I Saved $6k At 18 Y/O

I'm a late 18 and it's not much but it's honest work. I can't tell anyone I know but I'd still like to be celebrate with someone(s).

P.S.: Please don't take the meme seriously, I just included it because I thought it was funny.

Edit: I'd also love to hear from other ladies what we're investing in nowadays!

Edit 2: Thank you so much for all the love and advice, ladies! I will be looking into the S&P 500 as well as opening a high-yield savings account (actually have an appointment later this week at the bank so we'll see how it goes).

Also, just wanted to encourage all of y'all—but especially the younger Black girls in here—to be proud of wherever you are on your financial journey!

White People Really Care More About Animal Rights Than Civil Rights

Look, I get it, they'll never truly care or comprehend, etc.

But I just find it mind-boggling how you can sit there until you're blue in the face and explain all the ways in which slavery, racism, white supremacy, and literally everything else still has horrific effects that are still prevalent in today's society and a white person will struggle to imagine how you could even think like that.

But let Fido go an hour without food and suddenly we need to overhaul the Constitution to include animal rights, arrest everyone who's ever breathed at the damn dog wrong, and raise $100k for the dog's therapy.

Please, I'm tired.

Are Y'all Going To The Bronx or Brooklyn For Jamaican Food And Why?

Please, let's put convenience and proximity aside. I want to hear from people who have been both uptown (I want to say along White Plains Road, specially along and past Gun Hill Road) and downtown in Brooklyn.

Personally, I'd say the Bronx because, well, it's basically Little Jamaica. Brooklyn has Little Caribbean but if I want Jamaican food then I think it makes more sense to go to Little Jamaica as opposed to Little Caribbean but I'm interested in hearing others' opinions.

Ladies Who Want Marriage And Children...

I made this post a couple days ago but it was removed due to incorrect flaring. However, I'd still like to keep the conversation going.

So again, real, serious question: Why do you want those things? Like, is there a specific feeling that you guys get when imagining those things?

I'm not trying to be snarky—I genuinely want to understand because I don't feel the desire for those things.

Also, for the married women and the women in serious relationships: does it ever cross your mind that your partner could very much just wake up and leave you [and your children] one day? Again, not trying to be rude but that's something that I've always wondered myself about marriage.

Edit: This is NOT a post meant to call one way of living and choices right or wrong nor judge people who are married, want to get married, have kids, or want kids.

What Is With The Chloe Bailey Hate?

The lady isn't perfect—she's collaborated with Chris Brown, let's just get that out of the way—but for God's sake, people criticize her more for playing dress up and living her life than they do for that.

From that "sexy video" she posted a couple years back till now, all I've ever seen is people just antagonizing her for...existing?

And I know that's (unfortunately) just how life is for Black women (especially in Hollywood) but, in my opinion, Chloe just receives an abnormal amount of hate for things that her peers—hell, even her sister—would get away with.

This "Respect Your Elders" Nonsense Has GOT To Stop

I'm not saying that you have to be nasty to them but some elders are just very old and very, very stupid and/or ignorant.

Also being older does not mean anything. I will treat you with respect because you are a human being deserving of respect but if you're old enough to open your big mouth then you are old enough to get cussed out as well.

Wearing Bonnets Outside Is Still Considered Ghetto?

But why though?

I can understand if it's because going outside in a bonnet exposes it to a lot of germs which you would then bring back into your bed.

But let's say that you have two separate bonnets, one for outside and one for inside. Is it not just the same thing as wearing a hat?

And to the crowd that says that it looks tacky: why not just style it as a part of the outfit? It doesn't have to look out of place; maybe you just don't know how to put that shit on

Edit: Okay, so I'm seeing that a lot of ladies are likening it to wearing pajamas outside (which isn't a bad thing if that's how you choose to view it). But now I'm curious...Do y'all put durags/wave caps for men in the same category?

Do Y'all Ever See Each Other In Other Subreddits?

NOT IN A CREEPY WAY!

I think of it as continously seeing a stranger. The world is so big and the internet is even bigger (in my opinion) so I find it cool that sometimes I run into someone whose username I recognize from this subreddit.

Question for the Ladies w/ Big Feet

I'm not talking about being a size 8 or 9...This question is for my 10+ girlies: Where do you shop for cute—key word CUTE—shoes (namely heels)?

I'm so tired of wearing granny shoes (no offense to all the grandmas out there. Y'all rock it, it's just not for me). I wanna wear cute shoes too.

Why Can I Not Get Along With My Mother?

We are quite literally never even remotely close pages in the same book. If I'm mad, she's happy. If I'm happy, she's mad. If I want to get takeout, she wants to cook at home.

(The above were sarcastic understatements. We disagree on a much more fundamental level).

I Don't Enjoy Sex At All

I'm young so I know that's probably part of the "issue" and that, like anything, with age and more experience it will [probably] get better.

But I was under the impression that after a couple times that things would at least start to feel a bit enjoyable. But no, I feel nothing or pain. PIV sucks, getting eaten out feels like what I imagine a dog drinking from its water bowl feels like, and anything with my breasts just feels like its sensory play for my partner.

Even mastrubation just feels like I'm going through the motions.

Obviously, it's not supposed to feel like this but is there anything that helped you ladies actually enjoy sex and adjacent activities?

How Do Y'all Not Sweat?

It's HOT and every time I step out I end up looking like James Brown. Do you ladies have any tips and tricks (please and thank you)?

Can I (Transfer Student) E-Permit My First Semester?

I have heard that generally no, you cannot e-permit your first semester as an straight-from-high-school-undergraduate and/or transfer student. However, ths CUNY website also says that each school has its own policy.

Does anyone know the policy for Hostos? I'm guessing that the answer is most likely no but I just want to make sure.

The "Wendy's Style" of Marketing Sucks

I do not need government officials and corporations to post memes or have witty comebacks to other posts that they see online just to get their point across.

There is a way to make things engaging without acting like you're on stan Twitter or in an episode of Baddies. Please stop.
