Grilled mozzarella, tomato, spicy ground beef, more mozzarella and a nice helping of spring onion on a nicely grilled Ciabatta.
As Australians, is it frustrating to have global media be very northern hemisphere-centric?
Hi all,
I'm from the northern hemisphere (Europe) and I've recently wondered how it feels for people living in the southern hemisphere to be largely ignored when it comes to things like seasonal events or how the timeline of a year is presented. I'm kind of asking multiple questions here, because I'm curious about your overall perspective.
A lot of media I consume or YouTubers I watch invariably come from the US.
For instance, at Christmas, it's easy to find a YouTuber who says it's cold outside and he/she hopes you're all keeping warm at that time of year.
If I type "Christmas" into Google Images, the results I get depict snow, cosy hearths, winters markets etc. But if I want Google Images to show me what a southern hemispheric or Australian Christmas looks like, I have to specify it when searching.
Movie and video game trailers typically give a release date, but often also give a season (despite a global release, thus being not fully accurate).
A classic "riddle" in my country says that a baby is born in the middle of July in winter. How is this possible? And it rarely occurs to people that this baby simply didn't come from the north. This seems to be the general mindset in the northern hemisphere: It's summer now (at the time of making this post) and that's that, despite it not being a universal truth. It all depends when you live.
Granted, I've never been to the southern hemisphere, so I can't really comment on the culture of countries like Australia and, therefore, I could be completely misinformed. But are Australians more conscious and aware of the differences between the northern and southern hemispheres? Are your algorithms and media geared more towards Australia? If you type Christmas into Google Images, what comes up?
And, overall, how do you feel about a world where the nuances of the southern hemisphere are largely forgotten by the majority of people globally?
I'm not sure if this has been answered before, but how did Rocky physically manage to reach the finish line?
Of every character to have been made a playable fighter, who would be the LEAST requested or wanted, had they never been added in the first place?
My thinking is Dr. Mario, because he's unapologetically just Mario with a lab coat, as far as discernible character differences go. Mario also received alternate costumes based on recent games circa 2018 in Ultimate, so I can imagine an alternate timeline where he had a costume of him as Dr. Mario. Anyone agree or disagree?
GameCube game collection 2026. Thoughts?
I also have Mario Kart: Double Dash, but not the case: only the disk.
