Looking for feedback on why our latest video underperformed.

Video:
https://youtu.be/YXVr4EK23qg?si=ThSHRz2Dghuc5s-8

Would appreciate honest feedback on:

• Title
• Thumbnail
• Hook / first 30 seconds
• Retention assumptions
• Topic choice
• Packaging vs content issue

Please be brutal 😭Trying to understand whether this is mainly a click problem, viewer retention problem, topic mismatch, or something else.

Thanks.

Scriptwriter looking to work with YouTube creators (offering trial scripts)

Hi, I’m a freelance scriptwriter and recent BTech graduate trying to build in the YouTube/documentary space.

I mainly write:

documentaries

geopolitics

economy topics

social issues

investigative pieces

reflective essays

short-form storytelling

Some topics I’ve worked around recently:

NEET paper leak

Taiwan semiconductors

Gig worker protests

State economy comparisons

I know hiring writers from Reddit is risky, so I’m okay doing 1–2 scripts first as trial work.

If the style matches and the scripts add value, we can continue from there.

Portfolio:

Looking mainly for creators working on faceless content, documentaries, reels or research-heavy channels.

[ForHire] Scriptwriter looking to build a faceless content team (not looking for payment initially)

I’m a scriptwriter trying to build in the faceless content space and realised writing is the only thing I consistently bring right now.

Most of what I work on is documentary style writing, social issues, geopolitics, economy topics, investigative pieces and reflective essays.

Some topics I’ve written around recently are the NEET paper leak, Taiwan semiconductors, gig worker protests, state economy comparisons and identity/self reflection pieces.

I’m not an editor, animator, thumbnail designer or voice artist. So I’m looking for people who already do those things and want to build something together.

Not looking for payment initially. More interested in learning, contributing and building an actual channel/project instead of throwing around ideas.

Portfolio:

If you’re already building faceless content and think writing is the missing piece, happy to connect.

What creator habit took you the longest to realise was actually hurting you?

Mine was deleting. Not bad videos or failed uploads, but deleting things before they ever had a chance. Re-recording, rewriting, changing tone, trying to sound more “right”. I kept treating discomfort as proof something was wrong when most of the time it was just me not being used to being seen yet. Curious what creator habit took you the longest to realise was hurting you?

Small reflective essay channel. I think I’m improving the wrong things.

I’m making short reflective / essay style videos around identity, uncertainty, feeling disconnected from your own life, that kind of space.

The writing feels better than when I started. Thumbnails are improving. Titles are improving. But growth is still tiny and I’m starting to think I may be fixing the wrong problem.

My suspicion keeps changing:first I thought it was writing, then retention, then thumbnails now I’m wondering if it’s actually positioning or audience fit.

For people who make slower essay / documentary style content: What was the thing you were completely blind to early on? Trying to learn before I keep spending months improving the wrong area.

Most video essays confuse information density with depth

Something I’ve started noticing while writing documentary/video-essay scripts:

A script can be extremely researched and still feel emotionally flat.

Depth doesn’t come from how much information you include.

It comes from:

  • sequencing
  • escalation
  • framing
  • unanswered questions
  • emotional consequence

Some creators accidentally turn fascinating topics into lectures because every paragraph explains instead of progresses.

The documentaries that stick with me usually feel like investigations unfolding in real time.

What’s a video essay that nailed pacing for you?

What actually kills retention in long-form documentary videos?

After writing multiple long-form documentary/video essay scripts recently, I’ve started noticing that viewer drop-offs often happen when the script shifts from narrative progression into pure explanation.

Especially in:

  • geopolitics
  • scams/fraud
  • history
  • current affairs

A lot of creators overload context too early instead of escalating tension.

The best-performing documentaries usually keep changing the audience’s understanding of the story every few minutes.

Not:
“more facts”

But:

  • new stakes
  • contradictions
  • hidden incentives
  • consequences

For creators making long-form content:
What retention issue took you the longest to figure out?

Most documentary style YouTube intros lose viewers too early

I’ve been writing investigative/documentary scripts recently (scams, geopolitics, finance, internet mysteries), and one thing I keep noticing is:

A lot of creators explain the topic too early.

The audience understands the premise…
but they don’t feel curiosity anymore.

Good documentary scripting usually delays certainty and keeps introducing new unanswered questions.

Curious:
How do you structure your intros for retention?

Building my Youtube Channel

How do you deal with showing up when nothing is visibly working yet?

Not burnout. Not algorithm frustration. Just that specific feeling where you're posting consistently, the numbers are small, and you genuinely don't know if anything is landing.

I'm a month in. 18 subscribers. 7 videos. No signs of it taking off. But I keep showing up anyway and I'm trying to figure out if that's discipline or just stubbornness.

Curious how others have handled that middle period before anything clicks but after you've already committed to it.

Help me with feedback for my Youtube Channel

Channel: No Guidebook

Niche: Cinematic essays on life, fatherhood, and becoming

Video: why i keep showing up even when nothing is working

Link: https://youtu.be/OLLzsM2iKjE?si=szEQR0EjdwR4u1rw

Context: 18 subscribers, 7 videos, about a month in. Shot on iPhone, edited minimal by design no heavy music, no aggressive cuts.

Specific things I want feedback on:

- Does the hook pull you in or do you drop off early?

- Does the pacing hold or does it drag?

- Does it feel authentic or performed?

- Would you watch the next one?

Not looking for "great job" genuinely want to know what isn't working. Happy to return feedback on anyone else's video in this thread too.

Style: investigative / narrative video essay
Format: voiceover-ready, structured with clear sections, pacing, and flow

What you get:
– Complete long-form script (35–40 mins)
– Clean storytelling structure (hook → buildup → analysis → conclusion)
– Production-ready (easy to convert into video)

I write across:
– Current affairs
– Business & economic topics
– Long-form YouTube storytelling

If you’re building a channel or need consistent documentary-style scripts, I can handle long-form content.

Hey, I've written a short film script and looking for a director who wants to shoot it.

It's a 5 to 6 minute emotional short. One actor, one room, one night. A guy processing a breakup alone. Very filmable, no big production needed.

The script is free. I just want Written by Likhith Kunder in the credits. Your name stays on it as director, full credit yours.

Part 1 is done and the rest is ready too. If this sounds like something you'd want to shoot, DM me and I'll send it over.
