Why are we normalising romantic storylines between a minor actress and adult male leads?

I genuinely don't understand why there isn't more discussion about this. My issue isn't with the actors themselves it's with the creative and production decisions. A few things that bother me: The lead actress is a minor, while both male leads are adults. Even if the scenes aren't explicit, building a romantic triangle around that dynamic feels uncomfortable. And I feel there are scenes which are too steamy for a minor. TV has a huge influence, especially on younger audiences. When such pairings are presented as normal romance, it sends a questionable message. There are plenty of talented adult actresses. Why cast a minor in a role that requires romantic chemistry with significantly older co-stars? Child actors deserve protection. Their professional opportunities shouldn't require them to perform age-inappropriate romantic storylines. If the story could have been told by aging up the character or casting an adult, why wasn't that done? I'm genuinely surprised that instead of addressing these concerns, the show continues to grow. Am I overreacting, or do others also think the industry needs clearer boundaries when it comes to minors in romantic storylines?

New shows I am excited about

Is it just me, or does this new ITV lineup actually look... promising? 😭

For the first time in a while, I'm genuinely interested in quite a few upcoming/current shows.

108 Base Hospital is at the top of my list.

First of all, it's a finite series, and that's already a huge plus. ITV genuinely excels when it's not stretching stories endlessly for TRPs. The cast is solid too Erica, Gashmeer, Nikhil, and Hiten Tejwani are all promising actors. I also like that the story is set in an actual location instead of another generic Film City mansion. From the promos, the medical treatment and procedures already seem far more grounded than what we usually get. Dr. Rohit Sippy from Kahan Hum Kahan Tum would probably approve. 😂 I'm really looking forward to this one.

Then there's Yeh Fitoor Mera.

I already have a soft spot for Ishan because of his previous work and how he carries himself off-screen, so I'm automatically rooting for the show. Debchandrima will always be Lalita from Parineeta to me—that performance made me a fan. I'm so happy to see her in something that actually looks substantial. I honestly couldn't get into Suhagan Chudail. No hate to Nia; she's good, but that show just wasn't for me.

I recently watched one of the promos where Jeet (Ishan) was motivating her, and it gave me hope that he won't be a walking red flag. I'm guessing his love will be intense rather than toxic, and honestly, that's exactly what I'm craving. We desperately need a genuinely good romance on ITV. TJJD comes close, but I'm still waiting for that one show that fully delivers. Looking at Ishan's previous roles, he usually plays green-flag characters, so I'm hoping this ML is emotionally mature, deeply loving, and doesn't behave like a second mother-in-law. 😭 This one has real potential.

Chudail Chali Sasural is another show I'm excited about.

The biggest reason is Hiba Nawab. She absolutely nails comedy (Elaaichi will always be iconic 😭❤️). She also has such a charming screen presence. The lead pair looks adorable too.

And honestly, I'm just nostalgic for the old SAB TV days—Ring Rong Ring, Gili Gili Gappa, Jugni Chali Jalandhar... the channel had such a unique identity with light-hearted comedy. Somewhere along the way, it started feeling like another Star Plus. I'm really hoping this show brings back at least a bit of that old SAB charm.

Then comes Bareilly Ke Bacchan.

The few scenes I've watched already feel refreshing. The FL is gorgeous, and I'm interested to see how Sangam balances marriage with continuing her studies. Pravisht also seems to be playing a different kind of character, and I've always found him to be a good actor. Definitely keeping an eye on this one.

Some other shows I'm hoping improve with time are Tum Dena Saath Mera, Sairaab (please let it have fewer toxic characters and gain decent TRPs), and Seher Hone Ko Hai. After the leap, it seems like many of its problematic tropes might finally be gone, so I'm hoping the makers take the story in a fresher direction.

Overall, I haven't felt this optimistic about ITV in a long time. Maybe it's because we're finally getting more finite stories, newer concepts, and a few fresh pairings instead of the same recycled saas-bahu formula.

Anyone else excited about this lineup? Which show are you rooting for the most?

This series🤌🤌 I think best Romantic ott show

My God, this series was actually so good.

I honestly don't know how I stumbled upon it. I was just looking for a new Hindi-dubbed K-drama to watch while cooking, and somehow ended up finding this. I didn't even realize at first that it was based on the same Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay novel.

What I loved most was that the series had so much more depth than the movie adaptation. I could truly feel Shekhar's dilemmas and inner conflicts, and the story took me through every emotion.

I loved Lalita's passion for nationalism, her habit of taking responsibility for everything related to Shekhar, their beautiful bond, and her unwavering love for him, even when he was rude, mistrustful, and hurtful towards her. What I appreciated even more was that when she finally became disheartened by his behavior, she didn't go begging for his love. Instead, she focused on teaching and living her own life.

The series also gave Shekhar much more nuance. He was more mature than Lalita in many ways, yet he always gave in whenever she asked him for something even the most childish things. I loved how he would hand her money every time she asked for it as if it was her right, and how genuinely worried he was about society's reaction after Lalita's uncle joined the Brahmo Samaj.

The acting was excellent across the board. Every character felt believable. The show itself was visually beautiful too, almost every frame looked gorgeous. I especially loved the saree Lalita wore in the final episode in Shekhar's room.

Debchandrima Singha Roy was fantastic. Which is exactly why I'm baffled that someone with her talent ended up in a show like Suhagan Chudail. It feels like such a waste of her potential. Gaurav Chakrabarty was equally impressive and completely won me over as Shekhar.

If anyone knows more Bengali series like this one, please recommend them! Preferably short series this one was only six episodes, which was perfect. 😍
