Great turnout for the James River Association's monthly Chapel Island invasive species removal. Way to start the weekend! To join next month visit: https://thejamesriver.org/
I want to thank everyone, especially Lisa from SouthsideReleaf.org, and Brian, from Keep Virginia Cozy, for participating in this massive 2 hour clean-up event. This event was also part of a global day of volunteerism supported by idealist.org Event Day. RVA was one of hundreds of cities to participate. The next Idealist Event Day is 9/9. Expect a post with an invite the week prior. Let me know if you would like to organize your own volunteering event - all caring ideas are welcome.
Nearly half of patients who contract C. auris die within 90 days, according to the C.D.C.
Candida Auris is a drug-resistant fungus. The fungus, called Candida auris, preys primarily on older people with weakened immune systems and is particularly dangerous because it resists treatment by common antifungal medications. C. auris was first reported in the United States in 2016, showing up most notably in New York and Illinois, where public health officials hoped they could contain it by rigorous screening and infection control in long-term care facilities and nursing homes.
At JA Finance Park, I had the privilege of working alongside bright and engaged high school students and VCU graduates who participate in Richmond City's Street Smartz Safety Program. JA just rolled out a new simulator application that provides real-world experience in picking a career, setting budgets, and spending.
Our official soft launch of the new community space dedicated Healing Justice & Community Power Building will be on August 1st!

I went through the exact same nightmare in which DPU vastly overstated my water consumption. It took close to 1 1/2 years to resolve the issue.
For this couple, DPU is blaming their botched roll-out of a new accounting/billing system. I've worked in IT software implementation for decades and I call bullsh*t on this explanation.
Ever since my issue, I review each month's bill prior to setting up a future payment. More work? Yes, but peace of mind.
We have until Monday, July 13 11:59 PM to submit comments.
The proposed rule gives political appointees, not career experts, the power to veto any grant before it is awarded and to terminate any active grant at any time.
This rule change impacts EVERYONE.
The WH Office of Management and Budget (OMB) rewrite of 2 CFR Part 200, the legal framework governing every federal grant to every recipient, every agency, government-wide. It is not just a science grant regulation. It touches the $1.1 trillion in all federal grants that flow to state and local governments every year, including Medicaid, transportation, education, food assistance, and more.
HOW TO WRITE A COMMENT THAT COUNTS:
● Use your own words. Identical form letters are counted as a single comment. Three original sentences beat a
polished copy-paste.
● Say who you are. No credentials required. Being affected is enough.
● Cite a section number. For example §200.340 (grant termination), §200.205 (political appointee review), or
§200.202 (program alignment mandate). Specificity forces OMB to respond.
● Explain the concrete harm. What happens to you, your family, or your community if this provision takes effect?
● Close with an ask. "I urge OMB to withdraw this provision" or this section is sufficient.
Join us on Tuesday, July 14, from 4:30–7:30 PM at Main Street Station to celebrate the impact of Open Access transit across the region and support its future through the Transit Access Partnership (TAP).
Westover Hills Elementary School PTA sponsored a garden clean-up. While school is out, these are weekly weeding and watering events. I volunteered yesterday as part of Idealist.org Day Event for 7/7. Hundreds of volunteers from around the world were on a zoom call to share their events and experiences.
I welcome any ideas for 8/8? You are welcome to join me or work on your own.

Russell Vought's Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is pulling a fast one. His proposed changes to the Guidance for Federal Financial Assistance will essentially allow him and his cronies to pick and choose funding for grants, cooperative agreements, and other forms of assistance. The basis of their decision is based on Project 2025 ideology.
They will exclude anything that is scientifically based, DEI, WOKE, and "various anti-American ideologies in American education".
The courts already struck down a prior update and now he's at it again.
