Im at a loss

Im at a loss

I’m struggling to decide what this is. Caught in the South Fork Catawba River in Gaston County, NC.

No streaks on its face, no vertical lines, extremely pale yellow to the point of almost being translucent. Small mouth. I can’t tell if it has blue along the jawline…

My top 3 guesses are bluegill, redbreast, or flier (if they’re even around here.)

What do yall think?

Amazing Session

Caught my PB at a small pond! I used a Zman Hellacrawz on a 1/10 oz ewg Ned head on my ML Tatula XT and Regal 2500. This fight was crazy! It was peeling drag, jumped 5 times, ran 6 times and pulled back all but one of the times I tried to bring it in. There were several other large bass around it, 3 of which were bigger with one being several inches longer. I have to say the main reason I caught it was because I left my scale in the car - almost every other time I’ve brought my scale and only gotten dinks 😂. I did have my measuring tape though, it was 19.5”.

I also found my old Zara Spook that I lost to a snag a couple of months ago

I wasn’t having any luck at the river today no matter what I threw even though fish were feeding all around me. I decided to try to catch a panfish to keep from skunking, so I switched to my Ultralight Legalis/Tatula XT combo and put a 2” Rebel Live Flex Shore Shiner on a 1/64 oz Mule jighead, and hooked up with this fella under a sunken tree about 3 feet off the bank. It was probably the hardest fight I’ve had on my UL, peeling drag, jumping, and it took me a full minute to bring him in. I left my scale in the car (because I hadn’t caught anything worth weighing for several weeks), but I had my measuring tape, he came in at 16”.

His tail looks like it’s pretty freshly worn down, so I’m guessing he was either preparing a bed or guarding one.

Had about a half hour open this evening and stopped by the local park pond in the light rain. All I carried down with me was my UL set up with a coppertreuse Zman Guppy GrubZ on a 1/64 oz mule jighead. I ended up with 5 bass (including my 2 smallest ever), 12 decent bluegill, and a 10 inch crappie. One of my most efficient and productive fishing sessions ever!
