Masunaga One Hundred

I’m thinking of picking up my first Masunaga One Hundred in Blue Demi (two-tone) with Volcane progressives. First, I’m planning to get the Dita GM Nine in Root Beer, then this one. I love its homage to the classic 000 shape, and it’s probably one of the few that’s almost wide enough for me. However, my optician noticed the temples flare outward slightly, suggesting the frame may be under a bit of tension. Is it still too small? What do you think?

Is This “The One”?

Well, I do love trying on different frames, so here are a few others I checked out along the way (because why not): Lunetterie Générale, Entourage of 7, Masunaga One Hundred, and Cutler and Gross 1386 and 1394. That said, I keep coming back to the Dita Grandmaster Nine (pic #1). The comfort, build quality, perfectly balanced weight, and especially that Root Beer colorway just keep pulling me back. It’s a little bolder than my usual understated style and pushes me slightly outside my comfort zone. I have already picked two and added them to my rotation. But definitely have the itch to pick my first higher end one. If I end up pulling the trigger, it’ll be my first real step into the higher-end independent eyewear world.

The One: Style, Comfort & Function

I’m still looking for the one that strikes the right balance of style, comfort, and function. So far, the two that have come the closest are the Masunaga One Hundred and the Dita Grandmaster Nine that I recently tried on.

I’d love to hear your long-term experiences with these brands, including Dita, and which ones you feel were truly worth every penny.

Cutler & Gross
Masunaga One Hundred (especially the black/demi)
Lunetterie Générale (particularly the Mastroianni)
T Henri
Vinilyze
Anne & Valentin

Last Dilemma - I Promise!

Feels like I’m beating the same dead horse and posting the same frames over and over. I promise this is (hopefully) the last one, and I genuinely need the community’s help.

A prescription change within a year meant I converted both of my impulsive Moscot sunglass buys (was useless since my prescription) into Transition progressives. Then my optometrist tweaked my near add from 1.75 to 2.00 to improve my workstation vision, so both lenses need to be remade anyway.

That gave me a chance to rethink the colors. My Blonde Lemtosh has Transition Gen S Graphite Green, but against my skin tone it often looks brown (under a UV flashlight it looks properly green). My Classic Havana has Zeiss PhotoFusion X Burgundy with Sapphire Flash, but now I’m wondering if I should swap things around: Zeiss PhotoFusion X Pioneer on the Havana, and Transition Gen S Ruby on the Blonde.

Am I overthinking this (again 😅), or do you agree the change will elevate these eyewears? Help me make the right call so I can finally stop pestering this sub… at least until my next eyewear crisis. 😂

Which Pairing Wins? So I Can Stop Annoying This Sub 😅

Feels like I’m beating the same dead horse and posting the same frames over and over 😂. I promise this is (hopefully) the last one, and I genuinely need the community’s help.

Just Window Shopping

Just window shopping! 😄 I have already picked up my converted Lemtosh prescription pairs, but I couldn’t resist trying on a few more. Sorry for being a recurring nuisance! 😂 Which one do you like best?

Down The Rabbit Hole Part IV

😂 To everyone’s annoyance, I’m apparently still not done. Went to pick up my “new” pair (technically not new) and of course ended up trying on a few more. I can definitely see how people end up with amazing collections. This really is a bottomless rabbit hole. 🐇😂

Thank You

A quick thank you to this community and a couple of other eyewear forums. You all gave me the confidence to convert my year-old sunglasses into prescription Transitions, and I’m really glad I did.

I Guess I’m a Lemtosh Guy

Loving this community and learning from everyone here. Once I start researching something, I inevitably fall down the rabbit hole. I think I’ve finally settled on my two frames (for now): my Moscot Lemtosh Blonde with, believe it or not, trusty Costco Accolade Freedom 4 progressive lenses and Transitions S Graphite Green, and my Moscot Lemtosh Classic Havana with Zeiss PhotoFusion X Burgundy and Sapphire Flash. I converted my year-old sunnies into prescription glasses with my latest prescription. I guess I’m a Lemtosh guy after all. Did I choose wisely? 😄

PS. Forgive My Blue Steel Pose 😂

The Eyewear Rabbit Hole Is Real

I finally understand how people become eyewear enthusiasts. 😅

Today I tried on some more adventurous frames from Matsuda, ic! berlin, Porsche Design, and DITA, and I’m finding myself appreciating the craftsmanship and unique design language of each brand. A few months ago I would’ve walked right past most of these, but now I’m seriously tempted. I know it is a slippery slope.

Down The Rabbit Hole Part Duex

**Edit: Deux not Duex" :D

Stopped by Eye Concept at Toronto Premium Outlets in Toronto today. After wearing some fairly hefty Acetate frames for a while, I wanted to see what lighter options felt like. Tried on a mix of lightweight Lindberg and typical bold ones I like from DITA

Lindberg Oscar GT
DITA Mach-Six (Silver)
DITA Mach-Five
DITA Sequoia
DITA Lancier LS 430
DITA (can’t remember)
DITA Grandmaster Eight

Curious which one suits me best. I’m leaning toward lightweight titanium for a change, but I am drawn to bold styling. Anything else you guys have to recommend?

Left or Right?

The dealership tried to talk me into a new X3, and I was almost swayed by the new chassis. That was until my 10-year-old weighed in. He took one look and called it "chunky," insisting our current 2019 model is way more "slick." I can’t argue with his taste- even if he is a tough critic!

From Clear to Graphite Green Transitions. Wise Upgrade or Midlife Crisis? 😂

Thanks to everyone who voted and shared their opinions on my last post. You gave me the confidence to take the plunge and turn my Moscot Lemtosh Blonde into progressives with Graphite Green Transitions. For some reason, the iPhone photos make them look more brown or amber than they do in person. I’ve included photos of both my previous setup and the new lenses. What do you think? Was this a wise decision, or did I just create an expensive science experiment? 😂

Previous Frames: Alain Milki AO3528 54/20/140
New Frames: Moscot Lemtosh Blonde 52/24/150 (converted previous sunglasses)

Nitto Motivo 365 All Weather on a 2019 X3: 5,000 km impressions

I took a bit of a gamble replacing my stock run flat Bridgestone Alenzas and dedicated OEM 19-inch Pirelli winter setup with a single set of Nitto Motivo 365s on my staggered 20-inch wheels. After putting about 5,000 km on them, including the transition from cold spring mornings to dry and wet conditions around Toronto, I can honestly say I’m impressed. At first I wasn’t sure about them, but once they broke in, they became a pleasure to drive with great comfort, confidence, and road manners in all conditions I’ve experienced so far. My previous summer and winter sets lasted a combined 107,000 km, and I was tired of the seasonal tire swaps, storage, and extra costs every year. I also much prefer the look and feel of the staggered 20s over the 19-inch winter setup, which always made the X3 feel a bit more like a typical SUV. Coming from a 2016 BMW 340i, I can be picky about driving feel, and honestly I haven’t had this much fun on a new set of tires since the Michelin Pilot Super Sports on that car. These Nittos have exceeded my expectations. I still need to see how they perform through a full Canadian winter and whether my 150 km daily commute affects tread life, but so far I couldn’t be happier. I originally wanted Michelin CrossClimate 2s or Nokians, but neither was available in my staggered 20-inch size in North America, leaving the Nittos as the only real option. If you’re in a similar situation and want one tire setup year-round without giving up too much, I’d definitely recommend giving the Motivo 365s a look.
