Yearly post

If you're new to UGA and lost or need to ask a question, look for a middle aged+ person. They're probably going to be staff/faculty and we've likely been here forever.

Don't hesitate to walk into an admin building and tell us what you need. I can't speak for everyone but we're a generally friendly bunch and happy to help students however we can even if our job does not directly relate to students.

Most buildings are open access 8-5, just come on in and find an open office door.

Kid gets knocked out by a sign.

We had a line back in the day in my retail phone store. A lady comes in with her kid just running rampant all over the place.

I asked her to please control her child because this isn't a playground and really not a safe place to have a kid just running all around because of the displays, etc.

She's in the middle of a rude comment to me when her kid hits a hanging display sign with his head and just totally JFK's it. Out, done, unconscious. Just done.

Of course she's going to sue us, all this, I give her the legal card and tell that she has threatened lawsuit and per policy, she has to leave the store and have our legal team contact ours.

Don't know whatever happened of it, but they're still in business.

(Kid was OK, no blood, probably should have been evaluated for a concussion but walked out under his own power)

413G NOS

Bought it for $20 at a flea market a couple of years ago. Missing the box but it's obviously never fired with the original pamplets and instruction manual inside.

I'm hosting a hibachi night on Friday, I have a 22" flat top and thought I'd put my cast iron griddle on this two burner and use it as an auxiliary cook top because I don't have a full sized Blackstone. I do have the three burner guide stove but it doesn't fit the griddle.

Fired it up tonight, no leaks, pump compresses and doesn't leak.

Burns like brand new which, I guess it is.

Question is, why are so many Coleman stoves and lanterns found 50-60 years later NOS? Did people just buy them for emergency use and never need them?

Edit: It's a 1971 stamped on the body.

Stop opening the dishwasher after the cycle has started!

I swear my housemate looks for a reason to interrupt the dishwasher cycle every goddamn time.

We were both in the kitchen, she said we should run the dishwasher, sure, whatever I started it.

Not 30 seconds later she's wanting to open it to put some fucking thing she has pulled out of the fridge.

Now I'm used to this bullshit with her so I ask are you 100% sure we are clear to start the dishwasher?

Stop interrupting the cycle! Once you push start, that is not the time to go find dirty dishes in your room or car, let it run 10 minutes, then snatch the door open and add more dirty shit.

Drives me fucking insane. Load it the fuck up and then leave it the fuck alone after you have started a cycle. Why is that so hard to understand?

Flat pack desks and Miatas

Been a long while since I've been there but the bane of my existence was customers showing up with a completely inappropriate vehicle for order pickup.

Of the the various combinations, the one sticks out most was a customer showing up for a flat pack desk in a Miata and then being incensed that my employees would not assist him in trying to attach it to his Mazda Miata.

I told him we'll bring it out to the sidewalk but that's it. If you chose to try to strap this onto a Miata we will not in any way help.

You can BUY some duct tape and string but we are not giving it to you. If you have an SUV or truck, trailer, anything that could reasonably carry a flat pack desk, sure, we'll throw it right in there.

A Miata, yeah no. Not happening.

He complained to corporate. That was one of the few times my DM was "ohhhhh, OK, yeah I get that, good call".

A shower is... Water?

I was reminded of this tonight.

Years ago when I was in cellular retail, a customer came in hot with his teenage daughter.

Her phone wasn't working.

The dad was just irate, they had just bought the phone a few months before, now it's not working.

I popped the battery off the phone (tells you how long ago this was) and water just poured out of it.

The liquid damage indicaters were pink, he's screaming the phone has never been wet.

I asked the daughter if she ever took the phone into the bathroom.

She replied that she took it into the shower with her every morning but "that isn't water like rain, right?"

I looked at her dad and his face was a mixture of anger and confusion.

The look on his face as he realized what was happening was priceless. It was anger, then confusion, then even more anger.

He kinda fish gaped at me for a few seconds trying to collect himself and I couldn't help myself from saying "and by the way this phone has a camera as well".

He made kind of a strangled scream, snatched up the daughter and off they went. From what I could catch of the conversation as he dragged her off, she was never allowed a phone again and especially not one with a camera.

Someone backed into me in a private parking lot the other day. I see ACCPD wants $24 for a police report? WTF? What are my taxes for?

I'm the one that got backed into and I'VE got to pay for this report that I have already paid for? WTF?

Cute Little Feller

Little 4" 1/4" rachet I bought off the impulse rack by the register at O'Reilly's.

Mostly because I thought it was funny but it's turned out to be a useful little bugger.

It's my official refrigerator wrench now, sometimes there just isn't room for anything else.

Night Owl is turning into Central Bark!

Ah, the home of the L-shaped pool table is no more. Been a thousand times since then but this time it's a doggie daycare.

Unable to order pickup Papa Johns without a tip?

Just tried to order Papa Johns on the app for pickup, it would not allow me to complete the order without adding a tip. I tried custom tip at zero, no dice.

Shitty pizza anyway but it's next door to where I am so I was willing to order out of convenience.

Nope, I'm not fucking tipping for pickup.

I know my non-order isn't going to put them out of business but I will not order from a place that requires a tip for pickup. I might have, if I had the choice, but try to force me? Fuck you, I'll eat whatever's in the freezer.

How many of you folks carry a knife daily?

I mean just a knife at all, a tiny keychain knife, a pocket knife, a Sykes-Fairbairn, whatever? I've always carried a pocket knife of some sort.
