches. Unrelenting fatigue. Everything else has come back normal, except potential fatty liver by ultrasound but normal liver enzymes. My kidney function seems normal by lab work. Normal vitamin d. Did anyone else find out this way?

Lowish ferritin + symptomatic

I have had a few months of severe fatigue. Shortness of breath, brain fog, weakness, headache. I had to push for ferritin testing and it was 20. The normal range was 13, but I’ve seen it’s possible to have symptoms at this level.

What’s odd is my rbc is slightly high, hgb and hct are borderline high. I’ve not had additional iron studies drawn.

If my RBCs are high, how can I have low ferritin? Has anyone else experienced this?

Gallbladder issues - hyperkinesia

My (suspected, awaiting biopsy) PBC was discovered incidentally during a work up for ongoing fatigue and RUQ pain. The GI and surgeon are encouraging me to remove my gallbladder. My HIDA scan showed hyperkinesia (97% EF), ultrasound normal, they said maybe trace sludge on one of them. Has this happened to anyone?

Tw: TTC + having kids. Grappling w diagnosis.

I am headed to biopsy after a few months of fatigue and confusing lab picture. I initially was low positive for AMA m2, but ALP, liver enzymes, ggt, igm, bile acids all normal. Repeat Ama m2 was negative, but I read here that this happens. Slight signs of liver disease by ultrasound. My GI insists on bx in order to get ahead on damage even if it’s preclinical or early stage. I have developed an itch or tingling within the last week. Edit: hepatologist repeated the AMA M2 two weeks after the first, and ordered sp100, gp210, all negative.

That being said, I know many have been dx postpartum, but I’m wondering if anyone has had a baby after diagnosis and how that went for you. I have a 2 year old and want another so bad so this is pretty devastating to me.

Although I appreciate things could be worse, I am upset about it all and the possibilities. I’m terrified to die early and leave my son without a mom, I don’t want him to have a chronically ill mom who can’t go to soccer practice or school plays. Can anyone else relate?

Bounced around doc to doc - what to do?

Hi! I am a 32 yo female, healthy BMI. I had my son two years ago and never felt “recovered” from pregnancy, post-partum, breastfeeding. I have celiac disease. 6 years ago, I started seeing a PCP to just establish care. Bloodwork showed mildly elevated bilirubin, it was still there upon repeat and most times it is around 1.0. Said it could be Gilbert’s or my normal. I started to have dull RUQ pain 3 years ago and they said it’s my gallbladder but never was the typical symptoms. I’ve had colonoscopies, endoscopies, HIDA scan (97% EF), ultrasounds. Have night sweats about 4 times a month, and had a few episodes of itching.

In February of this year, I started getting super intense fatigue in the middle of the day lasting through the evening. I had a few stints of joint pain. Went to primary care a few times and only bilirubin slightly abnormal, I did notice my rbc hct and hgb are normal but very high end normal.

My pcp tested everything - cbc, b27, cmp, ferritin (20), myositis panel, ANA, CEA, ca-125, ca199, afp, sed rate, crp, bile acids, igm, ggt, tsh, tpo- ALL NORMAL. Probably missing some here, but all were normal. Fasting glucose is 95, and I suspect I may have insulin resistance from a sedentary job and little exercise. I have dark thick skin on my knees and ankles.

AMA m2 abnormal. AMA was 36 (upper limit 25) I spiraled thinking my life was over and was sent to hepatology 2 weeks later for suspicion of PBC.
Liver doc not concerned due to normal LFT, repeated AMA, sp100, gp210 - all negative. They said my calcium was slightly high. Sent back to PCP. (Of note, got the AMA test 3 days after the HIDA scan, unsure if the tracer can affect this?)

Went to surgeons for gallbladder per PCP and they ordered an additional ultrasound, no gallbladder findings but slightly increased echogenecity of liver, suggestive of diffuse liver disease like fatty liver. I’ve had several ultrasound over last 3 years - all normal. I have had itching again. My fatigue has improved with iron supplementation but is that bad to do if my rbc, hct, hgb are all borderline?

I don’t know what to do, it’s a lot and I feel crazy. I was not expecting that ultrasound result. Any advice or insight?

Hi!

I've had celiac for as long as I can remember, but diagnosed officially in 2017. Since going gluten-free, I've had intermittent issues but colonoscopy/endoscopy show no signs of active disease, and I adhere to a strict diet.

Recently, my PCP ordered a plethora of tests due to ongoing fatigue. My LFT's are normal, but my AMA (Anti-Mitochondrial Antibody) was positive (36, upper limit is 25). Has anyone else had a positive AMA either coincidentally and/or no liver disease? I have to see a Hepatologist for the risk of PBC.
