I’m currently working as a US-based accountant earning around 80k net with HMO, government benefits, and taxes paid. Honestly, the compensation was okay and the company was nice at first, but lately I’ve been wondering if the stress is worth it.
When I started, my workload was manageable. I was handling around 6 properties. Then it grew to 9, and now 13 properties. Most of the work is bank reconciliation and month-end related, review of p&l. Balance sheet recon. I enjoyed it at first but with this new client I was given, it’s so draining especially when the books of other properties are so messy.
Some of the counterpart accountants are very hard to communicate with. Sometimes there are no replies to important questions, incomplete support, and it’s hard to balance when the information is lacking. It’s just stressful because it feels like it’s my fault why the books aren’t fixed right away, they don’t want to cooperate. All their bank recons are almost force balance. Tapos ayaw nila question sila. Ahahah Help me so I can help you, please?
Another thing is that there seems to be no growth at all. Many have been with me for longer — around 4 to 5 years — but there's still no promotion. Just more workload but no significant increase.
I think a big factor is that we changed supervisors recently. I really liked my previous supervisor because he was supportive and trusting. The current supervisor is still a bit micromanaging, maybe he's still groping since he was new, but it's also really stressful.
At this point, I feel like I want to find a healthier environment. I hope there's an angel on the subreddit haha 🙂
