Grocery store cashier enforced the express checkout item limit and it was so refreshing

I ran into Food Lion on my lunch break to grab some quick grub. It was pretty busy, but there were 3 full service registers open and 1 express “12 items or less” register. The full service registers were pretty backed up with several people with full carts and the express register had a couple people with a handful of items.

I only had 4 things, so I start heading to the express checkout. As I’m making my way over, I see a lady pushing a nearly overflowing cart towards the registers. She was ahead of me and I saw her pause, look at the full service register lines and how busy they were.

Then I saw her look at the express lane. She saw only a couple people in it with a few groceries. I watched her look up and read the “express 12 items or less” sign before she looks back over at full service. I could practically see when she made the judgement call, and she headed over to the express lane.

By this time, she and I are almost getting there at the same time, so she speeds up and maneuvers her cart in a way that cuts me off and she basically “butts” in front of me with her full-ass cart.

The cashier was helping a customer check out, so the lady already started unloading several of her groceries before the cashier noticed her cart. She told the lady it was an express lane with 12 or fewer items, but the lady ignored her and said the other lanes are too busy so she came over because there’s hardly anyone here. Meanwhile I’m standing behind her holding my 4 items.

The cashier wasnt having it. She sees me behind the lady and flags me to come up so she can quickly check me out. I squeeze past the lady who is now huffing and puffing, and she muttered something like “I didn’t know it was the express lane and it’s not that serious.” (That’s a lie, I saw her read the sign and go for it anyway).

Meanwhile another person with only 1 item lines up behind the lady with the full cart. The cashier waves him up to check out in front of her too, and the lady got more huffy and started muttering that she’s being treated unfairly lol.

After him there was a lull and the cashier did her best to check out the lady as fast as possible before anyone else came up. But it was nice to see the express lane being enforced like that. Most cases the cashiers don’t say anything when someone with a full cart comes thru an express lane (and I don’t blame them for that) but I appreciate the no-nonsense cashier not putting up with it and prioritizing people who are trying to quickly grab a couple items and go.

Crockpot on overnight?

I will usually leave my crockpot on low to cook while I’m away at work. But I’ve never thought about leaving it on overnight so food is ready for me in the morning.

Have you all left the crockpot on overnight on low to cook? Is it safe? Idk why I’m fine with leaving my crockpot on while I’m away at work but wary about it overnight.

Edit: thank you everyone! It went great except the smell woke me up a couple times and then I lost power midway through the night. It’ll finish cooking once I get power back!

Inexpensive and delicious dinner

I regularly make pasta with lemon and either tinned tuna, sardines, salmon. Easy, fast, inexpensive, delicious.

Sauté chopped onion, add tuna, sardines or salmon (with oil), lemon zest, lemon, minced garlic, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes. Wilt some fresh spinach for added greens if desired.

Once pasta is al dente, drain but reserve some pasta water. Add pasta to the tuna, mix, adjust seasonings to taste, add more lemon if desired. If pasta is too dry, add some pasta water. Top with Parmesan and enjoy with crusty bread.

Meal cost me maybe $3 and I have leftovers for lunch tomorrow :)

My Mediterranean-inspired salad, kinda

It’s a lazy, healthy, light dinner night. Canned sardines with garbanzo beans, fresh spinach leaves, arugula, carrot, cucumber, celery, artichoke hearts, red onion, scallion, avocado, Kalamata olives, fresh squeezed lemon juice, cracked pepper, olive oil, balsamic vinegar.

Kinda rough looking but it’s a medley of delicious, healthy ingredients, textures and flavors. Wish I had some feta cheese but it’s still good without :)

Are full size beds not considered an “adult” bed?

For some reason lately I’ve been hearing people talk about how they are getting rid of their full-size beds and buying queen or king beds to “move into adulthood and have an adult-size bed.”

Are full-size beds not considered an “adult” bed? I’m in my 30s and since it’s just me, a full size bed is just fine. But I’ve heard a few of my single friends (who live alone and don’t have partners) say they’re finally getting a queen/king bed since they’re adults.

This has made me a little self conscious with my full size bed. Do I come across as younger/immature with a full size bed? Most of my peers have at least a queen size now. I can’t afford to upgrade to a bigger bed right now but maybe I should start saving…

Replaced faulty crankshaft sensor with an aftermarket one. Is that OK?

Car was running rough and stalled frequently on me. Took it in and the shop replaced the crankshaft sensor with an aftermarket one from Advanced Auto. Will it be OK or should I take it back for an OEM? I read that OEM is best but I needed it fixed ASAP to have a car. 2013 Hyundai Elantra.

Felt so ugly by the pool today

I went out to chill by the pool in my apartment complex and instead of a nice relaxing time, it was filled with insecurities, self criticism and self consciousness.

There were several other people there and they were young and really beautiful. I'm in my late 30s, thin but with lots of cellulite and flabby stomach, flat chested, and posture issues (from scoliosis), and a weird face with giant nose. The others at the pool were young, in their 20s-early 30s, vibrant gorgeous energetic happy people--the women had perfect hourglass or athletic figures and the guys all were buff and in shape.

Honestly it felt like I was at a photoshoot or something. I couldn't help compare myself to them (I know I shouldn't compare but it's hard not to)

So I spent maybe 20-30 minutes there before the self doubt got the best of me and I left. Didn't even dip my toes in the water because I was too self conscious to get out of my chair to walk to the pool edge. It looked really refreshing too.

Question about team calendars

My boss asked me to help figure out the best way to share schedules/calendars among the team and I’m drawing a blank.

We’re a team of about 25 people, work a hybrid remote/office schedule, and all need to know who has what going on (remote/office days, meetings, out in the field, PTO, etc).

Currently, everyone has their individual calendars on Outlook that they use. And then we have an big Word calendar document shared on Teams that everyone plugs in their stuff so it's all listed on one screen that everyone can see and access.

Staff are understandably irritated about the redundancy/duplicate work of inputting appts and whatnot on their Outlook calendars and then having to plug everything in the separate Word doc too.

What would be the best way to share our calendars for a team of 25 people? A shared/integrated Outlook calendar(?) was suggested but there are some downsides to this. (Not everyone needs to see every appointment. Like if someone has an appointment for some work being done on their house, but they are still available for meetings and calls, the appointment would have them as ‘busy/unavailable’ on the shared calendar)

What do you do in your office? Thanks for advice to help us modernize and simplify. We’re in the ‘dark ages’ of calendar management at my workplace.

Friend is well off and acting broke and it’s pissing me off. What should I do?

One of my good friends is a nurse and makes over $70k. She lives with her parents in a completely paid-off house, paid-off car and has 0 student loans. She has very few bills. She buys designer clothes and bags (has lots of coach, LV, etc), always gets the new iPhone as soon as it’s released, new MacBook, etc. But she complains that she’s broke.

She constantly talks about how she can’t afford a $5 item because she’s broke. She complains about groceries and gas increasing because she’s “can’t afford anything extra.” She’ll actually go to a food pantry place to get free food and household items because she “can’t afford groceries.”

Yet she goes on 2 vacations a year (first or business class tickets) and frequent shopping sprees.

She’s incredibly out of touch and it’s really frustrating hearing her complain to me, especially because I’m genuinely struggling. My rent is 60% of my income (I work a low paying job) and I have had to make the choice between paying for groceries or paying my internet bill, and I’ve gone to food pantries.

How do I handle this? What do I say to her to make her understand she isn’t broke and is very out of touch? It’s offensive.

Edit: No, she’s not in debt. She has a comfortable savings. She’s approaching 40.

Edit 2: everyone saying $70k isn’t a large salary. Ok, I agree in general. However she lives in a low cost of living area and has next to ZERO bills. She doesn’t pay for the usual adult stuff we do. So her salary (if she didn’t spend lavishly) makes her situation very comfortable. And since I make $42k before taxes and have all the usual adult bills, $70k without bills is well off to me. Doubt people will actually read this and understand nuances tho.

My neighbor is disabled and has mobility issues, so the leasing office assigned him a parking spot right in front of our apartment building entrance. It’s clearly labeled with a reserved sign and he has a permit for it so anyone else who parks there will get towed.

The issue is he isn’t parking there. Instead, he’s parking in another space a few spots down, which is also a good parking spot in front of the building (it’s not as nice as his reserved spot tho). He’s essentially taking up two decent parking spaces in a packed parking lot with limited parking/spaces to begin with, and there’s usually a resident circling to find parking and they have to drive farther away to park and walk a good bit.

No one can park in the reserved spot because they’ll get towed. Doesn’t seem fair that he’s taking up 2 parking spaces in a tight parking lot when he could park in his reserved space.

I want to say something to him but my neighbor said to leave it alone cause he has mobility issues and is older. She said he could be parking there for a reason we don’t know about and it could be temporary but it’s been going on 3 weeks now. AITAH for being upset about this and if I said something to him?

Edit: He got to choose the reserved parking space, leasing office didn’t pick for him. I ran into him one day (before it was officially reserved) and made small talk. During our chitchat, he mentioned he asked for that space to be reserved so he wouldn’t have to walk as far.
