sources of 3 mm leca/clay pebbles

Where are you all getting smaller (3-5 mm) leca? Most of the stuff I'm seeing is at least $4-5/pound, which seems a bit pricy to me, especially since 5 pounds is like a planter or two. Or is that just what the price usually is?

mixed rock substrate ok?

https://preview.redd.it/kdin4eiu759h1.png?width=659&format=png&auto=webp&s=2c6165b2d764e9b7396670303ed913ffd86fddd4

I was reading about people using a mixed rock substrate, and wanted to try, but I also wanted to make sure enough water would get wicked. Thoughts about this mixture? I'm wondering if it would be enough since it seems to just dry out at the top and not really wick.

wanting to potentially use it with tropical/mexican pings

conditional formatting issues solved by making a copy?

What would cause conditional formatting to stop working on a sheet, but if I made a copy of the (non working) sheet, the conditional formatting comes back? Like literally nothing except making a copy of the sheet.

Initially, I thought it might be because I had some columns locked, but unlocking them didn't seem to make a difference.

hairless traps

Was just looking at the traps on some plants, and noticed they didn't have any trigger hairs. Will they still trap things or are they more just decorative at that point?

There's multiple types without the trigger hairs, but the only one I'm remembering now is chinese dumpling

ping substrate

Pretty sure I'm over thinking it, but recently got some pings (queen cthulhu, metallic purple, dragon, cyclosecta), and I'm wondering if the substrate stays too wet. I'm bottom watering, tray method in a tray with vft, sundews, and pitcher plants.

I'm using sand, peat moss, pumice, and perlite mix, but thinking maybe I should go inorganic. I'd prefer to use just 1 or two ingredients since I don't want to have a bunch of stuff just sitting around. I am thinking about pumice, leca (3 mm size), or calcined clay. Kinda leaning pumice or small leca.

I'd also like something that's easy to maintain, which kinda pushes me more towards leca since it's clay balls that should be easy to clean. But obviously, I want what will work best with the pings.

Has anyone grown those (or similar) pings with 1 ingredient substrate?

I do have coir, peat/perlite mix, the sand/peat/pumice/perlite mix currently being used, and lfsm already, so if needed, I could mix those in without additional purchases.

ping substrate and moisture levels

Recently got some pings from two different places, and I'm wondering what's normal/how to care for them.

I have Queen Cthulhu, metallic purple, dragon, and cyclosecta.

cthulhu seems to be doing well or at least not dying, but not really growing. It does have two or three things sticking out further that are new. Not sure what these are.

Metallic purple and cyclosecta aren't growing either, but some of their bottom leaves seem to be wilting/dying?

I'm wondering if I have them too wet or what might be going on. They're bottom watered and in sand, peat moss, pumice, and perlite mix. Grown inside, around 15 hr light/day

conditional formatting to change text format and background color independently

I want to use conditional formatting to change text format or background color according to some conditions.

I'd like to have one condition to change text color in defined range of cells, and then another condition to set the background color of the same range of cells. But I'm not sure how to get it to change one vs the other.

For example, it will just follow the conditional formats in order, but once a rule has been applied, that row seems to be taken out of consideration for subsequent rules.

substrate packing density

What's better? packing in the substrate pretty densely or leaving it more loose?

Asking because I'd always thought to pack it more loosely, but I recently got some plants, and the substrate was packed in super tight

fungus gnats

Recommendations on how to deal with fungus gnats? They like the same conditions as the plants, and the plants I have (mostly vft) don't really deal with the gnats.

Probably need something ongoing since the plants are going to keep liking their conditions. Thought about BTI, but haven't really had much luck with it previously. DE also won't work since the top of the soil is always wet from sitting in a tray of water.

Any other ideas? I do have some sundews and a ping, but it's not enough apparently

conditional formatting based on values

I'm trying to get certain cells to display a color if they're not between certain values, but no color if they are. I think I have it so that columns I and J should have no color except for rows 7-9, but the other rows are still colored even though they are within the range where there should be no formatting.

Where'd I go wrong?

math mammoth

currently thinking about switching to math mammoth since I don't feel like the current curriculum we have builds a strong sense of math concepts.

I'd like something that's pretty open and use and will do the teaching. I don't mind helping out, but especially at mid/upper elem and beyond, I think they should be able to kinda teach themselves and they can ask for clarification on things if needed or I can add clarification if I'm seeing it would be helpful. Prefer offline, but I don't mind having videos and other stuff like that here and there and used on a need basis. Just not looking for a full online course.

Math Mammoth seems to fit the bill, but I always get nervous when making changes. Has anyone used it to the end and it did/didn't work well? I don't want lack of understanding of math concepts to be a limiting factor for my kids.

stinky clothes after febu?

Been having issues with clothes slightly stinking after being worn for a bit, but they smell fine coming out of the washer and dryer.

Just got febu, so did a load using that, and the laundry stinks after washing. Is that typical? Will it go away (at least to the point where it's not worse than it was before) after going through the dryer?

I'm thinking the febu started working on breaking down some of the gunk, but didn't quite get a chance to finish. If that's the case, I'm guessing it will get better over time?

how much does detergent really matter if you're using boosters?

basically the title.

How much difference will I likely see in my final result if I use something like fragrance free Hill Country Fare/generic brand vs say, Tide Free and Gentle, both liquids and boosted with febu. Hard water, regular dirtiness, some sweatiness.

Or is it just that the Tide Free and Gentle is less likely to need something like febu whereas the generic is likely to benefit from the addition of febu?
