Hoosier National Forrest

Is there a significant number of opportunities or interest among IU students to visit the Hoosier National Forest? When we were considering this university for my daughter, one of the factors that initially caught my attention was the proximity of a large national forest. It seemed like we could easily take a short drive and immerse ourselves in nature, go for a pleasant hike, and return home in the evening. This option provided us with a break from the confines of a college town and the possibility of taking a day trip to Indianapolis. I wasn’t certain if this was an attribute that the university actively promotes. In my opinion, it appears to be a substantial advantage.

2026 infotainment issues connecting

Anyone else having intermittent CarPlay/Bluetooth connection issues with the new 2026 RAV4 infotainment system?

We have 3 mobile phone keys and 2 driver profiles, so I’m wondering if that’s part of the problem. Sometimes my phone connects automatically, sometimes I can manually connect it through settings, and other times it just refuses to connect. It’s getting pretty annoying.

Coming from a Tesla Model Y, this feels way more complicated than it should be. The Tesla connects almost instantly, and on the rare occasion it connects to my wife’s phone/profile instead, it’s basically one quick menu click to switch back to me.

Curious if other 2026 RAV4 owners are experiencing the same thing. Has anyone figured out whether it’s related to multiple phone keys/profiles, or is the new Toyota multimedia system just a little buggy?

Toyota extended warranty

In the past, I used Jerry Johnson to secure a fantastic deal on a no-deductible Toyota Platinum warranty for my hybrid Sienna. The warranty covered 7 years and 120,000 miles. I did use his service. I had the drivers’ seat rails replaced because they were making a snapping sound, and the cost was $1,300 or something, without the warranty. That was a worthwhile investment.

However, I haven’t heard from Jerry Johnson in a while, so I’m not sure if he’s still in business. If anyone knows of reputable sellers of Toyota warranties who offer high volume but low margins, I’d greatly appreciate the information.

By the way, I have the Toyota XSE 2026 Plev.

Indiana vs UIUC

If you had a full ride athletic scholarship to both schools which one would you choose and why? Interested in Business and Kelley and Gies are both highly rated and not super easy to get into. Indiana I think has a beautiful campus but UIUC has a better national ranking and their acceptance rate makes it seem like a far more desirable school.

Any thoughts? I posted this on the IU board to just to see what the other biased group is likely say.

Indiana Kelley (for free) or Michigan Ross

I’m going into my junior year of high school and recently received a full-ride athletic scholarship offer from Indiana. I’m very interested in majoring in business, likely marketing, although I’m still not 100% sure yet.

My grades in high school are very strong, but I’m probably not someone who is going to get a 33+ on the ACT. Realistically, I’d guess more like a 30–31, though you never know.

My question is this: I can keep talking to Michigan coaches and see if a scholarship opportunity develops there, but I don’t want to count on that happening. Is Ross really that much better than Kelley where it would make a material difference career-wise? Or are they close enough that passing up a full ride to Indiana would be hard to justify?
For context, Illinois and Wisconsin may also end up offering athletic scholarship money, but nothing is certain until it actually happens. I know their business schools are generally considered below Kelley, even though the universities overall may rank higher.

Curious how people would think about this from a business/career ROI perspective, especially for marketing or a similar business path.

2026 XSE usb-c questions

On the new xse 2026 I know that the front usb-c are 45w and the backs are 15w. What is the one in the middle console?

Also, as I almost will always plug my phone in to get the wired charging and reduce to lag of wireless CarPlay, I thought I read that center console is the only one that connects to CarPlay, is this accurate? And can a cord fit out the side when the console is closed?

What would you choose

Trying to decide between two black 2026 RAV4s and looking for opinions.

Option 1: RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid XSE
MSRP ~$50,700
Discounted to $48,500
Has a decent number of factory options/add-ons
Comes with 20” wheels

Option 2: RAV4 Hybrid Limited
MSRP and selling price $45,800
Only options are floor mats and head-up display
Comes with 18” wheels

I already have a Tesla charger at home, so charging the Plug-in Hybrid would be easy. My biggest hesitation is the 20” wheels. I live in the Midwest and would have preferred 18” wheels for ride quality, winter performance, potholes, and tire replacement costs.
The price difference is about $2,700.

Which would you choose and why?

Plug in vs non-plug in

I’m replacing our Wrangler with a new driver in our household to share our cars: the Sienna, the Model y, and soon the Rav4 (with a slim chance of getting a Crown Signia).

Now, I’m curious about charging rav4 plug-in hybrid. Does anyone use a standard outlet charger? We have a Level 2 Tesla charger that’s set to charge overnight. While we could charge the Rav4 first and then switch it each night, that might be inconvenient. However, if I use my Tesla standard outlet charger, I could plug the Rav4 into the outlet and let it charge for 6-10 hours, while the Tesla fast charges. (They’re on two different circuits.) Alternatively, I could install a second Tesla charger, but that might be excessive. Finally, I could save money and opt for a the normal hybrid.

What are your thoughts?

Seattle Reign Combine Invite

My daughter got invited to a NWSL Seattle Reign combine around the ECNL playoffs this summer. It says its invite only but my guess is if they are charging $400 it’s not really about identifying talent but rather making a quick buck by telling kids they are on a short list etc.

Anyone else familiar with these? My gut says pass.
