Easy Peasy Anchor the Octopus

This was by far the most difficult project I’ve ever attempted. Easy Peasy yarn and Tulip #7 hook. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

Mini-Mates

Ironman and Silver Surfers board are in another box somewhere. I need to dig through my stashed toys. These were in the same box as the Stikfas.

Stikfas

Bought these back when I worked at TRU in the early 2000’s. Built some but most are still boxed.

Sadly, Jack Jack has been diagnosed with cancer.

We foster Jack. He’s very sweet and silly. You know, a beagle. He has a known kidney issue that we treat with diet and meds. He developed a lump on one of his feet that we had tested. Aggressive carcinoma. Surgery not an option. Palliative care for however long he has. We’ll make sure he’s loved and comfortable for the duration.

Coming right on the heels of Barney the Beagle, it’s a real gut punch. I’m not crying, you’re crying. OK, we’re both crying.

Hug your babies tight.

Jack Jack

My wife did this watercolor painting of our permanent foster Jack Jack. I really love it. He’s helping us cope with the loss of Barney the Beagle.

I can hear this picture (2014)

Barney the Beagle (r) with his girlfriend Hazel in 2014 discussing the finer points of being beagles. They are together over the rainbow bridge.

Woobles to Anchor Update

I decided that making the jump to Loops & Threads chenille yarn from Easy Peasy was too much. As someone suggested in my previous post, I decided to attempt Mini- Anchor in Woobles yarn with a 4 mm hook. Here is my first finished tentacle. I think it turned out OK. It was not easy.

I’ve made a lot of Woobles. Probably close to 100 pieces. I’ve worked with Easy Peasy and Hejin beginners yarn. I’m comfortable with it.

I bought the Anchor pattern bundle a year ago and have been working towards that goal. I bought the pictured yarn to make Mini Anchor first. I’m having trouble working with it though. Seeing stitches. Making stitches that I’ve done with beginners yarn dozens of times. Even a magic ring seems impossible. It’s frustrating instead of relaxing.

So I’m asking for support, tip, tricks and suggestions. What do you experienced crocheters recommend. What are some easier patterns to try first to get comfortable with this type of yarn? Is this even the right yarn to attempt Anchor? For people who have made Anchor; What yarn did you use?

Is it just a skill issue? How do I make the jump from Woobles to more advanced crochet?

Thank you, in advance, for all input and feedback.

Ruby and Barney the Beagle.

Ruby passed in 2023. Barney, two weeks ago.

It still hurts.

I ended up getting the bag I had posted from Amazon. It wasn’t fancy or huge, but it’ll work for my needs. It wasn’t expensive. I don’t plan on traveling so it was really about organizing the chaos of the first picture. I had hoped to go down to just one bag but decided not to stuff the new one full. The old bag has the glitter and rainbow yarns now.

There are also two shopping bags of “extra” yarn in the guest room closet (not pictured). You know, like you have. For the future.

Anyway, thanks for reading this far. Keep Woobling.
