Why do AP refuse to adapt to any new advice/beliefs
My mom has been diagnosed as a pre-diabetic, and I thought I’d help her by pre-freezing our rice to reduce the starch + prevent sudden sugar spikes. I was doing this as a gesture for her health, and it would benefit my dad too as he’s a type 2 diabetic. I explained the process to them, and have begun cooking up big batches of rice + freezing it afterwards. However, my parents do not believe in freezing fresh rice, as they think food should always be made + eaten fresh, and freezing anything ruins it. So every time when I pack the rice for freezing, my mom gets angry and bickers at me for “abiding by science too much,” and people like me who make lifestyle decisions off scientific facts “live miserable lives.” Every time when I start talking about lifestyle choices that have strong evidence of improving your well-being (ex: eating more plants and fiber for gut health) or for the betterment of the planet (ex: eating less red meat), they roll their eyes in anger of me “mansplaining my scientific knowledge.” I find it funny because I could say the same thing about the Chinese eating habits that they follow based off TCM beliefs, isn’t it “exhausting” to restrict certain foods during different seasons, and to eat specific things if you’re on your period?? I’m being sarcastic ofc lol. Whatever the case, they just aren’t willing to listen to any new beliefs, even if it benefits them. I guess I understand that you don’t want to make new lifestyle changes in your 50s, so now I don’t bother giving any advice that could help them because I know they won’t listen to it.
