I replaced all the seals with modern O-rings, rubber, and silicone seals, and rebuilt the clamping knob with epoxy and a steel washer. It works great now, no leaks!

Reuploading because I forgot to include a photo of the reassembled machine the first time 🤦‍♀️

Found my next project!

It’s a "Динамо" espresso maker, made in the Soviet Union in the 60’s. It mostly works, however the seals are not in good shape and it can’t build much pressure. Additionally, the basket for the grounds is pretty mangled and the knob is beginning to crack, making it difficult to tighten properly.

I’m going to try and get it all fixed up, I have a 220V power supply to run it ☺️

I’ve seen pictures of a matching cup that goes with it, but I’m probably just going to have to troll the local thrift stores to find something close enough. It brews about a half liter at a time but the only cups I have that fit are teacups half the volume.

Why, Microsoft. Why must you be like this. Who hurt you.

Reading a group's owners in MS Graph PowerShell:

Get-MgGroupOwner -GroupId <Group ID>

Reading a group's members in MS Graph PowerShell:

Get-MgGroupMember -GroupId <Group ID>

Adding a member to a group in MS Graph PowerShell:

New-MgGroupMember -GroupId <Group ID> -DirectoryObjectId <User ID>

Adding an owner to a group in MS Graph PowerShell:

$newGroupOwner =@{
  "@odata.id"= "https://graph.microsoft.com/v1.0/users/{<User ID>}"
  }

New-MgGroupOwnerByRef -GroupId '<Group ID>' -BodyParameter $newGroupOwner

I understand that Microsoft devs are likely deeply traumatized but they do not have to take out their feelings on the rest of us like this.

Why do drivers yell at me to ride on the sidewalk when it's illegal?

My city prohibits riding on the sidewalk. It's a $60 fine and is actually enforced enough that I've seen people get pulled over for it and yet nearly every time I get on my bicycle I get drivers honking and yelling at me to ride on the sidewalk? There are signs that say "share the road" and "Bicycles use right lane" with giant bicycles painted in the right lane and still people do this. People will slow down and follow behind me honking and screaming instead of just passing in the completely open left lane. I do not understand, doesn't that just slow you down and make it take longer to get where you're going? When I'm driving my car and I come up to a bicycle I just change lanes and pass them, it takes zero effort.

Husband laid off; trying to figure out what to do and how much time I have.

My husband got laid off this morning. They eliminated the position without warning and it takes effect on July 1. He's then getting severance pay through the middle of October. We both work so it's not a complete catastrophe, but he made a little more than me and I don't think we can survive on my income indefinitely without some drastic changes. Obviously plan A is for him to find a new job and we keep on trucking, but his field is extremely difficult to find work in right now and that might take a while. So I'm trying to plan ahead, but there's several moving parts here and I want to make sure I'm thinking through everything properly.

Our current financial situation isn't great. We were working on paying off a bunch of debt and got slammed with a huge tax bill, so our emergency fund is somewhat depleted. Here's some numbers:

  • Net monthly income for both of us - after taxes, 401k, and health insurance - as of today is $10,350. $5,100 is from my job, the rest from his.
  • Our monthly budget was $6,630. The remainder goes towards paying down debt or savings.
  • I can get that down to just under $6k without making any drastic life changes, just stuff like shopping for cheaper car insurance rates and cutting cell phone and internet plans to the minimum, which I'm already doing. That gets it to here:
Expense Budget
Rent $2880
Minimum Debt Pmts $960
Groceries $800
Cell & Internet $160
Utilities $420
Insurance $160
Medical $220
Transportation $170
Pets $100
Total $5870
  • Emergency fund is at $7,500.
  • I just bought a used car this past winter; $500 of the minimum debt payments are my car note but it's also underwater to the tune of $10k so I don't think I even could sell it? Hubby's car is paid off and I have a paid off and worthless motorcycle I can ride most of the year instead.
  • We just signed a one year lease renewal through May 2027. Our lease doesn't have an early termination clause, I believe we'd have to negotiate something with the landlord if it comes to that.

I guess my biggest worry here is if he doesn't find a new job by October we'll have to move to a smaller / cheaper place, and I'm not sure I can both stretch things to last until next May and then still have enough left over for a security deposit and everything on an apartment? I can find two bedroom apartments for $1,500 to $1,800 easily enough but I don't know if I'll still be able to move into one when my lease is up?

Does this routine make sense?

I'm just seeking some input on whether this workout routine makes any sense? I've done a little research and there's so much conflicting info that I'm a little confused about what I should do. I'm a menopausal woman and trying to both stay fit in general and maybe enhance my butt / thighs a bit? Here's what I'm doing right now:

Day 1

All are 3 sets of 10 reps:

  • Barbell squats, 65lbs
  • Pushups
  • Hip abduction machine, 70lbs
  • Abs crunch machine, 70lbs
  • Dumbell row, 10lbs both sides
  • Romanian deadlifts, 30lbs
  • Overhead press, 30lbs
  • Glute bridge, 50lbs
  • Plank, 30s x3

Day 2

Cardio, 45 mins on stair machine or cycling

Day 3

Rest

Then repeat this three day cycle until I die. How does that look?

I went to the gym this morning for the first time in twenty years!

I've always been afraid of working out and looking too muscly or bulky but menopause is a bitch and now my doctor says I have to actually lift a weight if I don't want want my bones to crumble to dust. So here we are.

This sucks. Utterly awful. I am in so much pain. I recommend just not getting old. Aging was a poor decision. One star.

I was scared that people would judge me and that I wouldn't know what I was doing but then I spent like 30 seconds googling "squat form" which appears to have already put me ahead of 80% of the crowd. Do people just not look anything up or do any bare minimum level of research whatsoever? I don't get it. Some guy with thighs the size of my torso gave me a thumbs up which made me laugh, though. I am a 40 year old mom struggling to squat 90 pounds and you're lifting my body weight at 6am. I should be giving you a thumbs up lol

Tomorrow is cardio day I guess. I'm gonna try out the eternal escalator thingy up front, it looks like less torture than running. Pray to your gods for me.

My coworker asked if I wanted an old Singer he was getting rid of. I didn’t expect it to be this old!

I’ve never sewn on a treadle machine before! My mother told me that she learned on a model 66 like this one. Also that I’m “making my life difficult for no reason” 😂

It needs a little work, but it spins freely and nothing looks to be broken, mostly just missing a belt and a few odds and ends.

Ever since I quit drinking I feel so isolated

My life has gotten so much better in so many other ways but it feels like I’ve completely lost the ability to socialize and make friends. Steak and berries and honey for dinner
