The Book of Abraham

I have been reading about the Church and I find much of it fascinating. The Book of Mormon is impressive. The cosmology, rituals, and spirituality of the Church is intriguing. However, I struggle with the Book of Abraham. I have studied history to a degree level. I concede there is a tendency within the academy to dismiss religion. For example, a historian studying Joseph Smith will look at how environmental and cultural factors influenced Joseph Smith’s religious orientation. Most historians will dismiss anything seen as unnatural such as the alleged appearance of God and Jesus. I tend to be more open minded. I will not uncritically accept stories of the unnatural but I will not dismiss it entirely.
However, the Book of Abraham has problems. If the Book of Abraham came from the creative mind of Joseph Smith then he is, by definition, a fraud. Therefore, the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon is called into question.
Two questions:
How do you account for the Hebrew vocabulary within the Book of Abraham?
How do you account for the Book of Abraham if the surviving Egyptian papyrus fragments bear no relation to what is found in the Book of Abraham?

What do you think of prison officers on hospital escorts?

I’m a prison officer and I’ve escorted many prisoners to hospital. I think there is always going to be tension between us because, to you, the individual is a patient, while to us, he is a prisoner.
I’ve noticed many nurses don’t like it when a prisoner is in handcuffs- there was a polite back and forth conversation where I explained to the nurse, as clearly as I could, that the handcuffs will only be removed when it is medically necessary. On the other hand, I enjoy striking up conversation and flirting with nurses. There is one specific nurse who will always make me a cup of tea when I’m there.

No one tells you how lonely university can be

If any of you are going to university hoping you will find your group, forget it. If you struggle to make friends at high school you will struggle at university.
Most of your days will consist of you being in a lecture theatre, surrounded by people on their phones, giving you blank stares. When you are leaving the lecture theatre you may hear two people talking to each other but they already know each other from outside of university.
I attended lectures and then returned to my dorm room. At night I would walk around the city listening to music.
I joined a sports society- a sport that I was particularly skilled at and won many varsity competitions. I will always remember walking down a street then seeing at the corner of my eye, members of the society in a student house, having a good time, with me outside in the drizzling rain.
Graduation is a milestone. Not for everyone. I didn’t attend graduation. I had know one to be with me. My certificate was delivered in the post.
I don’t have contact with anyone from my university days and have no desire to see any of them again, apart from one girl at the sports society. But I work in the city and she lives in a town far away.

Struggle to eat and drink in front of people

I generally dislike eating in the presence of others. I often eat alone. The exceptions are cafes, restaurants, and family gatherings like Christmas dinner. Regarding dining establishments I like that they are well presented, clean, and have a nice aesthetic. Christmas dinner is similar- the table and kitchen are clean.
There are things that irk me- plastic bottles being placed on the table, people slurping, table being unclean, and the presentation of others.

When I was at a restaurant there was a person at another table who had facial tattoos. I thought it looked disgusting. I had to move the condiments tray so that person was no longer in my line of vision, otherwise I would not have been able to enjoy my evening meal.

I don’t like wrappers and plastic bottles. I usually can drink a can of soda but would struggle with a bottle of soda. On the other hand, bottles of water are ok because I like the blue aesthetic. Concerning wrappers it is a problem I have had since childhood. I refused to eat out of a bag of chips, it had to be poured into a ceramic bowl. My parents and teachers noticed this behaviour. I have vague memories of the event but a healthcare professional came out to assess me. I remember coming home from school and a woman in the living room asking me to play with her. Apparently she offered me sweets from a bag and I at first hesitated but then accepted and subsequently ate the sweets. She said I had autistic traits but not autism. I can eat from a bag of chips I just prefer if they are poured into a ceramic bowl.

I’m really struggling with the monster energy drinks. Although they are cans I absolutely dislike the look of them. They are disgusting. If there is a can of monster in my sight I cannot eat or drink anything. For example, in the office at work someone made me a cup of coffee. A nice white mug with warm black coffee. Then a colleague comes in holding a pink monster can. I had to leave the room.

The reason why I struggle to eat in front of others is because I don’t have control. When I am alone I can control my surroundings.

Any advice would be appreciated. People at work have commented that they rarely see me eat or drink.

Should I stick with slicked back or curtains?

I made a post in another sub called ‘am I ugly?’ Dozens of people commented that I don’t suit a slicked back hairstyle. I know I have a high forehead. I didn’t think that would matter too much. However, apparently the haircut is unflattering. I work in an office and all the men I work with have slicked back haircuts.

The first three photos attached of me having slicked back hair. The next three are me trying to see what I would like look like with curtains. The last picture is my old unruly hair.

Any feedback will be warmly appreciated.

Does my slick back hair look ok? I’m thinking next time I will get the sides trimmed a little more.

I got my a hair cut a month ago. My hair used to always be messy and unruly. I decided to tidy it up a bit so that I would look more presentable in the office. The slick back style was recommended to me- so that is what I went for.
These pictures were taken 8 hours after applying product so the hold isn’t as strong as it usually appears.

▲ 1 r/Pomade

I have a slick back haircut. I use Reuzel clay matte pomade. It provides a medium hold. I like the way my hair looks once applying the clay- it looks natural and not greasy. Someone even commented to me, “your hair must naturally fall back, I wish my hair did that”. However, the effect fades after a couple of hours. I have to keep brushing it back as the hair falls to the side. It looks like I have curtains and people compared the look to Leonardo Dicaprio’s haircut in the 1990s.

I don’t want a greasy and wet look, I want natural and effortless. I want the look of the clay pomade but a stronger hold.
