La grange.

we want to move to La grange. currently living in the city. we have 2 young kids - so schools are important. we are fed up with CPS budget cuts and overcrowded schools.

what are good neighborhoods to live in with kids? ideally, we want to live ona street with other kids.

thx.

I hope my soon to be 2nd grader will be ok.

my daughter is starting 2nd grade soon. teacher assignments came out today. and most of her friends ended up together in another class (with a popular teacher). my daughter has 2 friends in her assigned class - one that is a very good friend. all 3 are happy to be together. But as a mom, I feel bad for my daughter and worry about her feeling left out. on the other hand, I also think this maybe a good experience for her.

Kids and reading.

hi everyone. I have a 7 yo boy soon starting second grade. he has always loved reading and does a great job of it. he has read the first Harry Potter book and is going through the second one right now. This second book has been what he has been reading all summer (when he reads) which is fine with me.

lately, he has been very anti reading. 'reading is stupid, etc'. All he wants to do is listen to stories on the phone. I told him today that he has to read for 30 mins today, which is doable for him. He responded with reading is dumb, stupid, etc. During his little rant, he stepped on a magazine (I always say that walking on books is a no) and that led to 2 pages being ripped out.

I am frustrated by his behavior. have any of your kids had this attitude before? how did you approach it?

Yellowing leaves.

I have an Alocasia silver dragon that has leaves that are turning yellow now. At the same time, it is growing 2 new leaves. I just got this plant 6 weeks ago. it is still in the original soil. I have not repotted it. I water it once per week and drain out excess water so that it doesn't sit in water. any advice?

Soil help please.

I noticed fuzzy white stuff on the soil of my Alocasia silver dragon. It has at least 1 new leaf that is growing and may be a second leaf. Is this fungus? What is causing it? And what should I do? Thx!

Kids feeling left out.

how do you help your kids with this? my son goes to summer camp, where he has friends but is somewhat an outlier because the other boys are in the same class during the school year...and also because their moms are in the same clique. I see something similar with another girl at the bus drop off, where she is trying to go be with other girls but is feeling left out and crying because the other girls are holding hands, etc.

normally, this girl is strong and kind but it's clear that this situation is hurting her feelings.

these kids are in KG, 1st, and 2nd. and I'm sure this is not the last time this will happen. it breaks my heart for the kids that are excluded.

Travel packing help.

hi everyone. 👋 I'm looking for ways to make my packing more streamlined - for weekend trips and longer travel.

I have my make up (not a whole lot), toiletries, hair brush/comb, hair oil/serum, tech cords, clothes.

what bags do you use? I use a lululemon backpack And am looking for a weekend bag also. When I travel with family, we just use a carry on with packing cubes which keeps everyone's clothes organized.

would love to learn from you.

4 yo and 7 yo siblings always at it.

we have a 4 yo girl and a 7 yo boy. they are always fighting - sometimes play fighting and sometimes arguing/fighting.

they always want to wrestle, kick each other, do karate moves on each other. I can't get them to calm down, which is very overwhelming for me.

the 7 yo calls her names that he learns from others - stupid, idiot, etc. All of it is very bothersome because we don't talk to each other like that.

how can I help them? its sad but they have better behavior when they are doing their own activities.

I need help and advice.

I don't know if this is a me problem or a kid problem. I would love some advice and suggestions.

I have a 4 yo and 7 yo. the 7yo has adhd (getting OT, no meds). they are constantly at each other. The 4 yo is usually fine when alone. Once the 7 yo is up, they are at it - arguiing, calling each other stupie, idiot. When our 7 yo was younger, he didn't talk like this. I'm assuming he learns this at school. And now our 4 yo learns it from him.

our 7 yo also wants to constantly be center of attention. It's almost like it would be an odd day if he didn't some sort of deregulation. For instance, I told my 4 yo 'nice job drawing a picture this morning'. He immediately then gets upset that he hasn't gotten a compliment yet.

I am losing it with both of them. It's very exhausting.

I am open to any advice and parenting lessons.

Belvedere pm bag

how much can fit in the pm bag? I one the size but want to make sure I can fit. I have 2 little kids and like to carry a small cross body or belt bag for my stuff.

I usually carry -

iphone, small LV card holder, hand sanitizer, AirPods, keys, lip balm tube, 2 bandaids, small roll on sunscreen (if it fits).

thanks! tell me what you fit in yours.
