Hello,
I am currently a teacher, and really do enjoy it. But, I can tell I am not going to enjoy it forever for three main reasons: the parents, the pay, and the emotional drain. Quite frankly, I don't want to put my heart and soul into my work only to have parents doubt me, see all of my paycheck evaporate because it is so small, and to end the day emotionally exhausted, only to not make enough money to put me and my family on the path that I imagine for us. I guess in this post, I'm really looking for perspective on the idea I have came up with through conversations with my wife and friends.
I'd be interested in transitioning to a career in real estate and financial planning. I became a teacher because I really like helping people, and financial planning / real estate preserves that aspect in some regard. I'm thinking of getting a real estate license and working part time while maintaining my teaching career until I have a clear exit from education, financially speaking. At some point, I can then pursue a CFP certification to grow from just real estate into a full-service financial advisor and planner. Then, I can get a CCIM and branch out into commercial real estate investing, but that isn't on the table yet.
I know that this is a lot of courses and certifications and it is generally good to be wary of pursuing certs for the sake of pursuing certs, but I do need the education if I want to transition into this direction.
Just interested in some thoughts!

After nearly a year, more than 500 applications, meeting with my Dad's coworkers, networking with anyone and everyone that would listen, courses that led to nothing, certifications that led to nothing, attempted pivots into other industries, tears, arguments, losing my identity, falling into deep depression, and contemplating every single decision I've ever made in my life, I signed a full time offer yesterday!!!
Keep your head up everyone. This market is awful and I know the toll it takes on all of us. We are more than the rejections, and when (not if!) you get the job, you'll be more than the job. Our work, or lack of work, doesn't define us. It is incredibly difficult to remember that, and rejection after rejection after ghost after ghost is uniquely destructive to the identity, but it is imperative to remember that YOU ARE MORE THAN YOUR JOB!
YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE. YOU ARE LOVED, YOU ARE IMPORTANT, YOU ARE UNIQUE, AND YOU HAVE A PURPOSE HERE.
DO NOT LET THE JOB HUNT DEFINE YOU!!!! DO NOT LET THE REJECTIONS TELL YOU WHO YOU ARE!!!!
Hi All,
My fiancée and I are moving to Stamford in July/August and are currently looking for an apartment. Our budget is very tight, with an absolute maximum of $2,000 / month (which is even higher than we should responsibly spend). Our non-negotiables are:
Nice-to-haves include:
Does anyone have any advice or leads?
Thanks!
The Torah prohibits communing with the dead (Deut 18:10-11).
How does this prohibition apply to various attempts to "resurrect" dead people using AI? I understand that an LLM is not a consciousness, but just a statistical representation of the relationships between words.
That being said ... how can we apply this halakha to this modern issue? Is it at all relevant?
I'd love to hear thoughts!
EDIT TO ADD MORE CONTEXT: I am not talking about logging into ChatGPT and asking it to act like a famous dead person. If, for example, Chabad took all audio / video recordings + written work of the Rebbe and created an LLM with that data as its base, how would the halakha apply? Would there be any connection to the issur stated in Deut 18:10-11? What other issues would exist, halakhically speaking?
NOTE: I am asking this purely hypothetically. I am of sound mind and am aware that LLMs are not conscious or sentient in any way. The snide comments many of you are making are rude and unnecessary.
Is this really the Rambam? My brother in law said it isn't.Is he right? If this isn't Rambam, who is it and why has this picture come to represent Rambam?
I'm inclined to think it isn't, particularly because in the famous picture he has shaved peyot, which I assume the real Rambam wouldn't have done
Is anyone here familiar with this health share? Thoughts? Considering joining due to cheaper rates when compared to traditional health insurance.
I recently saw Project Hail Mary. Great movie, go see it. Be warned, spoilers below.
>!The core tension in the movie, as revealed fully by the end, is that Dr. Grace had to make a decision: sacrifice his life to save the planet. !<
>!Let's assume the "math" here is cut and dry: Dr. Grace dies, the planet lives. Dr. Grace lives, the planet dies.!<
>!What would an Orthodox Jew's approach to this situation be? Chas V'Shalom none of us are ever in a situation remotely resembling this, but just hypothetically, how would an observant Dr. Grace handle this situation? Pikuach Nefesh doesn't apply when saving a life requires committing one of the big three sins (avodah zarah, giluy arayot, shfikhut damim), but how does that apply in this situation?!<
>!I'm inclined to believe that the halakha would say that Dr. Grace shouldn't sacrifice his own life, because there is an active vs. passive distinction (i.e. Dr. Grace is not actively the cause of the threat to the planet), but I struggle to understand how the halakha can take that perspective.!<
Looking to buy a cheap, barebones, most basic version of the bigme phone. Don't need color, don't need the fastest processor. Honestly looking for an eReader with phone capability, email, and basic internet. Where can I find? Is anyone here selling?
EDIT: I should add, I am worried about the lack of 5G on the Hibreak standard and Hibreak S. I'd love to hear from people's personal experiences, if that is a valid concern or not.
Does anyone here live in Stamford? What's it like there? Potentially considering a move. Young couple, no kids, one working in Stamford the other is an online student who will be working in the city.

Hi all,
Writing on behalf of my fiancee who is looking into the online BFA in Interior Architecture. I'm hoping someone can share their thoughts!
How is the program? Do you feel that it sets you up well for a career in Int. Design? What's the word on accreditation? Do you feel that the class projects themselves give you a strong portfolio, or do you have to do outside projects?
