running affinity through wine. what is this service?
been using affinity through wine lately and its all good. i just notice a service with a long-ass name when shutting down. name of the service is "app-winex2dProgramsx2dAffinity_______.service" (see image for the complete name), and it appears when i've used affinity even once during the session (program doesn't even need to be open when starting the shutdown). this service is not listed in systemctl when starting a session.
1- can wine set up "windows services" as systemd services? is this normal behavior.
2- if anyone uses affinity, on linux or windows: what is this service and what is its purpose?
thx in advance!
gaming in the third world be like
this is a real screenshot i took inside the game, no post-processing. i have to change my pc resolution to 320x180 so the game runs at stable 60fps. can't even lab combos bc i can't read the numbers
mom takes good care of her CDs
i almost cried bc of the sorry state this CD is in. found in the glove compartment of her car, no case nor sleeve, just the bare CD in the compartment... </3
got a tattoo of my favorite anime
sorry for the shitty pic, turns out it's hard to take a picture of your non-dominant arm
do autistics extremely care about details? (read post)
so i've had two things happen in the past few days with a friend group:
- we were discussing videogame controllers and their quality, and i was criticizing a cheap model thats usually sold in my country (this one if ur curious). i was saying the sticks are completely useless, their deadzone is gigantic and i couldn't play anything with it. the group chat told me "it's a 15 dollar controller, its good to have standards but nothing is ever enough for you"
- i said i was thinking about buying an old boombox for music (this model specifically, sony cfd f10), and they suggested to buy a knockoff JBL speaker because i can connect it to the phone. i said i dont like the sound quality of them and i'd prefer to buy something better, and they repeated the phrase "nothing is ever enough for you" and suggested that "you'd rather starve than eat something simple"
now, these two incidents got me thinking: do i care TOO much about small details?
when i download music i care about quality (i check the spectograms of the audio files to make sure the MP3s are real 320kbps and that the FLACs are real lossless, and i also check the tags so no song/artist is mislabelled). with movies i care about video quality (i check the bitrates of the video files and make choices depending on the size of the file and its resolution).
when i buy any kind of equipment or tech product i google everything i can and look for specific models before buying some random product from a no-name brand i randomly find in a store, and if it is a digital appliance, i check if i can hack it and/or jailbreak it so i can make the most of it.
when i look for new clothes i check for the measurements of the garment, how it fits to my body shape and what fabric it is made from.
i feel like when any single thing interests me, i end up learning too much about it to the point my enjoyment of the thing depends too much on small abstract details. i notice too much and i can't talk about anything because everyone else doesn't notice the same things. like what do you mean this music album "sounds nice"? didn't you notice how the dynamic range is all fucked up so the production becomes too bland to the point of detriment.
is this an autism thing or am i just extremely picky and annoying about everything? (i'm on assesment for level 1 autism, so all of this will be known to my therapist in a couple days)
[PC][2020s] parkour-ish game in first person about falling down platforms and giant trees
Platform(s): PC (i dont know if its available for consoles)
Genre: platformer / first person / parkour
Estimated year of release: 2018-2022 give or take
Graphics/art style: semi realistic. dreamy enviroments
Notable gameplay mechanics: you are on a big map and you have to fall down platforms. the movement is bit floaty and the goal is to get to the floor without falling down (if you fall down for a couple seconds you die and have to retry from the platform you jumped on). i remember there was a map of a giant tree, i think?
Other details: i remember i saw a gaming video essay that talked about this game among other things, but i forgot the name of the video. help would be appreciated!
new earthbound beginnings remake for the snes is a thing of beauty
sometimes my debian installation just breaks! i dont understand the causes and i dont even know how to start diagnosing this... but i do see some patterns:
- i can't open any programs. i cant even start a terminal
- if i have the terminal open, i try to run simple commands like ls but it fails with a "input/output error"
- system tray icons are fucked up: they become invisible when highlighting it with the mouse, and when i click on any of them, the fonts only show blank rectangles, like the fonts didnt load
- if im installing something through steam, all the downloads are cancelled and it says theres a "disk write error"
- i can't even shut down nor reboot the computer through normal means. i have to hard force a shutdown pressing the start button for a couple seconds
now, i have NO IDEA why this happens. the only things that i can do to reproduce the situation seem to be completely unrelated. i once tried to run a game through wine (but not through terminal, but making a desktop entry) and it broke the system. plus, last time this happened, i just was installing a game through steam. therefore, it may be that the reason this happens is unrelated to any of these things at all.
i'm running debian 13 trixie, kernel 6.12.85, kde plasma. any help to start troubleshooting this?
as you can see here, all the default gmail folders exist inside a "[Gmail]" subfolder. how can i make it so every folder shows up inside the IMAP main folder? i've found someone with the same problem in outlook and what they did was to change the "root folder path", but i do not see any similar option to this in kmail. any help?
i'm using kmail 6.3.3
i'm using debian 13 xfce, on an acer chromebook spin 514 (ezkinil), full UEFI rom firmware. everything went fine, but i run the chromeboot-linux-audio script thats on the chrultrabook docs and i can't get the audio to work.
seems like theres some errors in the script, but idk what they mean. i've already ran the script a couple times but i can't get audio to work. would love some assistance here!!!
edit: FIXED!
the problem was that the script looks for a driver named "acp3xalc5682m98", but seems like in ALSA the driver is now called "acp3x-alc5683-max98357".
easy fix: just copy the folder and rename it to "acp3xalc5682m98", and also rename the "acp3x-alc5683-max98357.conf" file inside it to "acp3xalc5682m98.conf". then rerun the script, reboot, and its done!
my chromebook is listed as supported on the chrultrabook docs, but there is this note here. i've searched a bit and i'm not sure how to proceed.
archwiki says you need to pass this parameter either when building the kernel (which is complicated to me because i have no compiling experience), or configuring the bootloader so the kernel runs the parameter in the command line when starting.
my fear is that i wouldn't be able to configure the bootloader since i don't have the OS installed. is this parameter needed for linux to boot in my device? can i boot normally and then set everything up after the OS install? or can i just set this up in the live image? i'm at a loss here, sorry for being a noob but please help u.u
and since i'm already here, i will sneak a couple unrelated questions.
1- how's battery life compared to stock chromeOS? i'm thinking debian xfce
2- my device is a acer chromebook spin 514 (ezkinil board), it has 2-1 tablet mode. when going to tablet mode it automatically disables the keyboard and rotates the screen according to the laptop's position. is this compatible with linux? or with xfce specifically?
