White whale! AR Denarius of Titus Aelius Antoninus Augustus - not yet Pius! Issued in ~July-August(?) 138, while battling the Senate over whether Hadrian should undergo consecration or damnatio memoriae. Moved by the new emperor's dedication, the Senate awarded him the name Antoninus Pius.

Long story short, I bought the HD400S on AliExpress because I had some shopping credits to burn that brought the price down to just $29. Reviews seemed solid enough so I went for it.

Primary intended use case was playing some retro games on my handheld while running a LOUD embroidery machine for my wife - so decent sound quality + as much noise isolation as possible.

To test them out, I charged up and plugged them in to my wife's old (Gen 2) iPod Touch. They sounded awful. On par with dollar store IEMs. Switched to an old pair of Apple earphones, and they sounded perfect - iPod wasn't at fault.

Then I plugged the 400S in to my Retroid and booted up Skies of Arcadia (CD-quality orchestral score on title screen), and it sounded amazing. Went on to Bandcamp on the RP5 to test out a few known albums, and those sounded great, too.

Then I plugged them into my computer (a nearly 13 year old Acer potato-book) and played some FLAC files - Sound was better than the iPod, but still bad. Went to the same Bandcamp pages - again, it sounded worse than on the handheld.

Am I doing something wrong here? Does my $200 Android handheld just have that much better audio processing than an old iPod or my PC?
