For all we know we may be the first form of sentient life to ever exist in the universe until now.

Who's to say the universe isn't teeming with life already (just unfathomably far away from on distant worlds) but none of it was sentient and capable of higher consciousness until now. Starting with us and the machines we are currently creating, which might be the first form of artificial intelligence to ever exist, as well. So whatever we do moving forward might be exceedingly rare and unique in the grand scope of things. Simply by the novelty of having existed at all in the first place. I don't know. Just something I was thinking about.
