Kobe - worth a visit

Staying in Osaka for a few days next month. We were wondering is it worthwhile doing a day trip to Kobe? We want to have a Kobe beef meal but can you just get that meal in Osaka or Kyoto without the need to travel to Kobe. Is there really anything else extra special in Kobe that is a must see.
Thanks for any advice

Express Pass to Universal Studios

Hi everyone, I hope you can help me. I have now for several days struggled with ordering Universal Express Pass 5. When I select this pass and proceed to select number of tickets and admission date all the dates are grey and I can not select anything? Does it really mean that all the dates are sold out? And it also looks like that I can only select max 4 passes, even though we need 6 passes. What am I doing wrong here? Can anyone help? We would like to visit the park on 7th October.
Thank you in advance

[Osaka] Super chill English teaching side job (no experience needed)

Hey! I’m looking for someone in Osaka who wants a small, low-pressure side job teaching English to kids and some adults.

📍 Location: ~20–25 mins from Namba - Higashi-Osaka
💴 Pay: Minimum wage (transport covered)
⏰ Hours: Part-time Tuesday Afternoons

What it’s like:

  • Relaxed classes (nothing intense or corporate)
  • Small groups, friendly students
  • Mostly simple conversation + basic English
  • You don’t need to be a “professional teacher”

Good fit if you:

  • Are already in Japan (Osaka area)
  • Want a bit of extra income without stress
  • Don’t mind something simple and easy

Nice bonus:

  • Super easy work compared to most eikaiwa jobs
  • Good environment (not strict or draining)
  • Can fit around your schedule

If you’re interested, just DM me a bit about yourself, where you are, how long you're here, what visa you're on, etc 👍

Good Larger Roomed/Western style Hotels near Shinsaibashi?

Hello everyone, I have to be in Osaka for a week for minor surgery and I am looking for hotels that have at least bigger rooms then the standard business hotels I usually stay in. Usually I would just stay in a business hotel but considering i'll be there for a week and i'll be recovering from the surgery I don't want to stay in those small rooms. I would prefer somewhere next to Shinsaibashi station, but if need be Namba or Hommachi would be ok. The surgery is next month so it is a bit of a last minute booking, but i'm hoping to find something not too too expensive probably around 150k yen max for the stay.

Looking for practice "customers" for a test run of an Umeda underground anime, manga, game character/merch tour (Aug 19, free)

Hey everyone,

You may have seen our survey. We're planning an anime, manga, game character merch tour of the Umeda underground.

If you’ve ever tried finding specific character or merch shops around Umeda Station, you probably know how confusing the underground tunnels can be. GPS usually drops, signs get overwhelming, and it's easy to get lost between all the basement levels and department stores.

To help people navigate it all—and to stay out of the summer heat—we’ve put together an indoor walking route through the main merch spots in Umeda.

The idea behind the tour is simple: instead of spending an hour in every shop, we walk the route together, show you where everything is located, and hand out maps so you can easily find your way back to your favorite spots later on your own.

We cover character shops at Daimaru (Nintendo, Pokémon, Capcom, One Piece), spots in Hankyu Sanbangai (Kiddy Land, Chiikawa, Ghibli), HEP FIVE, Yodobashi Hobby, and the secondhand/thrifting areas nearby in Chayamachi.

We have the route planned, but we haven't run it with actual people yet. We’re looking for a small group of practice "customers" to join us for a free live rehearsal on Wednesday, August 19th.

A few things to know before joining:

  • It's a test run: Expect a few pauses, guide calibration moments, and maybe even a wrong turn or two while we dial in the timing and pacing.
  • It's low-key and casual: We are just a group of fans who love anime, manga, gaming, and character culture, and want to help people get oriented.
  • What you get: You'll get familiar with Umeda's shop layout without having to walk in the heat, and leave with a clear physical map and understanding of where everything is.

How to join:

If you're in Osaka on August 19th (whether you're visiting or living here) and want to join the walk, please fill out this quick RSVP form: https://forms.gle/YABpC9eL2zaCaDt57 or drop a comment below!

We'll meet in Front of the BigMan screen in the Hankyu Umeda station next to Kinokunia at 10:00. We'll hit two major hubs where shops collect together, have a bite to eat in a free chill-out space, and then hit the hub with the most high priority shops.

(If you're traveling and find yourself on August 18th deciding you'd rather spend the next day inside away from the heat, check back on this post! If we still have open spots, you're welcome to jump in last-minute.)

Osaka tour guide Help

Hello everybody, Nice to meet you.

Im going this October to Japan, alone travel, and i want to do some activities, one of the is a tour guide in osaka and tokyo. The problem is that I'm only finding private ones. Isn't there like public group ones to meet young people and tour around food 😁, its hard finding i don't mind paying 100, but since those are tours made from groups its like 60 per person and a mim of 3, wich im not. What other options do i have? Thank youu

Lost compact camera-Nara park Aug 18

I lost a white Nikon compact camera at Nara Park around 5:00–5:30 PM on August 18. I believe I left it on a park bench near the entrance to the park restroom.

My family went back about two hours later to look for it, but unfortunately it was gone. I have already filed a report with the police, but I wanted to make one more attempt to find it by posting here.
The camera contains many precious photos and memories from our family’s trip to Japan. Honestly, I would even be grateful just to get the memory card back so I can recover the photos. The camera can be replaced, but those memories and moments cannot.

I truly hope that a kind person found it and handed it in to the police station. If you saw the camera or have any information at all, please contact me. I would really appreciate it.

Thank you so much for your help! 🙏

Renting an apartment in Osaka as a foreigner for four by six months?

I’m from Europe and would like to rent an apartment in Osaka for four to six months. What would be the best way to go about it? Can anyone recommend reliable rental agencies? I’ve heard bad things about rental agencies in Tokyo.

Edit: As an european (EU) on a tourist Visa I can stay up to 180 days per year in Japan (I think). Therefore I would think, I need an agency for renting. An alternative may be Airbnb. Question: do you know reliable alternatives for Airbnb?

Edit 2: It is just meant as an extendent vacation. I don't want to work and I am not a 'Digital nomad'

How to reserve airport transfer from Kobe Airport to Namba-Osaka area?

How to reserve airport transfer from Kobe Airport to Namba-Osaka area? As said, arriving at Kobe on a Friday at 6pm, accommodations are near Namba-Osaka for family of 4 with luggages. Hesitant to use trains at that time, although I've heard taxis are very expensive.

Is diagonal lane crossing legal in Osaka?

Hi guys, after coming out of a side street onto a multi-lane one-way road in Osaka, can I slowly cross all lanes diagonally to reach the far-right turning lane?

If the distance to the next right turn is too short, should I just go straight and let GPS reroute around the block? Thanks!

Where to find Hoshinoen's matcha daifuku "chacha ippuku?"

Edit: I found out where it was with the help of Google Maps' Timeline feature and someone's photo of the in-store display. It's at Little Osaka Omiyage Market inside Glico-ya Ekimo Namba: https://maps.app.goo.gl/7KAAa1gLcgVufHDX6.

I found these in a shop underneath Osaka-Umeda station back in 2023, but I don't remember what the shop was called. They originate from Fukuoka, and are kept frozen. Has anyone run into these in any other shops? I'd love to eat these again on my next visit to Japan.

Budget hotel for short business trip in Osaka

Hi! I’m visiting Osaka for a conference late this year. The trip will be from November 25-28, planning to have a late night return flight on Nov 28.

Could you suggest a budget hotel near Umeda and the Grand Cube Osaka? Around 9000 yen a night, as this is the only budget I could have. Preferably, it allows late check-in since the return flight is around 9 PM and common check-out time is 10 AM (no problem with additional fee for the extension)

Going to Osaka Japan October 15-31. What are some "must visit" places or things to do in the area?

Hey all,

Not sure if this is the right subreddit to be posting this to so please let me know if I should be asking this somewhere else.

Just like the title says, I will be traveling to Osaka this coming October 15-31st. I plan on visiting Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, and Nara during this time. Was wondering what you guys experienced(or wanted to but didnt get a chance to or didnt know about prior) that you would recommend to someone visiting for the first time. I dont currently have any budget in mind and am pretty flexible with that.

Some of the bigger areas will be Osaka Aquarium, Universal Studios, Dotonbori, Tenjinbashi Street, Higashima Ward Kyoto, Nara Park, and Kobe. I have some restaurants marked out and some temples as well.

I am looking for some places that have great quality kitchen knives, wagyu beef to bring back to the US, any japan exclusive items that I can use in everyday life, must-try food places, any local events going on during this time of year, and cool hidden gems that preserve the traditions and culture of Japan.

This will be my second time traveling to Japan. The first time was last year where I stayed in Tokyo. I am familiar with basic phrases, etiquette, and navigating the train system.

Also feel free to add if you have any tips or how things may be different in Osaka compared to Tokyo! Im really excited and am open to try anything that Japan has to offer.
