Experience with Solar a2.7c ?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently looking into getting a Solar 7-string, most likely the A2.7C, and I’d love to hear some real world experiences from people who actually own or have played Solar guitars for a while.

A few things I’m especially curious about:

\- How well are Solar guitars usually set up out of the box?

Were yours playable immediately after delivery, or did they need fretwork/truss rod/action adjustments first?

\- Would you recommend ordering directly from Solar, or buying through a retailer like Thomann in Germany instead?

I’m mainly wondering about QC, customer support, returns, shipping experience, etc.

\- Does anyone here have experience with the neck of the A2.7C while having relatively small hands / shorter fingers?

\- How does the neck of the A2.7C compare to modern Ibanez 7-string necks?

Especially compared to Iron Label / Wizard-style necks.

Does the Solar feel chunkier, rounder, more natural, more comfortable for rhythm playing, etc.?

I mostly play modern metal / atmospheric death-doom / blackened stuff in Drop A, so clarity and comfort matter more to me than ultra-shred speed.

Would really appreciate honest experiences, both good and bad.

Looking for mix critique on low tuned atmospheric metal track

Hey everyone,

I’m currently working on an original instrumental track somewhere between melodic death metal, and atmospheric black metal, and I’d really appreciate some honest mixing feedback from outside ears.

The song is still very much work in progress and not finished yet. Vocals are not planned for now. At the moment I mainly want the instrumental side to stand on its own.

Current arrangement:

2 hard panned rhythm guitars (Amplitube 5)

2 additional lead guitars panned more inward for atmosphere and melodies. (Amplitube 5)

Bass Guitar split into low/high tracks (Amplitube 5)

EZDrummer drums (metal mania)

some synths/samples, clean guitars

The guitars are tuned low (Drop A) and the overall mix is intentionally heavy and dense. That’s also where I currently feel the main issue is. The mix sounds big and wide to me, but I feel like it still lacks some clarity and separation between instruments.

Things I’d especially like feedback on:

Do the instruments feel separated enough?

Is the bass understandable or too muddy?

Are the guitars too dominant?

How does the stereo width and depth feel?

Where does the mix lose definition or dynamics?

Feel free to be brutally honest. I’m mainly trying to improve my understanding of how to make dense metal mixes sound both massive and clear at the same time.

My (old) Jackson RRMG Pro Series

I just wanted to show you my beloved Jackson RRMG Pro Series. I bought the guitar in 2013 and it's still my favorite guitar.

I've now adjusted the guitar so that it can be played in Drop A tuning. However, the Floyd Rose tremolo reaches its limits here, as it's no longer possible to properly adjust the intonation of the low A string. Nevertheless, I love this guitar, and it's no coincidence that it's been with me for 13 years.

Kennt vermutlich jeder:

▲ 1 r/Bass

Hey everyone, I recently got a new bass for home recording. I mainly play guitar. I'm recording my own material and I'm currently having some issues with string buzz on the bass, specifically the low A (drop A tuning). It came with .125 gauge strings, which I've now switched to .135. Unfortunately, it's still buzzing. The neck relief and string spacing seem fine after a quick check. What gauge strings do you use for drop A? Would .135 tapered strings make sense?
