Why can’t I hear the reverb when I have background music added?

I can’t really hear the vocal effects that my mixer adds when I have background music added, only when there is no background music. If anyone knows what to adjust on my mixer to avoid this it would be appreciated! I want more reverb for this song since the OG has a lot of vocal effects. Feedback is also welcome on this. I probably need to start using some post processing app but it’s nice to hear the effects while singing it live.

I can’t stop mimicking- is that okay for now?

I sing a lot of Lana Del Rey and tend to mimic her a lot just because that’s how I gauge if I have correct placement/ staying on pitch. My friend said I should venture into singing other artists but I find myself just mimicking the original singers placement as seen here in this Evanescence cover.

Would you stop and listen to my voice if it played on shuffle?

This is my creative title to try and get more feedback lol. I actually really like the way I sound here but it didn’t get as much engagement on tiktok as my other covers. Though, it is a really niche song so maybe that is playing a part also. I have note missed here and there but overall I think I did well with pitch

Will this sound good if I can correct the pitchiness?

So the original song during this part is a LOT more breathy, but I want to sing it with a little more support like shown here ( if you’ve heard the original song you know it’s pretty breathy). Immediately I can hear issues with pitch, other than that, do yall hear any other issues? I think the pitchiness is just due to phlegm as I was having to clear my throat between takes. I really like the first “pretty when I cry” then it kinda just goes downhill from there. Please leave any tips & feedback!

Does this sound like my mic needs to be turned up, more reverb, etc?

Just set up this little recording setup and this is my first time playing around with it. Can you tell me if the mic to background volume sounds okay and if you think I need more reverb or anything to make my vocals mesh more with the backing track? Also, any free recording software yall recommend that I can use for layering vocals/ merging different takes? Thanks!

Got a recording set up and it’s SO much easier to pitch match and just tweak my overall sound

I bought an audio mixer, mic, and headphones, + audio interface is on the way. The audio interface isn’t here yet so I can’t actually record the final product yet but just singing with the background music & hearing my vocals at the same time is so awesome. It’s 100x easier to get the sound that I want for a specific song, and when I am off pitch it’s much more obvious than singing without realtime monitoring. (I can hear when I’m off pitch without monitoring but with monitoring it’s like a slap in the face). This is probably a “well DUH” moment but as a beginner I am so happy to continue singing with this setup! No more recording from my iPhone and playing it back to see if I like the way it sounds🙏

Room for improvement?

How can I improve this? I can hear I’m a little flat in some areas but other than that I am open to suggestions!

Good karaoke setup for casual singing?

So I’ve started to post covers on tiktok and have gotten a decent following, and I think it would help if I had a small setup since I usually just post acapella or sing along to music coming from my laptop. This way makes it hard to get the music to singing volume correct. I’m looking at this karaoke machine and wonder if anyone recommends it? (I literally just sing in my closet, right now I don’t have anywhere else to sing so I’m not looking for anything fancy)

Is this good? (Mainly talking about the ahhhhs)

This is the next song I want to work on so please leave any tips you think could make it better

Singing in my closet lol

This is a little pitchy in some areas bc I keep having this stupid phlegm. I swear I keep drinking hella water but it’s just so thick in my throat it messes with my pitch and control

Styling my hair upside down made such a difference! But is it normal for the top to be stiff?

I really like the way my hair turned out when styling it upside down, but I feel like I can’t really do anything to it since it’s crunchy? Like I can’t part it differently because it’ll break up the curls and look stringy. Is that normal? I did scrunch in oil too but the top is like dense to where I can’t move it much.

Routine:

  1. Kevin Murphy hydrate me shampoo and conditioner
  2. Brush hair upside down
  3. Rizzos curl cream applied with praying hands and scrunched slightly (still in the shower)
  4. not your mothers mousse applied with praying hands and scrunched in (still in the shower)
  5. Not you mothers gel applied with praying hands & scrunched (still upside down)
  6. Cotton T shirt to scrunch out excess water then diffused upside down

Am I achieving proper breath support?

So I posted the other day asking if I sounded untrained and most people said yes, with the most obvious critique being bad breath support. So, I’ve been watching videos on proper breathing and air flow and wanted to try an easier song just to see if I am understanding how to properly support my voice. The other song I tried was MUCH higher than this but I wanna start in a comfortable range, make sure I’m supported, then work my way up from there. Please let me know if I am properly supported, or if I start to lack support when going higher! If you notice any other issues feel free to leave your feedback.

How do I know when to press the pedal?

This is my second time playing the piano. I know I’m supposed to have short nails but for now the song I’m learning is fairly simple to where I don’t have to cut them. I just had the pedal pressed the whole time for this clip and am wondering when to press it? The tutorial I watched did not mention it. Are there any songs when the pedal is pressed the whole time or does it always just eventually muddy the sound? (I’m thinking maybe slower songs it’s okay?) Sorry for my lack of knowledge!

**Edit: I know everyone is worried about my flat hands- I only played like that bc of my long nails! It didn’t cause any pain or anything but I know it’s bad technique. I don’t plan on becoming a piano master or anything I just want to be able to play while singing some of my favorite songs, as I’m more into singing. But anyways one of my nails broke today so I’ll be able to practice with better technique going forward.

Edit 2**: Also thank you for the supportive comments and genuine feedback! Y’all are a lot more kind than the r/singing subreddit lol

Routine recommendations?

If I don’t use any mousse my hair dries really frizzy as shown in the first pic. But, when I DO use mousse, after 2 days my hair starts to literally matt up it gets so bad. I’ve started to just use minimal product in my hair because it’s difficult to maintain when it’s style due to this tangling problem.

First pic routine:

  1. Redken acidic bonding shampoo and conditioner
  2. Rizzos curl cream applied with praying hands & scrunched while wet (very small amount)
  3. Cotton t shirt to scrunch excess water then air dried
  4. I do not sleep with a bonnet/ silk pillow case

Second pic routine:

  1. Redken acidic bonding shampoo & conditioner
  2. Rizzos curl cream applied with praying hands and scrunched slightly (still in the shower)
  3. LOTS of not your mothers mousse applied with praying hands and scrunched in (still in the shower)
  4. Cotton T shirt to scrunch out excess water then air dried

Open to shampoo/ conditioner recs also! Preferably protein free and safe for colored hair.

Do I have to sell my soul to get feedback on here or what

All jokes lol. Lmk if you personally use any other resources for feedback on your singing. I also submit to a vocal coach who streams her feedback and reaction & they mainly just say I sound good, but I feel like there’s always room for improvement.
