Vegetarian pilaf - what to use?

Hello! Lifelong lamb pilaf enjoyer - going on a camping trip where one of our friends is vegetarian. Any tips for how I can adapt the recipe for their batch to make it taste decent without the meaty char?

Veggie broth? What about protein options? I worry that tofu would be too soft/bland. I do usually add chick peas to the pilaf so there will be some bean protein.

SHT sensor spill - ruined or a near-miss? Can I clean it?

Recently made a lil esp32 box destined to monitor a high humidity plant enclosure. Last night my cat jumped up on the table and knocked over a white claw next to it, found the sensor lying in a small puddle.

Luckily it's in a cage and it's not clear to me if it was spilled directly onto it but it's a little sticky and there was a clear spike in humidity that is now sustained relative to all other readings from this week.

I don't have another device in the house right now to double check its readings, and though cheap it seems to be out of stock on Adafruit.

  1. Would a direct spill have resulted in a 100% RH reading? I'm hoping that the spike to 80% means it was just a near miss
  2. If there is a chance it got juiced, can I rinse it without ruining it? The datasheet doesn't have any details, and google has mixed info, some saying a rinse can permanently screw up readings

Side to side linkage creak with shifts

Any thoughts on what can be causing this? It was grinding earlier but seems to have softened to a squeak (2010 MK6 2.5L 5-speed manual)

ISO gearbox advice/tutorials (binding in reverse, 1st, 5th, grinding)

Hello! I have a stock mk6 2.5L 5-speed manual - recently it was towed, and a week or so after it became extremely hard to shift into 1st & 2nd. This improves with some driving, but recently it also lost reverse (lucky the guy parked downhill from me was in his car!!)

SYMPTOMS:

  • bad binding with the car on & off, unable to get into reverse at all, can only get into 1st after "warming up" the gearbox from driving and downshifting from 2nd
  • 5th gear appears to be 3rd gear now?? Can't find it no matter how far right I search
  • Left-right resistance, reduced side to side movement unless you force it a bit, then it moves but with grinding

Admittedly it has about 250km on it with the original clutch, and the shifts have gotten a little soft but prior to the tow there were 0 binding issues. Did some digging and am holding out hope that this is bushing or linkage related (something I can fix?), not the clutch.

I removed the gear cover for a look but confess I'm not sure what to look for here. What does a healthy gearbox look like? How can I tell if it's a linkage vs bushing thing?

Any links to guides, references or troubleshooting steps would be much appreciated.

Four years ago Mary broke up with John after a year or so of dating - from my understanding John was kind of clingy and he did not take the breakup well. Within a month she made a move and started dating Alan, who was at this time one of John's best friends (gym, gamed, ate together etc).

They all work together, so this caused a great upheaval and John had a hard time dealing with the office environment to the point that he changed offices to another state, got a therapist, etc. During this time I hung out with Mary and Alan, but this tapered off as Mary and I don't get along well.

Alan is a bit socially awkward, but likes a lot of the stuff the rest of our group so he was always a pleasant addition. Alas Mary is not very interested in our off-roading & exploration shenanigans so over time we saw less of him too.

Recently John moved back to state, he has a new GF that shares his interests and has been joining us for camping trips etc. I saw them intersect at a Christmas work party, John got really stiff and icy and flat out ignored Alan, walking away immediately.

Alan has also started reappearing more in our sphere recently without Mary, but this is creating an odd situation where my BF and I feel like we have to choose who to invite to events. A year ago John said that if there's a chance that Alan is attending he will not come to an event.

I don't think that Alan harbors any ill will towards John, but John is clearly still salty. I also don't feel like it's very fair to John's new GF, who had nothing to do with any of the initial drama to tiptoe around this broken heart vitriol from several years ago.

They are both smart, interesting people that I'd love to see in our hangouts, but it feels like John is a bit stuck in the past and not handling this maturely for a 30y.o dude. It also seems like Alan x Mary has been a more stable match so far.

So, WIBTA if I flat out ask both John & Alan if they would be open to, or what it might take to have them exist in the same space again? I'm not advocating for Mary to join in as she doesn't seem interested anyway, but it's exhausting to play hot potato with these two and I'd love to see a resolution.

Just finished this as a lil birthday add-on - any final touches I could add to make it a bit better?
