Got paid during “Unpaid Leave of Absence.
Long story short — my work permit expired on 4/30 and I’ve been on leave since then. HR told me I’d be placed on unpaid leave until I can provide my new valid EAD card. However, I just received a direct deposit from my employer, which was unexpected. It’s only about half of my normal paycheck, and I’ve been out for two weeks now. Any thoughts? I’m confused since I was told the leave would be unpaid — wondering if they may have applied my vacation or sick time to cover a week or so.
