Looking for tips to avoid contaminating disc brakes while degreasing drivetrain

I usually degrease my chain and cassette with Muc-Off Degreaser, but I’m always worried about contaminating my disc rotors or brake pads.

I’m not really comfortable taking the cassette off or removing everything to clean it individually every time.

Is there anything people use to protect the rotors and calipers/pads while spraying degreaser? I’ve seen people mention things like rotor covers, plastic shields, or even just towels/cardboard, but I’m wondering what actually works well.

How do you all clean your drivetrain without risking brake contamination?

What travel torque wrench / mini torque set do you carry on rides?

I’m looking for a compact torque wrench or mini torque set to carry in my saddle bag for my Trek Checkpoint ALR 4.

Mainly for things like:
● stem bolts
● seatpost clamp
● handlebars
● accessory mounts

I don’t need a full workshop set, just something reliable for on-the-go adjustments and peace of mind.

I’ve looked at things like the Topeak Torq Rocket, Topeak Nano TorqBar, and Lezyne Pocket Torque Drive.

What do you use, and what would you recommend?

Tru-Tension Grime Guard for drivetrain cleaning?

I clean my bike on a repair stand using Muc-Off drivetrain cleaner and rinse with a hose on a light sprinkler setting (more like a waterfall from above rather than blasting it straight on).

I’m mainly looking at it to protect my brake rotors and stop degreaser overspray/runoff getting onto them while cleaning the chain and cassette.

Worth buying? Does it actually make a difference, or is it more of a gimmick?

Would be good to hear real-world experiences before I pick one up.

Best bell for a Trek Checkpoint

I’m looking for a bell for my bike and want something that works well on drop bars without taking up too much cockpit space.

Any suggestions?

New Trek Checkpoint owner here and fairly new to bike maintenance.

Wanted to ask what your go-to wash routine is after rides (especially in wet/muddy conditions).

Looking for a simple step-by-step process if anyone’s willing to share:

● what you use (bike cleaner, degreaser, brushes, etc.)
● what order you clean everything in
● how you dry it
● when/how you relube the chain
● anything to avoid doing

Trying to build good habits early and keep the bike in good shape, so would appreciate any factual advice from experienced owners.

How often to lube chain - Checkpoint ALR4

Quick question for the cyclists here — how often do you lube your chain?

My bike is brand new from Trek and I’ve only ridden it about 3 hours so far, but I want to clean it soon to keep it looking fresh. If I wash it without using a degreaser, should I still re-lube the chain after, or only when it starts looking/sounding dry?

Just trying to get a good maintenance routine going.

Best bike stand for storage in small spaces?

Looking for advice on the best bike stand for storage 👀

I’ve just bought a ROCKBROS stand (the type that keeps the bike upright when parked) and wanted to see what others think.

Space is pretty limited where I keep my bike, so I need something compact that keeps it stable without taking up too much room.

For anyone in a similar setup:

Is the ROCKBROS a good option?
● Are there better stands for small spaces?
● Any recommendations for something sturdier or more space-efficient?

New Trek Checkpoint ALR 4 owner — how do I remove the wheels properly?

Hi everyone, I recently bought a Trek Checkpoint ALR 4 and I’m still getting used to it. I’m trying to remove the wheels for transport/cleaning but I’m not 100% sure of the correct process.

It looks like it uses thru-axles rather than quick release, but I don’t want to mess anything up or damage the brake rotors.

Can anyone explain the proper way to remove both the front and rear wheels (and refit them correctly)? Any tips for a beginner would be appreciated.

Is it normal for a bike store-to-store transfer to take this long?

Just wondering if anyone has experience with a bike being transferred between stores.

I’m in the UK and a bike is being transferred from one store to another. It’s a fully assembled bike (not boxed) and is being collected by a courier rather than sent via a normal parcel service.

The store has advised that transfers can take around 1–1.5 weeks, and there have been some delays due to staffing at the sending store.

For those who have been through a similar process, is this fairly normal within the bike industry, or do store transfers usually happen much quicker?

Interested to hear other people’s experiences.

UK Trek store transfer question

Has anyone had a bike transferred between official Trek stores in the UK?

How long did it take from the point the bike left the original store to arriving at your local store?

I've heard of bikes being transferred between stores, but I'm surprised that it can take several working days when most deliveries nowadays are next day.

Do Trek use a specialist transport company for store transfers, and is it normal for it to take around a week?

Interested to hear other people's experiences.

How long do Trek store-to-store transfers usually take in the UK?

For anyone who's had a bike transferred between official Trek stores in the UK, how long did it take from the point the bike was shipped by the other store to it arriving at your local store?

I'm curious because we live in a world of next-day delivery, yet I've heard bike transfers can sometimes take several days or even over a week.

Does the fact that some Trek stores are closed on Sundays and Mondays have much impact on transfer times?

Interested to hear other people's experiences.

Checkpoint ALR4 vs 5

Hi all,

I’m new to cycling and looking to buy my first gravel bike. I’m currently deciding between the Trek Checkpoint ALR 4 and ALR 5, but I’m struggling to understand the key differences.

For someone who’s new to riding, are the upgrades on the ALR 5 noticeable and worth the extra cost, or would the ALR 4 be the better value option?

Would appreciate any advice from people who’ve ridden or owned either bike. Thanks!
