Reminder that 11 year old Ben aliens all had green eyes
If you eat uranium would you fart like Godzilla?
The only male in a female only species
Ganondorf dragmire, the only male gerudo (the legend of Zelda)
Steven DeMayo Universe, the only male Gen (Steven universe)
Something is happening to the moon
Dr who: the moon is a egg, and is hatching (at the end they just lay another egg)
Sonic adventure 2: Eggman fucking blew up the moon.
amphibia: the moon is a giant roboticized war machine.
[weird trope] actual gore in kids media
Gross out scenes (SpongeBob square pants): some of the examples on the image aren’t as graphic and im sure I’ll see the roller coaster gif in the comments… but some of this are flat out gore with highly detailed organs.
zero two (Kirby and the Crystal shards): while the game and later depictions show the character having crystal shaped wings, in the concept art we clearly see zero two’s wings being exposed veins while he cries blood (he still drops blood during the boss fight but is less noticeable due to the game’s limitations)
Insane lore drop that has nothing to do with the plot
Five nights at Freddy’s security breach: canonically bears are extinct in fnaf, and despite the supernatural activities that happen in Fazbear entertainment this was something that as far as we know is completely unrelated to any of the supernatural in The main plot, bears just went extinct while William killed children.
team fortress 2: abraham Lincoln created stairs died trying to rocket jump on them (rocket jumping was how people moved before stairs were invented) which is completely unrelated to the main story, however Abraham Lincoln was the pyro of the previous previous team fortress but that’s completely unrelated to how he died.
honorable mention- also from TF2: Amelia Earhart owned a hot dog suit and was wearing it when she died by crash landing in Russia.
The character becomes stronger as the fight goes on
hulk (marvel) the angrier you make him by fighting him the stronger he becomes, to the point he can move someone with the power of being unmovable (so yes, he can lift your mom if given enough time)
Lung (worm) Lung’s power allows him to become stronger over the course of a fight, first he gets metallic scales and dragon/feline traits, then he grows larger and becomes more draconic with pyrokinesis, then he becomes larger with more wings, and so on (according to WoG there isn’t a limit to this, if I’m not wrong the only limit is if he believes he can win which is why his power fails him fighting bigger threats like the leviathan. So there’s a chance he would be unable to lift your mom)
The icon of sin (DOOM) the longer the icon of sin is on earth the stronger it becomes (your mom)
I feel the problem isn’t Steven forgiving but White Diamond accepting it [steven universe]
I was watching Kung fu panda 2 and I got to the final fight, amazing scene that is absolutely beautiful. then I got to the part where Po offers Shen forgiveness which made me wonder ”Why don’t people slander Po like they do Steven when Shen has done far worse to Po than anything white diamond ever did to steven personally?”
Then I got my answer with Shen refusing to take the chance to change and instead tried to slit the panda’s throat, and that’s because Shen was consistently characterized throughout the movie as someone selfish, entitled and overall a monster who doesn’t help anyone but himself.
And white diamond in her few scenes up to that point was shown to be no different to that, except Shen had far more humanizing moments like him thinking that his parents hated him or him letting the fortune teller go. But he did utterly horrible crimes no one should be forgiven for since no one would logically be easy to change after trying to commit a literal genocide, which is what happen with white Diamond.
While the genocide aspect is arguable (they did want to turn all planets into colonies for the gempire which would entail the destruction of all organic life, sapient or not) the gem empire did do horrible stuff like executing off colors, making the cluster with its small variants to accompany, and let’s not even talk about them crushing gems so throughly they used the remains to make paintings!
So white diamond changing feels unbelievable since we never get to meet her beyond her absolutely horrid aspects, we don’t know if she actually cares about the other diamonds (the way they’re so scared of her and the way she just takes their free will shows she didn’t) we don’t know if she cares about the gems beyond ways to enlarge herself (her casual executions due to freedom of expression makes clear she doesn’t) and we don’t even see her humanized until Steven roasts her!
And if this was any other show it would be somewhat forgivable, but this is Steven’s universe! When the characters did something wrong they didn’t react in such a cartoonish way (garnet being lied so she and pearl could use lasted multiple episodes because she had a realistic reaction to being manipulated) and the show has shown several unrepentant villains who had to reach metaphorical death before changing.
But the boss of all those villains who is literally the sole reason they are that way due to being the only one who keeps pushing this system fell like a jenga tower!
The problem isn’t that Steven wanted to change white diamond’s mind, is that it was so freaking rush on all aspects to the point it felt… cartoonish, the very show tried its best to show things don’t work like that only for it to work that way when it matters the most!
I know what some of you may say, the usual the straw man argument of the detractors wanting a brutal execution in a kids show.
When people really want some amount of Justice for their crimes. Or even their crimes to get acknowledged other then they hurted Pink, but I want is for her change of mind to not be so… rushed.
You can totally punish characters in children’s shows. Ozai was thrown in jail and metaphorically and literally depowered Because the story made clear he was a Abusive, selfish, power hungry, maniacal monster who kickstarted everything and won’t stop because he gets a sudden change of mind at the end considering the show never portrays him as anything but pure evil besides his twisted relationship with azula which arguably makes him eviler.
I know most of this problems are because the show was rushed due to Rebecca wanting to do the gay wedding (she was told that she would get cancelled two season earlier if she did the gay wedding and she choose to do the wedding AND do it in a very important episode so it couldn’t be skipped) and that she probably would have laid the seeds of White’s redemption better if she had the time to do so, but im trying to see the show as the story is presented and not as the behind the scene problems or what could have been.
and as is the biggest problem is that the VERY rushed finale feels like the more serious and mature tone of the show was changed for a more emotional and lecturing one that completely changes the feel of the story.
Steven winning didn’t feel like the same of a new age and a victory for the universe, but like the end of a lazy town episode where Robbie rotten is convinced to attend to a birthday party instead of doing evil, so the story feels a lot more childish and ridiculous.
[Hated trope] Sequel bait that never gets a sequel
amazing spider-man 2: it hinted at the third movie having the sinister six, but we not only never got this third part but we don’t see Andrew Garfield’s spider-man again until no way home (2014 to 2021, 7 years later)
Black Adam: it promised a confrontation between black Adam and Superman, with the marketing for the movie promising the old DCEU would continue with the Henry cavil Superman. that didn’t happen.
Bondi band: The heroes lose their powers at the end of the series after the villainess uses all her remaining power for one last ditch monster since the heroe’s mentor escaped from his prison. But a Diabolus ex machina in the form of another energy source falls on the villain’s lawn (literally) ending on a cliffhanger of the heroes having to find a Way to get their piers back and fight against the villainess once more… the show ended in 2012 With only one season.
godzilla singular point: the ending hinted at the introduction of a Mecha Godzilla Kiryu made out of the bones of the prior Godzilla who’ll fight the next calamity and by proxy the next incarnation of Godzilla/the entity.
Loved aspects of widely hated media
megamind rules! (The series not the movie) the sequel movie and series are amazing examples of bad continuations but most people agree the intro for the series has a great song that is far better than the series that follows.
no seriously give it a watch It’s miles better than the show (edit: since some guy misunderstood, i meant got give a try TO THE SONG. The link leads to an AMV, don't watch the show)
high guardian spice (crunchy roll show) a show that bounces between mediocrity and insufferable, the same applies to the main 4 characters who are either tolerable or the worse part of the show! However the redeemed bullies are undeniably the best part of the show. Amaryllis and Snapdragon have a genuinely healthy relationship with personalities that bounce off each other and have character development while being enjoyable to watch instead of insufferable.
it feels like whoever wrote this two was someone that wasn’t part of the main writing team due to the fact that they are a lot more enjoyable and likable than the main cast.
Excuse me Ben (by alezx202 on instagram)
Im just wondering, does Toho own any of the original western Kaijus?
Zilla and Godzilla (1998) are still 2 different characters when it comes to licensing but Toho already owned the rights for it and just waited for tristar’s to expire to basically make a new monster with the same design. But I would assume legendary, and to the extent Warner Bros, owns the non-toho kaiju.
but like, they were made for a Godzilla movie with their story and designs connected to Godzilla itself but I know companies will sometimes latch into liked characters made in collaborations just to squeeze money from their current business partner if they want to use the characters despite not being able to make profit on them without collaborating since most are side characters at best, do we have any confirmation Tristar kept the monsters instead of them being handed to Tojo? Genuine question.
and that’s why I’m wondering how many Kaijus we might not see as much because they are owned by companies other than Toho like the Godzilla: the series mutants (komodathrix, el gusano, crustaceous rex) or the monsterverse Kaijus (Shimo, Scylla, the Mutos) or the Videogame monsters (Obsidius, Krystalak, etc)
Like ”the series“ Kaijus were created under license of tristar television (which is now part of Sony Pictures Television) for the 1998 animated series, but Tristar can’t even use the Godzilla IP anymore so I’m curious what the hell happen To them.
However some of the monsters like Krystalak have a “Trademark icon“ like all other monsters owned by toho, and I know the trademarks icons are mostly defunct nowadays but I find weird he got one despite being a Western kaiju made by Atari. I wonder if Toho‘s contract with Atari made it so they kept the rights for all original characters and I wonder if this was done with any of the aforementioned.
I think there’s a chance some are owned by Toho (like the “Godzilla: the series” monsters due to Komodithrax and Hell-Shell being in it as plied) since Kaijus that are just as obscure (Krystalak, Kamoebas, Ganimes, etc) are known to be owned by Toho but just don’t get anything, not because there was any legal issue but because they are just so obscure Toho doesn’t see them as worth bringing back.
like there being levels to relevancy for the monsters with like “the main monsters“ (Godzilla, Mothra, MechaGodzilla, King Ghidorah, Rodan, etc) then the recurring monsters in side media (Biollant, jet jaguar, Megalon, Hedorah, etc) then the ones that barely appear but have a niche (Gorosaurus, Kumonga, Titanosaurus, Ebirah, etc) then the monsters that are so obscure and niche that Toho could bring back but doesn’t outside of very small cameos (Krystalak, Kamoebas, Ganimes, etc) and then the ones that are so obscure they get nothing.
it’s probably not that complex, is very likely that Toho said “we don’t want any of Zilla’s friends, you can keep them” while Toho just didn’t see buying this other monsters as worth it and we’ll never see them again after their debuts outside of subtle references but at least I wasted my time writing this post.
I always wondered what was the Japanese’s opinion on “Godzilla: the series” and its original Kaijus.
Im asking because I know that the series is universally more loved and praised than the movie, but I always wondered if this feeling was shared by the Japanese.
I know they’re aware of it, with Godzilla singular point even having cameos of them. In Episode 6 you can see plushies of Junior, Komodithrax and… the Turtle (I remember hearing it being referred to as Hell-Shell but I can’t recall where I heard that)
So I’m curious if their opinion on Zilla changed due to the son being closer to the actual Godzilla both powers and story wise.
