Throughout the years, there’s been some wild stories about coworkers and substance abuse while on the job. I want hear your stories. I’ll go first…

This really likable guy was an overnight freight associate and a lead in the department. The story is he went into the bathroom and was doing lines of cocaine on top of the toilet paper holder in one of the stalls. He was so high that when he exited the bathroom, he left an 8 ball of coke, his drivers license and a rolled up twenty in the bathroom for anyone to find lol. He wasn’t fired for that though but let go for “attendance”. As reckless as this guy was, he never operated a forklift so they didn’t drug test him when his treasure trove was discovered in the bathroom.

Your turn…

Edit:

And additionally 👇🏼

Not at HD but still at a warehouse…

We had a guy that smoked weed like Snoop but he didn’t drive equipment and did more than his workload so management turned and looked away from him smelling like dank perpetually.

One night, he got busted by some new hires for smoking in his car and our Ops Manager and PA went out to his car to confront him. An hour later, all three came back in with bloodshot eyes and so hella blasted. Instead of confronting and firing Snoop, they went outside and joined him.

It was a wild place to work to say the least.

Have any of you dated customers? I hear a lot about associates hooking up with coworkers, but…

…I want to hear dating stories that involve customers.

Spill the tea…

Edit: I’m not even considering it but I want to hear some stories; either good, bad, crazy or the horror type!

To my fellow full time associates: what is your preferred shift and why?

Openers, Midshifters, Closers and Overnighters…which shift does the time not drag yet your job duties do not destroy you? I want be to hear your pros and cons.

Asking for a friend lol

Edit: added Overnights for inclusivity.

Tell me about your coworkers and the crazy stories of how they drive you insane…

In our store, my coworkers are really awesome for the most part. And I mean that sincerely with the exception of one. I work with this older guy that makes me crazy, like he does nothing and I mean nothing. Management has heard so many complaints about him from everyone and nothing changes. I don’t know how he has a job still tbh. Make me feel better about working with a lazy asshole that leaves all his work for me and share your stories about how your coworkers make you bat shit crazy.

I’ll go first…to add insult to injury of not doing his job, when he walks the aisles slower than molasses in January, he’s crop-dusting. Then he sticks his hand behind him to get a good whiff. When he gets caught doing this, he says never trust a fart.

Your turn.

What’s the wildest Safety Violation…

…that’s gone down at your store?

I’ll go first: This story has been passed down to me from my boss as I wasn’t working at THD at the time but it’s pretty epic.

An associate in plumbing tried to bring a toilet down, while the customer was waiting, on a 9 step ladder. While trying to get it over the railing on the ladder, he lost his grip and brought down three other toilets. Did I mention that the customer was standing at the base of the ladder while these 4 toilets came crashing down? The CXM came over and told the associate to go the office. He was immediately fired.

Okay, your turn…

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or heard of a coworker doing?

I’ll go first: We have a guy who came to work in a tuxedo because he thought the customers would feel more welcome if he was dressed more serious. Management was like no! No! No! No! He was sent home to dress down and he comes back in, get this, wearing a sharkskin suit. Management just let him stay because, well, we were really short staffed.

Edit: I failed to mention that both the Tux and Suit were skin tight. Like maybe they fit him 25 to 35 pounds ago…

What’s the craziest thing a customer has stolen…

…from your store? How ballsy are your shoplifters?

I’ll go first: We have a shoplifter who we call Legend. She wears disguises and alters her appearance, even drives different vehicles. She comes in and almost always has the combos to the Milwaukee cages and has stolen tens of thousands of dollars of equipment. But she also is elusive and hadnt been caught. Well…she made a misstep a few weeks ago and drove a vehicle that LP had previously gotten her plates, so we knew it was her. She went into the bathroom and local PD was called immediately. They swarmed into the bathroom, cuffed and arrested her. It was awesome. As she was perp walked out by PD, associates and some DS and our SASM were chanting “legend, legend, legend”.

Okay, your turn…

Does anyone else’s skin feel extreme tender?

This is under specific conditions though. At bedtime I notice that the skin on my thighs is extremely sensitive. It’s very odd, reminds me of the pins and needles pain from restless leg but only on my skin. It’s very uncomfortable and contributes to my Tirz insomnia.

Anything similar going on with anyone else?

Unusual taste in mouth…

I’ve noticed an unpleasant taste in my mouth since I’ve been on Tirz. I know that one goes through Ketosis and that can cause a different taste in the moth and cause odd smelling breath. Also know of those complaining about a metallic taste in their mouth as well. This seems different to me though. I drink water and it doesn’t go away. I can brush my teeth and nothing really gets rid of it. The only thing that helps is eating a little but it always returns.

Anyone experiencing anything like this?

Has calling the Awareline gotten you results?

I want to hear about your experiences calling the Awareline and what happened subsequently? Did you get the results you wanted? Did you experience retaliation? Did it result in an employee’s termination? Doesn’t have to be first hand experience, just wanting to hear what happens when that course of action is taken.

What are the most hypocritical behaviors…

…that you’ve with witnessed or heard of from leadership?

I’ll go first…ASM fired an associate for being drunk at work. Fair enough. Butttttttttt…three weeks later same ASM was found with flask left in front seat of car for everyone to see. He was sent for a blood alcohol test and failed for being intoxicated at work. He was sent to rehab and still is employed at THD.

Reasons you’ve seen your coworkers fired…

…I’ve seen associates let go for attendance, giving unwarranted discounts, lying about missed punches when they’d leave the store, talking racist to customers and theft but was never able to ascertain those details.

What are reasons you’ve seen your coworkers fired?

Paint Dept Staff question about other Manufacturers’ formulas…

…all of us in dept 24 know that some of those formulas are sus. In one base they workout but another grade of paint they don’t. Or for example the color sample is dead on but when it converts to a gallon it’s wrong. I could go on and on with more examples. How do we report those errors and who do we tell that the system is wrong in OnePaint? I have yet to find anyone that can help me remedy this issue. I’m running into more and more issues and just want to correct the known errors if possible.
