What do Slakoth, Slaking, Happiny, Chansey, Blissey and Audino all have in common? This is something that is unique only to these six, that no other Pokémon shares with them. As a first hint, this common thread has to do with Gen 5, though it might be applicable in later Generations, if I’m not mistaken
(Edit: I had made a mistake the last time I tried to post this, I forgot Audino also applies here)
I have come up with an idea for an Indigo League where Kanto and Johto have fully integrated their Leagues, having either four or six from each region, depending on whether you want to strictly stick to the rule of eight Gym Leaders. I haven’t come up with the Elite Four yet, so suggestions are welcome, but I do have a Champion in mind: Karen
Players start in Pallet Town, travel up to Pewter City to battle Brock as usual, then make their way to Saffron City (or Cerulean City first if we have 12 Leaders). There, they learn that Sabrina has left her role as Gym Leader, either to become stronger or to pursue a different career, so the Fighting Dojo has become the new Saffron Gym, with Kiyo at its Leader
Once players defeat Kiyo, the Magnet Train becomes available, allowing players to travel to Johto and beat Whitney in Goldenrod City. After that, if there are 12 Leaders, players battle Bugsy, then Falkner, but if not, they skip straight to Morty in Ecruteak City and Jasmine in Olivine City. Next, the S. S. Aqua arrives to take the player to Vermillion City. From there, they defeat Lt. Surge, go along Routes 11-15 to battle Janine in Fuchsia City, then go up Cycling Road back to Saffron (stopping by Celadon to battle Erika if there are 12 Leaders) for another trip on the Magnet Train. Once they arrive in Goldenrod, they make their way to Blackthorn City to battle Clair, then finally travel through New Bark Town to the Indigo League
TL;DR, the new Indigo League in order is:
Brock (Rock)
Misty (Water)
Kiyo (Fighting)
Whitney (Normal)
Bugsy (Bug)
Falkner (Flying)
Morty (Ghost)
Jasmine (Steel)
Lt. Surge (Electric)
Janine (Poison)
Erika (Grass)
Clair (Dragon)
TBD (Psychic)
TBD (Fire)
TBD (Ground)
TBD (Ice)
Karen (Dark)
I don’t mind the baby Pokémon, I think they’re a cool concept as weaker forms of normally strong Pokémon, but not as weaker forms of already weak Pokémon. I think that those Pokémon families (Raichu, Clefable, Wigglytuff and Azumarill) could have instead received new third-stage evolutions (Gorochu, Clefantom, Squigglyruff and Lazumaril, as an example), maybe in Sinnoh. In addition, I think there are other Pokémon who were more deserving of baby Pokémon, like Lapras, Kangaskhan, Skarmory and even shared pre-evo pairs (similar to what Tyrogue was to the Hitmons), namely Pinsir and Heracross, plus Tauros and Miltank
I know that Glaceon and Leafeon were eventually changed to evolve using the Ice Stone and Leaf Stone, but should the same have been done to Espeon and Umbreon? I’ve heard mixed opinions on whether the friendship evolution is a nice addition or a really tedious one, so maybe if they were changed to stone evolutions, namely Sun and Moon, they’d be better received. In fact, all the Eeveelutions could have been changed to stone evolutions:
Vaporeon - Water Stone
Jolteon - Thunder Stone
Flareon - Fire Stone
Espeon - Sun Stone
Umbreon - Moon Stone
Leafeon - Leaf Stone
Glaceon - Ice Stone
Sylveon - Shiny Stone
In Chapter 2 of Trigger Happy Havoc, the motive plays into the fact that everyone has a secret they don’t want revealed. We learn of Makoto’s, Mondo’s, Chihiro’s and Toko’s, but what about the others? Has there been any extra official material to give us clues, like manga? If I were to guess for some of them, they’d be:
“Kiyotaka Ishimaru’s grandfather is a disgraced former prime minister.”
“Yasuhiro Hagakure is in debt to the Kuzuryu Clan.”
“Kyoko Kirigiri wears gloves to hide the scars on her hands.”
“Celestia Ludenberg is really an ordinary girl, Taeko Yasuhiro.”
I know that the Johto starters have been given some flack in the past due to all being single-Typed, but if they were dual-Typed, what would those second Types be? Would they interact with one another as a second chain of effectiveness like in Kalos, Alola, Hisui and Paldea? Would they be like in Sinnoh where each starter has a super-effective move against the other two? Would they use the same Types their Hisuian or Mega forms got (Grass/Fairy, Fire/Ghost, Water/Dragon), or would Meganium get something different due to Fairy not existing?
In the Johto Games, Blue takes over as the Viridian City Gym Leader, but unlike the other Gym Leaders, he doesn’t have a Type specialty, instead having a mixed team. However, similarly to how the other Rivals-turned Gym Leaders became specialists (Cheren’s was Normal, Bede’s was Fairy and Marnie’s was Dark), I think it would have made sense if Blue became a Flying specialist, because Flying is his most common Type used. Heck, if you chose Bulbasaur (which is sometimes considered Red’s canon starter), he ends up with Pidgeot, Gyarados and Charizard, and he swaps out Pidgeot for Aerodactyl in the Let’s Go games (only because Trace stole his Ace). Just add on a Skarmory (since no one else uses one), maybe swap out Charizard for Crobat if you don’t want him to have a starter, and you’ve got a full team of five Flying types for him to use as a Flying specialist. It would also fit with him being the Viridian City Gym Leader, since Giovanni (the original Viridian City Gym Leader) was originally going to be a Flying specialist (that’s why the Earth Badge looks like a feather). This would mean that Falkner would either be replaced with a Ground specialist, or maybe we would have gotten our first Dark Type Gym Leader and we’d get a Ground Type Elite Four
I’ve mentioned in earlier posts about how certain Trainers, games or starters have been given the spotlight more often than their counterparts, like Red in FireRed, Hilbert in Black or Gloria in Sword, so I wanted to see what other people consider to be the “spotlighted” games, protagonists or starters for each region. For me, it’s:
FireRed, Red & Charizard
HeartGold, Ethan & Typhlosion
Emerald/Alpha Sapphire, May & Swampert
Platinum, Dawn & Torterra
Black, Hilbert & Samurott
Black 2, Nate & Emboar
Y, Serena & Delphox
UltraSun, Elio & Incineroar
Sword, Gloria & Inteleon
Legends Arceus, Rei & Hisuian Decidueye
Scarlet, Juliana & Meowscarada
Legends ZA, Paxton & Meganium (subject to change)
I think it would be cool if we had an Elite Four group who specialized in Water, Bug, Steel and Dragon, since those four Types together have no weaknesses (Bug/Steel only has a 4x weakness to Fire, but resists Fairy and Dragon, while Water/Dragon only has weaknesses to Fairy and Dragon; but it 4x resists Fire). As a bonus, I remember seeing a post talking about how cool it would be if the Champion’s six Pokémon were each a type combination of two of the E4’s Pokémon, so for this Champion, they’d get something like Golisopod, Empoleon, Kingdra, Scizor, Archaludon and maybe a new Bug/Dragon Pokémon (finally) as their Ace
I saw this ship trend going around and thought I’d give it a try. For context, if a put a character in their own “Best Ship”, it means I primarily don’t ship them with anyone (as in, I think that character would rather not be with anyone), but that doesn’t stop me from having them as someone else’s best ship. Also, Chihiro’s was a 50/50 between Aoi and Mondo, I just picked Aoi to be different
I’ve thought for a while that some of the cases in Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice don’t really fit together or are in the wrong place, especially because they mostly feel like they’re trying to cram the three different protagonists into the spotlight, so I rearranged the cases in a way that allows for three different entries in the series to allow more breathing room, plus it would actually make the Apollo Justice Trilogy a trilogy about Apollo Justice (meaning yes, I’ve tried to make Ace Attorney 7)
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies
—This would follow the dual perspectives of Apollo and Phoenix as they tackle the new Jurist System Phoenix implemented in the last game, with this being his motivation to get back into law. Athena does not appear in this game, nor do Blackquill or Fulbright. Ema can return as detective, and maybe Eustace from the Investigation games can return as the new prosecutor, having Phoenix’s prodigy facing off against Edgeworth’s
—Case 1: TBD (another courtroom-only intro focusing on Apollo, maybe similar to The Lost Turnabout)
—Case 2: Turnabout Reclaimed (showing Phoenix getting his badge back. The only downside is we don’t get Sasha and Athena interacting, but maybe Sasha becomes a returning character, like Ema did)
—Case 3: The Monstrous Turnabout (focusing on Apollo again)
—Case 4: Turnabout Time Traveler (focusing on Phoenix again)
—Case 5: The Magical Turnabout (what should have been the final case of a game, focuses on both Apollo and Phoenix. This time we finally get Phoenix revealing the truth about Apollo and Trucy)
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice
—Case 1: The Foreign Turnabout
—Case 2: TBD
—Case 3: The Rite of Turnabout
—Case 4: The Elected Turnabout (the first part of Turnabout Revolution)
—Case 5: Turnabout Revolution (the second part of Turnabout Revolution)
Athena Cykes: Ace Attorney
—Case 1: Turnabout Countdown
—Case 2: Turnabout Academy
—Case 3: Turnabout Storyteller (Blackquill would be the prosecutor instead of on the defense bench, but this would be a similar case to Turnabout Serenade where the case directly relates to the prosecution, allowing us to see more of their personality)
—Case 4: The Cosmic Turnabout
—Case 5: Turnabout for Tomorrow
I remember hearing that Recipe for Turnabout was originally designed as the fourth case of Justice for All, with Farewell, My Turnabout being the fifth, but was scrapped due to the limitations of the GBA, eventually being reworked into Trials and Tribulations. Obviously there’d be some major changes made, like Franziska being the prosecutor instead of Godot, and minor tweaks to better fit the main theme of JFA, I’m just wondering if it would be better or worse received if it wasn’t originally scrapped. Maybe we would have gotten a different case for 3-3, like Northward, Turnabout Express from the anime or something
There seems to be a pattern in which Trainers with Eelektross end up being counterparts to Trainers with Chandelure. First was Ingo and Emmet, then Canari and Gwynn. Shauntal is a pretty prominent Chandelure user, but does she have an Eelektross counterpart? I think so, in the form of Cynthia. She uses an Eelektross in her Black & White battle (meaning Game Freak decided to give her two different Pokémon with no weaknesses and still managed to avoid her repeating a Type), and she’s staying at Caitlin’s villa, which both Caitlin and Shauntal frequent. It also makes sense, given that both are notorious for being very difficult to battle
I know that in most games, there isn’t really a canon protagonist, starter or version between the pairs (I say pairs because in most cases, the third version is meant to be the definitive one), but I think Galar specifically really went all in on making one version more canon than the other, namely having Gloria be the protagonist of Sword, picking Sobble as her starter
For Gloria, she was introduced to Masters EX quite some time before Victor, she and Hop were given the two legendary dogs, and is generally seen more often when a protagonist is needed for the Galar games
For Sobble, it would first make sense that Grookey isn’t the starter choice, because then Leon would have a repeat Fire-Type starter. However, even if that’s not enough, Masters EX gave her Sobble first, and when she got Cinderace later, it’s stated to be from an Egg she received from Hop, meaning Scorbunny was his starter. This works out, because it meant he picked the starter weak to Gloria’s (Sobble). Plus, in the “A Galarian Nice to Meet You” event, Victor had Grookey, Hop had Scorbunny and Gloria had Sobble
For Sword, Gloria was given Zacian in Masters EX, while Hop was given Zamazenta. Next, while the Stow-on-Side Stadium changes from being owned by Bea in Sword and Allister in Shield, in the anime, Bea owns the stadium while Allister has his own Minor Gym. A little stretchier argument is that when Gordie battled Melony for control of the Circhester Stadium, it makes sense his Rock Pokémon would have an advantage over her Ice (plus it just makes more sense thematically that he won the battle and was able to do his own thing). Then there’s the DLC, specifically Isle of Armor. Since Isle of Armor can be played alongside the main game, I’m taking all of the main game into consideration. Both DLC rivals start out with Galarian Slowbro as their Ace, but then Avery switches over to using Galarian Slowking after the player completes the Galarian Star Tournament, while Klara always has Galarian Slowbro as her Ace. Avery also conflicts with Bede if played alongside the main story, as both are Psychic specialists until Bede is taken under Opal’s wing (Klara also works better than Avery just by nature of giving the player an even gender balance of rivals overall)
I found it pretty cool that the Unova Elite Four forms a loop of Type effectiveness, as does the BB League (sort of, they form a chain of effectiveness, then Dragon loops back to resist Fire). They even have it so types not next to each other in the chain still interact (Ghost is immune to Fighting, Dark is strong against and immune to Psychic, Fire resists Fairy, Steel resists Dragon). I wanted to try and expand this to eight Types for Gym Leaders, and I found two chains that work really well:
Bug, Dark, Ghost, Psychic, Poison, Fairy, Fighting Steel
Fire, Ice, Flying, Bug, Grass, Water, Ground, Rock
They don’t necessarily have to be in this order, since the Unova Elite Four wasn’t either, I just wanted to order them like that to show the chain of effectiveness. I personally like the first one more, since those types have so many interactions with each other (the chain even kinda loops back with Steel resisting Bug), but I think the second one is cool just because of how many triangles of effectiveness are hidden within that group. I wanted to put these both out there to see which would be seen as the better Gym Leader group
I am once again trying to come up with a timeline for the Pokémon games, this time with new information. Feedback is appreciated
The Gen I games take place in 1996, and the Gen II games take place three years later in 1999
Given that the Gen IV & V games all have a Wii in the player’s house, they must all take place in 2006 or later
The Gen III games take place three years before the Gen IV games because Johto is 3 years after Kanto
BW must take place at least 6 years after Platinum because Caitlin is 14 in Platinum and in her 20’s in BW
B2W2 takes place 2 years after BW, and XY takes place at around the same time
ORAS takes place in 2012 or later due to there being a Wii U in the player’s room
The Alola games take place 2 years after B2W2 thanks to Grimsley’s concept art, and USUM must take place no later than 2017 because there’s a Switch in the player’s room. This 2017 cap also applies to the Let’s Go games, SwSh and BDSP, since they also have Switches
SV must take place no later than 2021 because there’s a Switch OLED in the player’s room
ZA takes place 5 years after XY, and likely after SwSh, because Leon is referred to as a former Champion
I saw some videos of people coming up with new Types for the original 251, so I thought I’d give it a try. I know some of these might be pretty “the sky is blue”-level takes, but feedback is still welcome
Blastoise: Water/Steel - This is mainly due to the cannons on its back. Also makes for an interesting dynamic with Venusaur, since it’s now immune to one of Venusaur’s STAB attacks
Sandslash & Arbok: Ground/Steel & Poison/Dark - I’ve heard a lot of people say Arbok should have been a Dark-Type Pokémon, but I think Sandslash should have also gotten the Steel Type. I think it would have been a nice touch to have these two counterparts each gain one of the new Types introduced in Gen 2 to show them off. Plus, Alolan Sandslash is Ice/Steel, so Kantonian Sandslash could get the Type, too
Parasect: Bug/Ghost - The parasites have taken over the bug’s body, it’s basically a zombie, that sounds pretty Ghost-like to me. Plus it would give Agatha another Ghost to use on her team, most likely as her setup Pokémon, so she’s not confused for another Poison specialist
Hypno: Psychic/Dark - Pretty self-explanatory, it’s a pretty malevolent Pokémon, if you look at its Dex entries
Pinsir: Bug/Fighting - It would pair nicely with Heracross (even better with a shared pre-evo, if you ask me), and its Dex entries talk about its aggressive nature
Ninetales: Fire/Ghost - It’s said to live for 1,000 years, is the reincarnation of 9 saints, and puts curses on those who touch its tails. Seems like a solid pick for the Ghost Type (and again, it would give Agatha the option to use actual Ghost-Types on her team)
Golduck: Water/Psychic - This is another pretty self-explanatory case, this evolution line is all about having psychic powers
Marowak: Ground/Ghost - Cubone’s whole thing is that it wears the skull of its dead mother. That, plus the Pokémon Tower mission heavily associate Marowak with the dead
Aerodactyl: Rock/Dragon - If you look at this fossil’s description in the Pewter Museum, it’s stated to be the fossil of a dragon. Plus, Lance uses it, and it would again give him some more diverse Dragon-Type Pokémon that he sorely needs
