The Witcher 3 Remastered update looks noticeably worse on Series S

On Performance Mode:

  • Extremely blurry
  • Weird shadow pop-ups
  • Worse framerate with a lot of drops, feels really jagged
  • Shadows are so dark they obscure most of the color
  • Whites are much brighter

NONE of these issues were there with the Next-Gen Update from December 2022.

The remaster has tons of bugs across all platforms but Series S really got the ugly end of the stick here.

How to win the War of the Ninepenny Kings as Maelys 'the Monstruous' Blackfyre

It's... not easy. Very RNG-dependent.

Mod authors kinda cheated here. In lore, the war was a preemptive strike from King Jaehaerys II Targaryen to stop the Band of Nine before it could invade Westeros. In the mod however Maelys Blackfyre is actually doing an offensive war, meaning the clock ticks against you to occupy enemy lands, otherwise you steadily lose war score.

Anyway, here's the "guide":

  1. Pick War focus. Marry the Yronwood girl with decent fertility if you want, just be careful not to sire a heir while your capital Bloodstone is being besieged. Wait a day for Maelys's massive Martial to tick, then raise all levies. You should start with about 12k troops, including tons of event troops, and enough ships to host 15k men.
  2. You have two allies, the Fossoway leader of the Golden Company (not really useful) and Alequo Silvertongue, the upstart ruler of Tyrosh. Sometimes Maelys is the war leader, sometimes it is one of the other 2 guys. If you own Monks & Mystics DLC just let them occupy enemy lands as they are keen to do by default.
  3. The Iron Throne AI, and its myriad Lord Paramount allies, will keep their doomstacks around the Crownlands playing whack-a-mole with ever-replenishing tiny Tyroshi levies. It should take a while for them to besiege your lands in the Stepstones + Disputed Lands, but honestly just ignore these if they do end up being attacked.
  4. Your target: Aerys Targaryen, Prince of Dragonstone. No ifs, no buts. After 30+ attempts I am convinced you can only win through the heir to the Iron Throne. Send your 12k men to Dragonstone ASAP. Besiege it. Then pray.

Why the future Mad King, you ask? Well you lucky bastard, King Jaehaerys II starts with like 3.0 health points. Grab Prince Aerys (he is never a commander and always sits his ass on Dragonstone), wait for the RNG gods to make the king inevitably "die of poor health" in just a few years, then enjoy the 100% war score from getting the new king under your chains already.

The AI is usually afraid of defending Dragonstone. For one, it's a land not directly owned by any major ally or Jaehaerys himself so the AI sets it as low priority. The debuffs for strait crossing from Driftmark + disembarking from ships + your insane high Martial means you should win even if errant armies go your way.

Save before arrival, and before siege ends.

How the war went shortly after King Jaehaerys II died: https://i.imgur.com/j5qq5rA.jpeg

Savescum if you fail to capture Aerys - remember, mod authors cheated too. See that -76% warscore at the very end? Wouldn't be there if it was a defensive war as in lore.

Anyway, it feels pretty cathartic: https://i.imgur.com/eoaQCaw.jpeg

I do believe Queen Naerys cucked Aegon IV with Aemon the Dragonknight: https://i.imgur.com/SIyr3oh.jpeg

After the death of King Maelys (who spent half his reign in hiding due to countless assassins), his son King Aegor manages to find a dragon egg at rebuilt Summerhall (event unocuppied.12, or wait around 50 years while Summerhall is being rebuilt), and it hatches in the reign of his son King Maenar (couldn't rename this king for some reason, would have called him Daemon): https://i.imgur.com/mNlt7QG.jpeg

Realm is stable, Targaryens are still around but harmless now. Blood and Fire!

Hope you enjoyed it.

[Submod] Westeros + Free Cities + Slaver's Bay by nathaniel - now with Dany's events!

Hello guys,

I took the liberty of making a slightly different version of the Westeros + Free Cities + Slaver's Bay submod. It's mostly the same, but I restored the Daenerys Stormborn event chains in both the ACOK and AFFC bookmarks.

These were turned off in the official Westeros Only submod (which this mod used as a basis) since they didn't work (almost all Dany events happen outside Westeros) but this mod's scope actually allows them to work perfectly!

That's right, Qarth's absence is irrelevant. Granted, you won't be able to marry Xaro Xhoan Daxos, locking yourself out of the 1 (one) event that happens after you pick that option, but the entire House of the Undying event chain works well, surprisingly. Same with the "go to Pentos or Astapor" event dilemma; Dany does not even need land or a liege thanks to her Great Grass Sea titular duchy.

I mostly tested it with Slavery game rule turned off, so the wars of liberation (where weird stuff like e.g. Braavos ends up defending Myr/Tyrosh/Lys) don't happen. Dany either fucks off to Westeros right after beating Yunkai's counterattack or becomes empress of Ghiscar.

Usual CK2 randomness is still a thing. In 7 test runs with AI, Dany died of sickness once, became empress of Ghiscar twice, somehow lost the war against Meereen once, was murdered by plot once, and inherited the Iron Throne by accident once. In just 1 run did she actually beat everyone around Slaver's Bay and declare war on Westeros.

Anyway: all thanks to nathaniel for making the Westeros + Free Cities + Slaver's Bay submod and to the AGOT team for the original Westeros Only submod. It's nice to play in a less bloated world but still with all relevant areas. Big plus for not having the Iron Bank of Braavos society here, the event spam from that thing drove me crazy in vanilla!

Compatible & tested with unofficial patch 2.7!

Do you ever customize the "name" of the Phantom Thieves? If so, what would you call it?

Shame it doesn't show very frequently, and your group is called Phantom Thieves anyway, but still it is nice to have room for some personalization.

Yakuza 7 (Yakuza Like a Dragon) vs Yakuza 8 Infinite Wealth. Which is the better game?

Considering exploration, side stories, combat, main story, soundtrack, cast, villains, etc.

My free and open-source adaptation/remake of Dragon Age: The Last Court just got a new update. Hope you guys enjoy it!

HOW CAN I PLAY IT?

For free! And since it is open-source you can also modify it pretty much however you like. Link in the comments!

I ALREADY PLAYED IT. DID ANYTHING CHANGE SINCE YOUR LAST UPDATE? ANYTHING... MEANINGFUL**?**

You tell me:

  • Added a location system inspired by the original game, where your character's location in the world will be discreetly reflected on the UI.
  • Added new icons taken and upscaled from the original game; they are now adapted as more elegant links to the Chronicle, the Codex and the Tutorial.
  • Added new images to represent the Chateau Serault, the Applewoods, Serault Town, and the fields of Serault.
  • Added a Hard mode. That means The Last Court now has Casual, Normal, Hard and Nightmare difficulties just like every other Dragon Age game. Feels... consistent, doesn't it?
  • You can now back out of the Chronicle, Codex or Tutorial and go right back to gameplay without needing to manually rewind! Handy, isn't it?
  • Added a new logo in slightly higher resolution.
  • The game will now automatically save your progress when you reach an ending.
  • Reduced overall game size from ~12 mb to ~9 mb.
  • Added more off-ramps to Cases, allowing you to cut off investigations at several more moments.
  • The status of Serault as a Shamed realm will now be shown on the UI, and may (let's be honest: it very probably will) change throughout the game.
  • Revamped the stats UI so it is considerably less cluttered, especially since the name of each Stat/Attribute/Threat is repeated several times across the game anyway. Surely by now you figured out Woods-wise is represented by a weed?
  • Players can now pursue romance in Chapter 6 even if they had rejected the idea previously.
  • Moved an event related to a certain Sorceress so it happens a bit earlier. Emphasis on "a bit", but believe me it does flow better.
  • The end of Chapter 5 has been considerably streamlined, and will now show an event depending on your Attributes and Threats.
  • If you chose not to pick a lover you will gain a bonus to your Health. Relationships often give a headache anyway so enjoy your solitude!
  • Cases now more have icons that clearly show you are investigating something.
  • More situations where you "skip" past some content will be shown through an appropriate icon.
  • Added a small bonus to try hiring the Baron or the Abbess, though it still has a malus.
  • Moved around some end-of-event flavor lines.
  • Chapter numbers now use - brace yourself - *numbers* to fit mobile users better. PC players won't feel a difference.
  • Your Assets are now divided in categories, making for easier browsing.
  • Re-balanced dozens of events, particularly the ones that can show up in more than one Chapter.
  • Re-ordered some Chronicle events and assets.
  • The Flames of Freedom event chain has been moved further upwards - that is, it happens even earlier, in Chapter 6, finishing in Chapter 7 like before. Go see for yourself how awesomely superior this new arrangement is.
  • The Daylight Hunting system has been tweaked and rebalanced. You will mostly lose hours when failing events instead of losing in seemingly random passages.
  • Speaking of hunting: it is now possible to fail your hunt entirely if you end up with too few hours!
  • It is now possible to mess up the hind/boar event and have the animal flee from your grasp.
  • All classes were rebalanced to be closer to the original game's Huntress class, with 150 points instead of 160.
  • Removed maluses from all Happenstance starting events. Now only your choices result in those!
  • Switched two event descriptions related to that dwarf. You know the guy.
  • Added new icons to clarify which actions lead to a romance. It's really on the nose.
  • Every "Serault is X!" disaster event now has a unique image.
  • Firing an adviser now leads to slightly better rewards.
  • Added an alternate flavor line to a certain stat in the Codex.
  • Added a new name to the Credits.
  • Moved a line from the opening card to the Codex, making the opening more similar to the original.
  • Added proper Skill Check icons to several events related to the Errant Siblings and the Spider's Web.
  • Fixed a very edge case where you could send the Hunter to screw your own game, rather than the opposition's.
  • Fixed an "issue" where you could jump around between the same two bodyguard events indefinitely if you so wanted.  Why would you ever want to do that? No clue, but now you can't.
  • Fixed a purely flavor line saying you let go someone even when you didn't let that someone go.
  • Fixed some Threat icons being weirdly squashed to a fourth of their normal width in Chapter 5.
  • Rebalanced some hunting events.
  • Bonus from successful hunts are now Dignity instead of Woods-wise.
  • Tweaked some Chapter 3 and 4 events so that the player will always Send For a subject before doing subsequent events.
  • You will now (mostly) lose hours when hunting if you fail at events.
  • Being faithful to your advisers no longer punishes you much in terms of Favour; you will lose mostly Dignity and Freedom instead.
  • Changed several flavor lines to be more in line with the original; as such they are now mostly located at the bottom of passages rather than in the middle.
  • Switched around a couple of icons.
  • Cut down some particularly long sentences in a few made-up linking passages.
  • Fixed a bug where bringing hounds to rescue someone didn't really do anything.
  • Added new Tutorial tips.
  • Added separate event descriptions in the Chronicle to ALL Happenstances.
  • Tweaked and added new event descriptions for the Flames of Freedom event chain.
  • HK and Confrontation endings now have unique descriptions in the Chronicle.
  • The Kindly Knight no longer sucks when you send for him.
  • Switched around several lines, including some end-of-chapter ones, to make the wind flow better.
  • You can now find Elfroot in several more events.
  • Counsellor and adviser bonuses have been diversified; none of them grant +3 to just one stat anymore, now it is more... +2 and +1. Does that make sense?
  • Your lovers now grant a smaller bonus to balance it out for the two players - I know one of them, hi Bob - that didn't romance anyone (Bob is a loner).
  • Fixed a bizarre instance in a niche Chapter 7 event where succeeding at it resulted in a dead end (forcing you to rewind and try something else). Like, what the actual fuck.
  • A loop during Chapter 2's hunting is no longer looped. lol
  • I really had killed the last typo back in Update 14, huh? Not really a change but I thought it cool to mention here.

Which African/CAF team do you usually replace Pleasure Horn with?

Bonus question: why is it so damn hard to modify Pleasure Horn? It doesn't even show up on the Edit menu.

[Al-Jazeera] Argentina’s ‘El Loco’ faces Uruguay mutiny ahead of World Cup

Marcelo Bielsa is widely revered as a pioneer of coaching, but his unconventional methods risk ruining Uruguay’s World Cup chances before the tournament has even begun, with rumours of dressing room unrest.

Nicknamed “El Loco”, which means madman, the 70-year-old’s bold, attacking approach has proved an inspiration to a younger generation of coaches, including Pep Guardiola and USA boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Yet, his famously demanding standards have often caused friction during a nomadic coaching career, and his stint in Uruguay has been no exception.

The Argentinian’s arrival initially generated huge excitement, which was fuelled by landmark victories over Brazil and Argentina in qualifying.

But they needed that flying start just to make it through after winning just three of their final 12 qualifiers.

The tipping point for many in the squad came at the Copa America in 2024.

Uruguay finished a creditable third, eliminating Brazil along the way, but Bielsa’s intensity during the monthlong tournament did not endear him to his players.

Luis Suarez hit out at Bielsa’s methods after retiring from international football months later, claiming he had reduced former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez to tears at half-time of a 2-0 win over Argentina, such was the force of his criticism.

Bielsa accepted that after the former Barcelona striker’s backlash, his “authority was affected” with the rest of the dressing room.

Results have also regressed, with Bielsa stating he was “ashamed” by a 5-1 friendly defeat by the USA in November.

Now, as his third World Cup with a third different nation approaches, the question is whether Bielsa can win back the faith of his players for a country so used to punching above its weight on the world stage.

And there are doubts as to how his high-energy style will fare in the gruelling conditions of Miami and Guadalajara, where Uruguay will face Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde and Spain in Group F.

Pochettino hails Bielsa as a ‘genius’

Bielsa made his name winning three league titles in Argentina with Newell’s Old Boys, where the stadium now bears his name, and Velez Sarsfield.

“For me, he’s a person I will always admire,” said Pochettino, whom Bielsa recruited for Newell’s as a 13-year-old.

“He’s a genius. A person with charisma and a personality very different from us, normal coaches, and that’s what makes him special.”

Bielsa’s sides in Bilbao with Athletic Club, where he reached the Europa League and Copa del Rey finals in 2011-12, and Marseille, where he led Ligue 1 at the halfway stage in 2014-15, were also admired but ended up empty-handed as their energy ran out.

In Leeds, murals still bear Bielsa’s face, four years on from his departure, after he led a sleeping giant of English football back to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years in 2020.

His time there ended in familiar fashion with an exhausted squad that was relegated to the second tier the season after he departed.

Yet, the esteem with which he is held for his daring tactical approach endures.

“To be loved is this biggest title, bigger than the Champions League or Premier League or whatever,” said Guardiola, who went to visit Bielsa in Argentina before setting out as a coach at Barcelona.

“To be loved is the most important thing, and I think Marcelo has that more than any other manager in the world.”

Bielsa, who oversaw Argentina’s group-stage elimination in 2002 and Chile’s round-of-16 loss to hosts Brazil in 2014, has already hinted ‌that he may not remain as manager of Uruguay beyond July, saying his job with the team ends with the World Cup.

“Our job ends with the World Cup,” Bielsa said at an event organised by the Uruguayan Football Association last Friday.

Although he did not elaborate on his remarks, local media reported that the Argentinian will not continue once his current contract expires at the end of the June 11-July 19 tournament.

“It is a miracle in any ‌professional’s sporting career to take part in the World Cup,” he said. “I will be forever grateful to Uruguay for allowing me to enjoy a competition like the World Cup.”

Appreciation post to "Truly Ghoulish Transformation"! Now you too can become a ghoul - for free! ;)

I know there is a paid mod that largely attempts the same thing, but this one actually predates it by a few months and most importantly, is completely free.

If you can't access the website, it works by changing the Ghoulish perk:

  • Rank 1 - 50% of radiation taken as healing, and 1 point of radiation damage absorbed per second.
  • Rank 2 - 100% of radiation taken as healing, and 5 points of radiation damage absorbed per second.
  • Rank 3 - 150% of radiation taken as healing, and 10 points of radiation damage absorbed per second.
  • Rank 4 - 200% of radiation taken as healing, and 20 points of radiation damage absorbed per second.

Furthermore:

>At Rank 2, you officially change races into a ghoul. Your skin becomes nasty and wrinkly (you still have your nose and eyes, though.) At Rank 3, your nose falls off and your eyes decay into a random ghoulish tint. Congratulations! You're a ghoul!!! You know what comes with that? People are repulsed by you! As you go through your changes, you will lose 1 to 2 Charisma points. But hey, you're a ghoul! Finally, at Rank 4, feral ghouls no longer attack you.

Works nicely too, do give it a try in your next playthrough!
