1.6 TDI injectors

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Passat B7 1.6 TDI, and knowing these engines can have injector-related problems, I’ve been keeping an eye on the injector correction/deviation values.
The car currently has 210,000 km. Injectors 1 and 4 were replaced less than 2 years / ~20,000 km ago, so they are relatively new. However, I’m now concerned that injector 2, and possibly injector 3, may be starting to fail.

Symptoms

Sometimes, when starting the engine cold, it seems to misfire or have poor combustion for a few seconds. The RPM fluctuates slightly and then stabilizes. It’s not a severe misfire, but I can tell the engine isn’t running as smoothly as it should.
At warm idle, I also notice some vibration through the car. The engine sounds relatively normal, but I can feel that it isn’t completely smooth. When I switch the A/C on at idle, the engine note/behavior changes noticeably.

On the highway, however, the car runs very well. It has good power and is able to complete DPF regenerations normally.
My other concern is the DPF regeneration frequency. It seems to want to regenerate approximately every 50 km, which feels far too frequent. I’m wondering if poor combustion from one or more injectors is producing excessive soot and causing the DPF to load very quickly.

Looking at the injector deviation/correction values, injector 2 looks clearly suspicious to me, but I’m not sure how to interpret injector 3.

The VCDS logs were taken at cold idle, while the Car Scanner readings were taken with the engine hot, during or shortly after a DPF regeneration, so I understand the values may not be directly comparable.

For anyone familiar with the 1.6 TDI:
Does injector 2 look like it is failing? What about injector 3?

Would you replace injectors 2 and 3 at this point, or should I investigate something else first?

And could faulty injectors realistically explain the rough cold starts, vibration at idle, and DPF regenerations every ~50 km?

Thanks!

High pressure pump 1.6 tdi

Hi. Is it normal for the high-pressure fuel pump to make this noise while the car is regenerating the DPF, at idle?
It only makes this sound during DPF regeneration. During normal idle, when revving, or even at high RPM, it doesn’t make any noise.

Trying to adapt minimum deviation quantity 1.6 tdi

I’m trying to perform the injector quantity adaptation. I follow the correct procedure, and VCDS starts running the adaptation after I press the accelerator. However, the engine doesn’t rev up—it just stays at idle with the glow plug light on. VCDS shows the procedure as “Running.”

What can be? Engine at temperature. A/C and lights off. Tank around 1/4.

Dipstick 1.6 tdi cayc

Hi everyone,
Last week I replaced the timing belt kit along with the oil pump belt on my 1.6 TDI. To do this, the oil pan and oil pump pickup tube were both removed and thoroughly cleaned, meaning about 99% of the old oil was completely drained.
After reassembly, I initially filled it with 4.3L of fresh oil. After running the car to fill the new oil filter, the level dropped a bit as expected, so I topped it up until I got a reading at the MAX line.
However, checking it today, I noticed something odd:

Side 1 of the dipstick: Shows a perfect reading right at the MAX line.

Side 2 of the dipstick: Looks slightly higher, reading a bit above the MAX line.

Is this higher reading just oil residue being wiped off the inside of the dipstick tube when I pull it out, or could I have slightly overfilled it without realizing? Should I drain a small amount of oil to be safe, or is this completely fine to leave as is?
Thanks for your help!

1.6 TDI OIL PUMP BELT (alert)

Hi everyone. I recently bought a Passat B7 1.6 TDI CAYC with 209,000 km. There was no history of the timing belt kit ever being replaced, although the car had received regular maintenance every 10,000 km.
I bought a complete timing belt kit with a new water pump, and while doing the job, I was also advised to replace the oil pump belt. I’m very glad I did.
I was shocked by how bad the old oil pump belt was. The first time I tried to bend it after removing it, it simply snapped.
Keep in mind, this car had been regularly serviced throughout its life.
So, if you have a 1.6 TDI CAYC and don’t know when the oil pump belt was last replaced, be careful. Don’t wait, replace it. It’s a small part that can potentially save you from a much bigger problem.

1.6 TDI CAYC INJECTORS

Hi,
I bought a Volkswagen Passat B7 with the 1.6 TDI engine. Injectors #1 and #4 were replaced in 2024 and 2025, while injectors #2 and #3 are still the original factory ones.
Using an OBD scanner, I noticed that the injection correction values (deviation) for the two original injectors are quite high, while the newer injectors appear to be compensating. Am I interpreting this correctly?
At the moment, I don’t have any noticeable drivability issues. The engine idles steadily, but I can feel a slight vibration inside the cabin, which makes me wonder if it’s caused by imperfect fuel injection. There’s no loss of power, but I have noticed that the DPF seems to clog or require regeneration more frequently than expected.
The newer injectors have less than 20,000 km on them.
Would replacing injectors #2 and #3 with two brand-new VDO injectors likely solve the injection correction imbalance? Is it reasonable to expect that installing four injectors with similar wear would bring the correction values back within specification and reduce the vibration, or could there be another underlying cause?

1.6 tdi 2011 passat

Hi, what do you think of this timing belt? I recently bought the car and don’t have any service history showing that the timing belt kit was ever replaced. The previous owner had the car from 180,000 km to its current 209,000 km and never changed it. Does this look like the original belt from 2011?

Mercedes c250 TD 1997 overheating

Hi

I recently bought a C250 TD, and it had been running perfectly for several days with the engine temperature staying normal.
However, yesterday, as I was arriving home, the temperature suddenly shot up to 120°C. I turned the engine off within a minute to avoid causing any damage.
What makes this even stranger is that about 10 minutes earlier, I had stopped at a gas station to fill up with diesel. When I started the car again, I noticed the temperature gauge fluctuating wildly between 80°C and 95°C for a few seconds before it stabilized at the normal operating temperature.
I’m now trying to figure out what could have caused this. Has anyone experienced something similar or have any ideas what might be wrong?

Buying a VW Passat 1.6 TDI (2011) with 210k km – Is it a good deal despite the injector issues?

Hi everyone,
A relative of mine needs to sell his Passat 1.6 TDI (B7) due to financial difficulties. He is offering it to me at a very good price for the Portuguese market.
I know this engine has a reputation for the classic chronic injector failures.

However, this car has already had two injectors replaced with the updated, corrected version (the ones ending in "S" / Continental-VDO).

I am fully aware that the remaining two original injectors will likely fail sooner or later. My question is: once I eventually replace those other two with the updated "S" version, will the engine be completely reliable on that front? Or are all versions of these 1.6 TDI injectors inherently problematic?

Car details:
Mileage: 210,000 km
Maintenance: Excellent history. It has been serviced strictly on time, with the last 5 oil changes done every 5,000 km.

Should I go ahead and buy it, planning to replace the remaining two injectors when the time comes?

Thanks for your advice!

Also, do the sound looks fine?

[QC] Procuro carrinha familiar

Boas!
Estou à procura de uma carrinha familiar, a gasolina ou diesel, de preferência posterior a 2012 e com menos de 200.000 km.

Os modelos que mais me interessam são:
VW Passat Variant 1.6 TDI ou 2.0 TDI;
