When to trademark a launch.

I am UK based, planning a UK / US kickstarter and looking at trademarking.

Uk trademark first and kick ball off with US trademark is successful or get UK and US trademarks before launch?

Laser recommendation required.

So, last night I drilled a 100mm hole in my garage wall for an extract. I am officially committed to the laser path.

Unfortunately I seem to have conflicting requirements. I need to:
Mark 3d prints, predominantly white PLA at present, replacing labels
And
Cut 4 to 6mm clear acrylic

It would appear I need a Co2 for the acrylic but thats pants for engraving detail.

Anyone any advice on the best way forward?
Do I need 2 different machines? (That will be hard on the budget and a harder sell to the wife!)

Laser engraving 3D prints

Hi All,

Know nothing about laser stuff and hoping for some advice.

I am designing a puzzle box and trying to get rid of the labels on the top. I understand you can laser engrave 3d prints to quite a fine detail. I am quite happy with single colour.

Is this a thing?
What sort of resolution should I expect?

What sort of machine should I be looking for?

Are there any low cost options or are these a wast of time?

Sorry for the avalanche of questions, this is a new area for me.

Compliance advice for product

Hi All,
I am designing a product that includes a acrylic box. I am buying this in currently and want to put a technical file together.
I can’t seem to find a supplier that provides any material compliance data sheets. Given these are for sale in Uk I was expecting some compliance information.
What does everyone else do? Am I been a bit paranoid about compliance?

SDS doc for cured prints

I am using a resin printed part in my product for a kickstarter. I can get the SDS for the liquid resin but how do I prove the component is safe once cured?
I am using Elegoo water washable resin.

Kickstarter advice - local or global

Hi all, looking for some advice on my project.
I am planning a kickstarter for my puzzle cube as pictured.
It’s not designed for kids as getting it through CE/UKCA requirements would be difficult if it was classed as a toy.
What would be your advice for approaching this. If I go global I was thinking of using a 3PF service for Europe and another for USA. Does anyone have any experience?
Also, anyone any advice on standards I need to meet ?

Any advice most welcome. Thanks.

Solution QR code on puzzle box design

Hi All,

I am working on a new puzzle box design and was hoping for some advice/opinions.

I was planning on putting a QR code link to a solution page in the area shown in the picture. I realised, I have never seen a puzzle with the solution link on the puzzle itself before, they have always been supplied separately. With the code there it may encourage some to give up early. I am designing this puzzle box to be a challenge.

Question: Is this a good idea or should I not put a link on the puzzle itself and supply it separately?

UK kickstarter to international audiences

Hi All,

I am thinking of launching a kickstarter and want to target as wide an audience as possible.
My product is a puzzle box not aimed at kids so should avoid UKCA/CE requirements.

Can anyone advise me on what I should be considering if I accept pledges from EU or USA etc?

Also, at what point should I be considering a fulfilment centre?

Thanks

New Puzzle Box Design

Hi All,

I have a new puzzle box design and it’s ready to roll out. I really could do with some help testing it and getting an idea how long it takes to solve. I am willing to give a couple away free to testers in return for feedback. If your preferably in the uk and interested let me know

Puzzle box mazes

I have designed a series of puzzle boxes I intended to sell online. However, as they look like toys I needed to UKCA mark them and they failed on one test. If you smash one it can leave a sharp edge ☹️

They are proper boxes, load with reward, lock and you have to solve the maze to open.

Not sure what to do with them now.

Need to find someone with a laser cutter that can cut 3mm acrylic.

Light path

My printer is near the window for ventilation. With sun on window, even with blind down, you could see light getting in through rear vent hose.
10 minutes and a re-tasked filament box and it was fixed.

Hi all,

First, I have a loyalty program app I have been developing. I will not mention the name here so no promotion. This is a genuine question.

I originally wrote the app for NFC tags and had all the functionality developed around NFC reading/payload. Over the past year I have been migrating the app more to QR code support and now I would say it’s more QR focused than NFC. I am now wondering how important NFC support in the app is compared to QR. QR I am finding is more flexible and a lot easier to develop with.

How many of you using QR codes also use NFC? Is dual use even a thing or is it more one or the other?
