Dear u/paperlevel, mod of QuittingWeed. Can we please have a day counter like stopdrinking and stopsmoking have?

Dear u/paperlevel. First off, thank you very much for creating this subreddit. Very appreciated. Definitely not complaining. Thank you.

13 days ago I posted this, requesting the possibility of getting a weed sobriety day counter like stopdrinking and stopsmoking have. It looks like it is automatic through u/badgebot, and wound not require ongong work for you.

I tried sending you a direct chat message, but it looks like that is not possible. So I am asking again.

Thank you and have a great day.

Take the Nestea Plunge

We recently bought a house with a pool in the back yard. Thus far I have just been jumping in. Yesterday I remembered the commercial, so today I stood on the edge and wanted to give it a go.

I chickened out.

Ok fellow Generation Jones-ers, tell me your 'Nestea Plunge' story.

In an hour it will be Day 18 - I feel so much better. So many improvements

I was just laying in bed and I realized how much better I have been feeling the last few days.

The improvement I am seeing with weed (18 days) matches the improvement I had with alcohol(1406 days) and the improvement I had with tobacco (83 days).

I just felt like posting because I see so many struggle posts, and I want to try to encourage you all.

It is so damn hard to quit things we are addicted to. We physically want it. We mentally want it. It's virtually effortless to get. The light at the end of the tunnel is definitely worth it.

In the past I used to limit myself to one, maybe two prerolls with a 21 day (or more) break in between. Many times I was successful. As I've been getting older, the 'one, maybe two' would become 3, 5 .... and the past more than a few times I've been smoking all day every day for months.

I think that's called 'moderation'. And, just like with alcohol, I SUCK at it. I really really really hope this time is my wake=up call and I don't pick up again.

Note to self. Remember the suck for many days just like the lsat two weeks. You really think a short term use is going to be better next time? It's always the same, dude. Quit messing up your life. No more 420. Period.

Want to buy hardware cloth/wire fence by the foot - Is there an independent hardware store or building materials store?

I am making a dirt sifter, and want to buy only a few feet of various size pieces of hardware cloth/wire fence.

4 feet of 1"x1" grid, 4 feet of 1"x2" grid, 4 feet of 2"x2" grid... Whatever sizes they may have in stock.

Major chain stores only sell it in much larger rolls which makes this project too expensive for me. Years ago I could find it sold by the foot. I'm hoping there is still a place somewhere that sells it by the foot.

Thank you in advance.

Hydrostatic pressure against a 4*8*16” interlocking concrete block wall question

Hello Geotechnical experts.  My father-in-law was a licensed Geotechnical Engineer.  My father was a Civil Engineer.  I am an Electrical Engineer.  Over the years we had many great discussions, some quite spirited.  Sadly, they have both been gone for many years now, and I just retired and moved into a new home.  I would appreciate your thoughts.

The house was built 19 years ago, and the developer installed a 56-60” tall block wall on the lot line made of 4*8*16” interlocking concrete blocks, between  7 and 7 1/2 courses tall.  It is holding up well and appears to have a good footing in solid ground.

The grade on the outside is at the footing.  The grade in the back yard is between 16-20 inches above the footing.  When I dug out the weep holes, it was dirt and gravel with no drainage at all.

So what’s my point?
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a retaining wall made of 4 inch thick concrete block, regardless of height.
There is an HOA, so replacing the wall is not an option.
There is a desire to increase the inside grade up to 32 inches above the footing.

My assumptions:
If the grade difference were an inch or two, the consensus would be that as long as my weep holes are open, I’ll be fine.
If the grade difference were 50 inches, the consensus would be that the wall is going to fail.
If proper drainage were installed (perforated drain pipe under 12-18 inch wide drain rock), the grade difference could be up to  ___ inches.

No matter what I do, when it’s done I will definitely slap the wall and say, “That ain’t goin’ nowhere”.  But to get to that point I would very much appreciate your input.  Thanks in advance.

Day 10 - Double Digits!!!!

Today has been another better day.

Not like earth shattering better. That's not the way this works. But just like when I stopped drinking alcohol, and more recently when I quit tobacco. Day by day things continue to get better. And for that, I am thankful.

4x8x16" interlocking concrete block wall with 16 inch grade difference between sides. Problem?

The back yard has a block wall installed by the developer. They look to be 4"x8"x16" concrete interlocking blocks. It looks like it was built properly on a concrete footing. Prior occupants landscaped the back yard such that the grade is as much as 16 inches above the footing, while the grade on the other side is even with the footing. There was no attempt to include drainage near the wall. The drain holes in the bottom course were blocked with dirt/rock, they are now open.

I would imagine that a grade difference of a couple of inches would be no problem.

I would imagine that a grade difference of 3-4 feet would be a big problem.

So I think it would be better if I did something to fix it. What would you recommend?

Day 8 - That little voice in the back of the head. Rationalizing.... Negotiating....

Nope! Yesterday was better than the day prior. Which was better than the one before.

That voice lied to me about alcohol until 3Y10M ago.

That voice lied to me about tobacco until 76 days ago.

I hate that damn voice. IWNSWWYT

Another city, another downtown arch

I hadn't really paid that much attention before.

Ever since I learned Morgan Hill is going to get our very own downtown arch, I've been noticing more and more other cities that also invested in a downtown arch.

Would it be possible to get a day counter with badgebot?

Hi All,

Reddit suggested this sub for me a couple of days ago. I am currently 7 days weed free.

When I quit drinking alcohol 3+ years ago, the counter on r/stopdrinking was one of the things that helped motivate me.

I had my last cigarette 73 days ago, and the counter on r/stopsmoking has been even more helpful at motivating me.

I read the post in r/leaves from 15 years ago. Obviously the mod is entitled to their own opinion. I, personally, come to a different conclusion. For me, being able to see my counter helps me.

Yes, I know there are LOTS of other ways I can count my 'weed sobriety'. But the Reddit u/badgebot has been working for me in my other addictions, and I'd like to be able to track this recovery similarly.

As I said at the start of my post, I am very new to this sub, and I don't have any idea on opinions here. So I figured I'd ask, and see what people think. I look forward to learning something from each of you.

Thank you

Dangerous soil collapse risk

Visiting from out of town, saw this unsafe situation on La Bajada Ct, not sure where to let someone know as I am not from here.

Oops, ramped up the cannabis. Need to stop that

A few weeks ago I was very happy to see that I had made it a month tobacco free.

This past week, I noticed that my daily cannabis smoking crept up to multiple times through the day. Oops, that's not good for me. Obviously just replacing one with the other. Time to stop.

Remember the giant jars of giant pickles at the checkout counter?

Yesterday I was buying pickles in the grocery store, and it dawned on me that I used to see those huge pickle jars at the checkout counter of some stores where you could buy an individual giant pickle.

Do those still exist somewhere? Did they go away? If so, when?

Setting your badge/user flair

Hi All,

The other day I had a tough time figuring out how to set my tobacco free day count user flair. It was probably user error on my part. I just could not figure out how to send a 'message', since 'chats' seems to be the default now.

I finally got it, but today I had an idea and I think it will make it easier. Go over to r/stopdrinking and click on their 'Self serve badge instructions' https://www.reddit.com/r/stopdrinking/comments/cx9nic/the_time_has_come_for_a_change_at_sd_today_we_are/ It has a link you can click on to 'click here to send a badge request/reset'. Just change the 'title' from stopdrinking to stopsmoking.

photocopy of Arizona Vehicle Registration ok?

I recently moved from a state where it was legal to keep a photocopy of the vehicle registration in the vehicle with the street address blocked out.

Searching online, I am not able to find a definitive answer. Is this legal in Arizona?

I just bought this house. The developer had installed 6 inch gutters in some places, I want to get a professional to add the rest, with adequate downspouts.

One thing I am curious about though. Notice how the edge of the concrete tile is 4 inches out. This is in the desert southwest (Tucson, AZ). Won't monsoon rain just wash right over the edge of that gutter? Is there a way to bring it away from the house or something?

Thanks in advance
