What's the stupidest customer you've had?

I'll start.

Customer states: "There's a loud clanking noise in the back that sounds like pots and pans"...there was in fact a bunch of loose pots and pans in the back.

Customer states: "Your mechanic broke my ignition switch when he did my oil change and tire rotation"....the steering was locked.

Customer states: "The passenger window only works with the driver switch"....the window lock button was toggled on.

Customer states: "The engine burns oil. They have been topping off with water instead of oil to save money. No Crank with no start."... I found engine to be locked up. The customer insists I install a used starter they procured then charge their battery. This unit was towed in by another pickup truck with a harbor freight ratchet strap.

There are many more instances that seriously impact how I feel about the humans we have the misfortune of sharing these roads and world with. What's y'all's experience?

What's a good extrernal SSD option for a legion 7 pro?

I have added a 4tb internal SSD to the second slot, but it's almost full. I'd like to upgrade both ssds to 8tb eventually, but external is fine for now. I think the transfer speeds will be limited to whatever the type-c ports are capable of, but I mostly play games that are old and run just fine on HDD and dvd.

I'm after massive storage and longevity over transfer speeds given the bottleck, so what do y'all recommend? Price isn't a big deal

Absolutely joke of an entity

Words can not describe the level of hate I carry for the DMV. I am reminded of the nightmare that is the NC DMV every other month when I receive letters stating my insurance has lapsed (It has not). How can they not see that it is active when both law enforcement and I can?

This is nothing more than extortion paid for by us. I do not understand why and the ever living hell we have to miss work to go stand in line to jump through these bureaucratic hoops.

God forbid a vehicle needs expensive repairs and has to be parked for a while. You have to turn your tag in before you cancel your insurance in order to save money on a vehicle that isn't drivable, then pay to register it again. That was financially devastating to me when I was young. That's a lot of money to throw away for no return.

I feel bad for the staff. They look just as miserable as the victims do.

I'm thinking of changing paths or adding one. I'd greatly appreciate some insite. (It's a long story, so skip to the end for my question if you wanna)

Hello all! I'd like to preface the following by giving some background on my personal success story in a low income area with a high and very much growing cost of living (North Carolina).

Like many of you probably did as well, I have changed career paths and companies multiple times over the span of the last thirteen years to find a source of income that meets two requirements; the first one being high enough compensation, and the second one being something I enjoyed.

In those ten years I started as a personal trainer/self defense coach in the evening, while learning how to carry out repairs on film equipment though an internship (Lights, generators, cables, trucks, trailers, carts, etc). I enjoyed both gigs but I was only earning $250 a month for three years and had to do side work. The gym I worked at got shut down a week after I was promoted to full time at $25.00/hr because the owner got in trouble with the IRS. I had no choice but to pivot.

I then enrolled in trade school for a welding degree where I took their night courses whilst earning a whopping $9.00/hour as a welder helper during the day. I then bounced around different welding shops, residential/commercial electrical companies, and general contractors because I couldn't find anyone willing to pay more than $20.00/hr to even their top guys; they were all dead ends. I only ever stuck around long enough to learn new skill sets because I quickly recognized everyone was miserable and inflation grows faster than pay increases. $15.00/hr-$20.00/hr isn't enough to get treated like dirt by nepotism babies.

Everything changed when I started a mobile repair business at 19 years old after saving up money from side jobs, day jobs, backyard fight wagers(betting on myself), and flipping anything I could buy low/sell high to purchase a used truck, and then out-fit it with a welding machine and to tooling needed. The eighty hour weeks paid off and I finally had $25k worth of assets I could use to make my own living. I made it...I thought.

I lived and traveled out of my rig earning $250-$1000 a day with zero debt and almost no living expenses for all of six months, until one day someone hotwired and stole my truck while I was inside of a CVS pharmacy; consequently, they drove off with every single thing I owned and had to start my life over.

I frankly wanted to give up at that point, but a childhood friend called to let me know he missed me and then asked when he'd see me again. Nobody except you strangers on reddit know that he saved me from "retiring early" in a pawnshop bathroom in Columbia, SC. I remembered the people in my life that I wanted to help and why I worked so hard to get out of the rat race in the first place. I just had to return home a failure.

My truck was recovered, but it was severely damaged by the thieves. What money I had left went to getting my truck out of the tow company's dirty hands, making it drivable again, and then returning to my hometown. After that I simply could not bring myself to work like I did before for peanuts. I decided to do something easier and become a mechanic.

I spent five years homeless, couch surfing, and even living in some of the shops I work for. I also picked up shifts as a bouncer/barback at night while working my way up from entry level mechanic to being very well rounded in multiple industries during the day. After I got good enough to justify better pay, no company cared. They wanted replacble people for cheap just like in every industry. Needless to say, I was angry every second of every day. Being overqualified and underpaid sucks, especially when you know how business works and can see the greed mixed with incompence

Two years ago I met my now fiancee at the lowest point in my life, and year ago I got on with an amazing company where I enjoy what I do as a mobile diesel technician. I work far less hours than I ever have, I get to help people every day, and I earn a six figure income alongside some really great people. I currently love life again and am engaged to an amazing woman that gets to choose to work when she wants to because we have the financial freedom to do so on one income (never saw that coming).

I know that was a lot to read, but I hope my experience will help a few people get through their rough patch if that's where they are. Life isn't fair, but it can get better if you're persistent, educate yourself, and refuse to support greedy companies. None of what I did would have worked as fast as it did had I trapped myself in a bad relationship, having kids too early, or developing a substance abuse issue. Luck also plays a role, I recovered from losing everything I owned, but I still had my health and badass friends.

I know my body won't hold up long enough to keep doing what I do, so I want to know from you guy/gals. What are some remote tech options? Is cyber security, tech support, or programming a good direction to look?

What are the challenges in making cross-platform features work?

I'm interested in hearing from anyone tech savvy. The ability to play on my laptop at work or in the same room with my fiancee while she's on the PS5 is dope to say the least, but are half the hit registration and packet loss issues caused by it?

What is standard procedure for repairs and maintenance?

This is a question that drivers, dispatch, management, or anyone in the know is welcome to answer/weight in on.

I'm a diesel tech by trade. I carry out maintenance and repairs on everything from tractors, trailers, forklifts, to any manor of company vehicle.

Some inspections and repairs are scheduled and carried out on site, or at our shop. Others are done wherever or whenever they breakdown.

I'm curious what some companies lean towards to prevent breakdowns/loss of income. Some longtime customers schedule us to do complete inspections/repairs afterhours when the units are not in use, while others may neglect maintenance altogether and call us when things go wrong.

While I earn my income by repairing machines, I can't help but wonder why many repairs are postponed. I'd like to know if some drivers don't do pre-trips inspections, drivers don't always know what to look for, or don't report their findings. Are some in-house mechanics or shops overlooking things? Or if maybe preventative repairs aren't in the budget and management has no choice but to wait, I do understand everything costs more than it used to.

Ultimately I feel bad for everyone involved from the driver earning less while waiting in the heat, to the company earning less from the downtime. I understand many things can't be predicted, but most of the time it's relatively inexpensive maintenance items being neglected. For example; a dry rotted airbag blowing resulting damage to many other components such as wheel seals, bearings, brake liners, drums/rotors etc.

Everything breaks eventually, I just want to know what you guys and gals think are the causes for the more expensive unscheduled repairs.

Four months into ownership. Absolutely exceeded my expectations.

I ordered the AMD (9955hx) variant with the 5070ti on sale for $1800 USD to use at work and for gaming. Coming from the PS5 I was immediately blown away by the load times and graphics (some things are still better optimized and load faster on the PS5). Installed a 4tb SSD into the second slot and have experienced nothing but smooth gameplay with no crashes. It probably goes without saying that work related tasks are a non-factor to this machine. Definitely worth the one month wait to get it.

How can I help keep my fiancee on her medication?

Hello everyone. I'm here because we need support in the form of advice. My fiancee is bipolar, yet she's one of the most mentally/emotionally stable people I have ever known, but when she crashes...she CRASHES. She has been to therapy and has learned how to be the best version of herself and does okay-ish off her meds most of the time. That being said, the two doctors she has seen have retired shortly after writing a prescription and were difficult to get refills from, causing us to basically run in circles playing extra and taking more unnecessary days off work. How on earth do we get her duloxetine prescription written, filled, and RE-FILLED steadily?

TLDR; It's always been a royal pain to get it filled, but even harder to get it refilled. Is there an online based provider that is more stable/reliable than my love's mood so she doesn't have to withdraw, load testing our relationship, and missing work?

I have a 2000 dyna lowrider with a 585 cam sitting at 90k miles on the original 88ci motor and 5 speed trans. I'm looking to replace both as they have been abused. I was hoping someone could weigh in and help me make up my mind on what engine and transmission I should go with.

I should add that I'm okay with compromising cost and reliability for power.
