My husky decided to stop sleeping inside once we bought her baby home

my husky was 6 when we bought our baby home. prior to this, husky had always slept in our bed. then when baby arrived he stopped sleeping in our room, and he even decided to stop sleeping inside in general, didn’t even go to the couch as he often did when he’s get too hot in the bed.

I don’t know why he has done this, I thought it was just an adjustment phase, but my son is almost 3 and my husky still won’t come inside at night. I’ve kept his routine unchanged, he still gets his morning walk (sometimes 2 walks) and all the pats and cuddles. I hope he’s not sad, he doesn’t seem it, but I don’t know why he doesn’t want to be with me overnight now. when I have friends/family stay, he often sleeps in the guest bedroom with them which is mind boggling.

huskies are very interested creatures so I’m wondering if anyone has experienced this and can help me better understand the cause

Organising under-sink cupboard

I keep all jars, containers, cleaning products under there but with the huge pipes that encroach on just about every open space it seems impossible keep this space organised. I end up just shoving things in there and then every time I open it cupboard it all slides out

A potentially dodgy encounter in Bali. Has anyone had this happen to them?

Has anyone ever had anything like this happen in Bali? I’ve thought about it a few times over the years and realised I still have no idea what actually happened.

This was in 2019 on my first trip to Bali. My partner had been heaps of times and had a tattoo place recommended by work friends, so I just trusted him and didn’t really question anything.

We booked tattoos and they took a huge deposit from me even though my tattoo was tiny. Weirdly, my partner was getting a much bigger tattoo and his deposit was smaller.

When we arrived, my partner noticed rats crawling around the parlour. I didn’t even see them. He pulled me aside and said we needed to leave, so we started thinking about how to get our deposits back.

A worker then came over and said they had to take us to a second location. There were heaps of empty stations where we already were, so that made no sense, but we stupidly went along with it.

We got into a big van with two men driving and another car with two men followed behind us. It was only about a four-minute drive, but we ended up at what looked like abandoned apartments. They took us into an empty apartment and I couldn’t see any tattoo equipment or anything that looked like a tattoo studio.

My partner basically said we needed to run.

We told them we were going to an ATM to get cash out, then ran and got into the closest GoJek.

They had our hotel details from the booking, so we changed hotels that same day.

At the time I was just relieved we got out, but looking back it makes me really uneasy. I have no idea what they were actually trying to do. I don’t know if it was some sort of scam, robbery, kidnapping or something more serious, and I’ve never really told the story properly because whenever I try, people just say “Bali is dodgy” and talk over me.

I’m not saying it was trafficking because I genuinely have no idea. I’m just curious whether anyone has experienced anything similar or recognises what this might have been.

What systems or ecosystems do you have in your life that keep you ahead and organised

I’m always looking for ways to make mum life run a little smoother, so I’d love to hear everyone else’s weirdly specific hacks.

I’ll go first.
•I clean the house before my kids go to their dad’s- I’ll deep clean, mop, do the bathrooms, dishes, toy tidy-up and laundry. It means when they’re gone, I’m not spending my precious kid-free time cleaning. I can actually do things that fill my cup. The toddlers get my toddlers involved in cleaning, they love “helping”, and I actually love teaching them that cleaning and looking after the house is just part of life. It also gets them away from screens, which we don’t really do anyway.

• We don’t use daycare so I use my limited babysitter time strategically (I have babysitters available for around 12 hours a week spread across 2 days, and because I have some autonomy over my work schedule, I’ll sometimes finish work 1–2 hours early and use that time to do groceries. I deliberately do grocery shopping without my kids. Partly because chasing toddlers who refuse to sit in a trolley while simultaneously trying to shop is incredibly overstimulating. I do Click & Collect for what I can, and use my babysitter time for the shopping that actually requires me to go into the store. I catch up on work after the kids are in bed.

• I keep my fridge and freezer stocked with homemade food.. not having food on the ready sends me into a spiral. I batch cook when I have the capacity and freeze things so Future Me has food when I absolutely do not have the capacity. I cook when the kids are with their dad because I genuinely enjoy it. Cooking is one of my cup-filling activities, so I’ll make things like soup, sourdough, pasta sauce, lasagna, baked goods etc.

Now give me yours!

HR in community allied health - is this normal

Is this normal?

I'm a community speech pathologist. Officially I'm just a Speech Pathologist, but all the complex referrals get allocated to me because they're considered too much for the newer clinicians. My manager and her manager both consider me "senior."

I asked why I'm not classified (or paid) as a Senior Speech Pathologist. My supervisor asked his supervisor as they both thought I was classified and remunerated accordingly. After following up again a month or so later, apparently HRs response was basically, "Not sure." I then asked what the criteria are to become senior... and nobody could answer that either.

Do other workplaces actually have clear promotion criteria, or is this a common way to get senior-level work without the title?

Toilet training your toddler when they live in different houses

Need advice for potty training a 2.5yo with multiple caregivers! My daughter is ready to drop nappies, but she splits her week between me, her dad every second weekend, and her nanna when I’m at work. She only feels comfortable/safe using the potty with me and becomes distressed if I tell her to use the potty at dads or Nannas. she requests nappies at their house. I don’t want her becoming distressed if she has an accident around them, so I have told them to just keep her in nappies while I use undies on my days (Thu–Mon exc. every second weekend).

With all these changes, she’s confused as heck-Every Thursday feels like a total reset because she's confused by the different rules. Its so hard to build a routine between these fast changing environments.

How do you successfully toilet train when you can't be there every day and the other homes aren't doing undies because the toddler is distressed about accidents in front of anyone other than me?

Thank you!

Toddler is being bullied for his chromogenic teeth staining - dentist said his teeth are excellent

my 3 year old has chromogenic teeth staining. the dentist said his teeth are in great shape even though they’re not visually appealing due to the harmless staining. the dentist recommends regular cleaning once he starts school or is able to tolerate the dentist cleans.

my child’s dad has had staining his whole life, so it’s genetic and not related to any medications etc.

it is heart breaking because the kids at kinder ask him why he has dirt on his teeth and he comes home crying asking why can’t his teeth be white like theirs.

I don’t know what to say, I said maybe we will find a special toothpaste and then he ran around the house crying asking where the special toothpaste was so he can brush all the dirt off.

im heartbroken.

I’ve tried oral probiotics, we brush 2x a day without fail, sometimes 3x a day. We don’t eat sugar or processed foods lots of fresh fruit, veg, meat, lots of water and no sugary drinks or juice.

he uses an electric toothbrush but maybe I need to brush harder.

my husband is able to remove his by scraping them off with a dental floss stick sharp edge but I’m hesitant to do that as it seems risky and invasive.

ther has to be a way to fix this, his self esteem is plummeting and there’s nothing I can do :(

AITA for deciding not to attend a close friend's wedding after she declined my milestone birthday?

A close friend declined my milestone birthday celebration because she'd rather attend another event that She’s attended several times in the past on that day. I'd sent the save-the-date several months in advance, and I felt hurt that my birthday wasn't a priority to her.

I didn't try to convince her to come. I simply told her I was disappointed and accepted that she'd made her choice.

Now she's invited me to her wedding and pre-wedding events. Attending would involve a lot more time, travel and expense for me than attending my birthday would have for her. I was willing to go, but since she is declined my birthday, im now thinking I will politely decline the larger events and suggest we catch up separately to celebrate after everything is over.

I'm not doing it to get revenge or make a point. It just changed how I view the friendship, it feels unbalanced and whilst I was initially happy to jump through hoops to attend her big events, I have now realised that I don't really want to make significant sacrifices for someone who wasn't willing to make a much smaller one for me.

AITA?

At what point do you stop replying to "Sorry I've been MIA, let's catch up" friends

I'm curious how other people handle friendships like this because I'm starting to wonder if I'm expecting too much.

I have a couple of friends who have this pattern:

"Sorry I've been MIA! We absolutely need to catch up!"

Then... nothing.

Or I organise something, get excited, my toddler gets excited because she's coming too, and then they cancel.

A few months later:

"Sorry I've been MIA! Let's catch up!"

Repeat.

One friend has basically ghosted me since January. To be fair, I was going through divorce and probably talked about it a lot. Looking back, maybe I wasn't the easiest person to be around because I was struggling, and perhaps I didn't ask enough about what was happening in her life.

But I also thought that's what friendship was. You show up when someone's life falls apart. You listen to the same story for the hundredth time if that's what they need. You support each other through the hard seasons.

Six months later she messaged saying she'd been going through her own stuff, apologised for being a bad friend and said we should catch up. The thing is... this isn't the first time she’s got hated and resurfaced. It's happened over and over.

Then there's another friend who I've always made the effort with. I go to her house every time—we've been friends for years and she's never actually come to mine. She didnt ancknwoledge my birthday wishes until a week later, apologised, threw a party and didn’t invite me, despite saying we should catch up, then recently messaged again with the classic "Sorry I've been MIA! Let's catch up!". it was almost instantly after I sent out to invites to my initmate birthday party which I didn’t invite her to because she’s set the precedent that we are not within each others intimate friendship circle…

At this point I'm exhausted by people who seem to enjoy the idea of staying friends more than actually being friends.

So what do you do?

  • Do you keep replying politely but stop making any effort?
  • Do you tell them honestly that you're hurt and don't want this cycle anymore?
  • Do you quietly let the friendship fade?
  • Or do you give people grace because everyone's busy and life gets in the way?

One of these friends I have no mutual friends with, so if that friendship ends, that's probably the end of it. The other shares mutual friends with me, so I'll inevitably see her at birthdays and other events.

I'm not angry anymore. I'm just at capacity with being a single mum, always showing up for my friends despite having no village, working, having a mortgage on my own, all the things.

I'd love to hear how other people have handled friendships that became incredibly one-sided. Is there a point where it's healthier to just let go? and how do you do it

Builders/Tradies - Is this normal drainage or should I be pushing my builder to fix it?

I'm hoping to get some opinions from builders, tradies or anyone who's dealt with new builds.

I've been in my house for about 18 months and every single time it rains, the front entry becomes absolutely saturated.

The driveway and the undercover porch seem to fall towards the front door, so water runs right up to the entrance instead of away from it. My front doormat is constantly soaked, and because the porch stays wet, anyone who leaves their shoes on the mat while they're inside comes back out to shoes full of water. It completely defeats the purpose of having an undercover entry.

I also sell quite a bit on Marketplace, so I often ask buyers to leave cash under the doormat if I'm not home. One buyer actually messaged me to say they lifted the mat and there was basically an entire worm colony living underneath because it never dries out.

I've walked around my estate after rain and I'd say 99% of the houses have at least one strip drain across the driveway or near the porch, even houses where the land clearly falls away from the home. Mine has none.

I've checked my contract drawings and looked through the NCC/Australian Standards as best I can, and I can't actually find anything saying a drain was required. So maybe technically they've complied? But practically it seems like terrible drainage.

The frustrating part is this isn't the only issue with the build. Since moving in I've also had things like:

  • cracks appearing throughout the walls after only 18 months
  • chipped and lifting hybrid flooring
  • a large garage slab crack that I was told is "normal"
  • unfinished paintwork
  • skirting boards that aren't level or are damaged
  • unfinished landscaping in the turnkey home which was identical to my neighbours house and was built at the same time but mine was unfinished
  • gaps where door jambs meet the flooring
  • birds somehow living inside the roof because there were gaps in the roof, and rats in the walls as there were no protections installed at the weep holes which again 99% of the houses have
  • water overflowing the front gutter during heavy rain and staining the rendered façade with mould/mildew
  • signs of water damage in the front veranda ceiling from pooling water

To make things worse, when I left a negative review after moving in, their customer service team hounded me until I changed it, so I'm honestly reluctant to deal with them again unless I have a strong case.

My question is:

Even if the plans didn't specifically require a drain, would you consider this acceptable workmanship? Or is water running towards the front door enough that I should be pushing the builder to rectify it?

I'd really appreciate opinions from people in the industry because I don't want to complain about something that's actually considered normal—but equally, it feels ridiculous that my "undercover" porch is unusable every time it rains.

At what point is it worth copping the CGT just to leave Spaceship

I've been investing through Spaceship for a few years (Voyager plus a few individual shares), and every tax season I'm reminded why I'm getting frustrated.

The biggest issue is the delay with tax reporting. Every year I'm waiting until around September/October for the tax information to be finalised, which means either:

  • waiting months to lodge my tax return, or
  • lodging without it and potentially amending later.

I know this isn't unique to Spaceship and some managed funds are the same, but it's becoming enough of an annoyance that I'm considering moving everything to a new platform.

The problem is Voyager can't be transferred, so I'd have to sell it and trigger CGT. The individual shares can likely be transferred, but the Voyager portfolio is the sticking point.

For those who've been in a similar situation:

  • Did you just bite the bullet and pay the CGT?
  • Was the convenience of getting off the platform worth it?
  • Or did you keep holding because the tax hit wasn't worth it?

I'm trying to work out where the tipping point is between avoiding a one-off CGT bill versus dealing with the ongoing frustration every tax season.
