Is it worth it to book far in advance?

Is it worth it to book far in advance?

How far in advance do you book your cruise? Is a year too far in advance? Have you found the prices go down before the final payment date?

The problem I see with booking so far in advance is that Costco only offers Non refundable deposits, so if I rebook at the lower fare, I lose the deposit. SO, is it even worth it to book so far ahead? What has been your experience? Thoughts? Thank you.

Newbie reaching out to experienced Repatha users

Due to high Calcium score (99% percentile) high lipoprotein A, and bad caridac family history, cardiologist had me add Repatha to my regimen of Rosuvastatin 40, Nexlizet & baby aspirin.

I just did the first injection at 9:30 pm last night, and had a fever of 101 at 11pm. This morning, no fever, no covid, no flu A or flu B, but feel crummy. Does this go away as I do more doses, and body grows more accustomed to the medication? Yes, I am aware different people have different experiences, but what has your experience been?

I know it is recommended to do injection every 14 days. Due to events, like cardio stress echocardiogram on morning of day 15. can I postpone the next injection to the evening of day 15 instead of evening of day 14 instead? I don't think I will be physically up to a stress test the morning after injection...

If planning to be on vacation, and not wanting to feel crummy like this while away, is it allowed to do injection on day 13 or on day 20?

Thank you for sharing your experience. Any tips or advice you have for this 65 year old newbie would be appreciated.

Annual Election Period Question

EDIT: I am in CA with a January birthday.
I just read on Boomer Benefits online that,

  • Your Medigap Open Enrollment period is not the same thing as the Annual Election period in the fall. The Annual Election period has nothing to do with Medigap plans. People can join or leave their Part D drug plan. They can switch from one plan to another. They can do the same with Medicare Advantage plans. The AEP is when you can enroll in or get out of a Medicare Advantage plan.

I am in my first year of Original Medicare and Healthspring Plan G. When Healthspring premiums go up in 2027, does that mean I have no options to go to another company's Plan G without underwriting? Assuming I cannot pass the underwriting, are my choices only 1) pay the higher premium or 2) go to Medical Advantage?

HealthSpring Part G at CVS

In CA. I have Original Medicare, HealthSpring Supplemental Plan G , United Healthcare Part D.

I wanted to use Medicare Part B at CVS for diabetes supplies. It pays 80%.
Expected HealthSpring Part G is to pay the remaining 20%.

CVS said I cannot use the HealthSpring Part G at the pharmacy because there is no Rx number on the ID card.

Has anyone used HealthSpring Part G for the remaining 20% for diabetes supplies?
How were you able to do this with no Rx number on the card?

IRA funds to pay Roth conversion tax?

66 years old. 22/24% federal, 9.3 % state tax brackets. Retired with $1.5MM traditional IRA (tIRA) I understand that optimally, it is better to pay taxes from cash accounts. BUT, is it better to use funds from the tIRA to pay the taxes, or not convert to ROTH at all? If not, 6 figure RMDs and 5 figure IRMAAs in my future. ..

Did I stupidly cost myself more tax and IRMAA?

I think I did something really stupid, and might have cost myself alot of money in taxes and IRMAA. This was a regular investment account, not Roth, not tIRA.

I moved mutual funds from company A to company B. The mutual funds were redeemed from company A and then "rebought" at company B. I did not see any of the money.

At tax time, will I be hit with capital gains? Will this cause an increase in income? I am spinning myself dizzy with this. Thank you for any advice.

EDIT: I had completed paperwork to "Transfer your account to company B."
Company A showed online that they "redeemed" the mutual funds.
Company B showed that the same mutual funds are now in my new account.

I think the word "redeemed" is what set me in a panic.

FINAL EDIT: I just spoke to the Fiancial Advisor from Company B, and she confirmed it was an "In Kind" transfer only. There was no money exchanged, so I am clear.
Looks like I was worried for nothing. Problem was I could not reach FA at the late hour that I posted last evening. Thank you to everyone who took the time to post.

Medicare, plan G, and diabetes 2

As stated in the title, I have Medicare, plan G supplement, and diabetes 2.
I am going to see the endocrinologist for the first time next week.
What can I expect Medicare to cover? Have you had trouble getting diabetes meds or supplies covered?

Told to stop GLp-1 immediately. Now what?

I am a diabetic 2 who has been on metformin for decades. I took Mounjaro for 6 weeks, and was told to stop immediately due to high level lipase (1,033) and amylase (441).

Primary Dr increased metformin to 1000mg 2x/day. Waiting to do CT of abdomen with pancreas protocol in July.

Seeing endocrinologist for the first time next week.

What options should I discuss with endocrinologist?
What should I ask that I don't even know I should ask?

What questions would you ask Dr?

I am new to Mounjaro and have done 6 injections of 2.5mg for diabetes 2. Due to elevated lipase & amylase numbers, Dr's office called, and wants me to STOP injections and go see her tomorrow. I currently do not know what numbers are as Lab Corp does not have tests up on my portal yet. I know Dr will order CT scan tomorrow as she suspects pancreatitis.

I really want to stay on Mounjaro and was looking forward to it helping with weight loss as well as improving diabetes health.

What questions would you ask the Dr tomorrow? Any advice is appreciated.

Pay the Medicare bill?

Started Medicare in January 2026. Monthly Medicare premiums were automatically deducted from bank in 3 month increments...January & March 2026.
Starting Social Security in July 2026. Will Medicare Premium automatically be deducted from SS check or do I need to pay the bill I just received today for July thru September 2026?

Edit: Thank you for the replies. I will follow the advice here and send in payment JUST IN CASE it takes a bit to deduct premiums from SS check. After reading your replies, I feel confident any over payments will be returned to me.

Will the Private Client Service FC do this?

We have an appointment with a FC in Private Client Service. Will the FC actually handle the rollover of traditional IRAs, Roths, and brokerage accounts currently held at another firm?

I don't want to have to reach out to the firm, listen to all the reasons why we should leave accounts at the firm, blah blah blah, but would just prefer Schwab handle it.

Would it cost money to have the FC facilitate these account transfers?

Private Client Services advice

Husband & I have our first appt with a Financial Consultant in Private Client Services.

FC has requested we bring in any and all account statements, list of monthly expenses, etc.

She indicated the goal was to "ensure investments and income can fully support your lifestyle."

What kind of questions should we be asking? We are rather new at all of this and have just been investing in S&P index and letting it ride.
