Ghost World for me is a great Saturday Matinee movie

The music is awesome. Maybe it's bc I saw after Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, but after a rewatch does anyone find it an over the top, tropey, camp, at times silly rock n rock biopic? When I see the half naked native American I think of Wayne's World 2. All the naked people running around each concert. Meg Ryan pulling a knife on Thanksgiving. Val Kilmer throwing the TV set in the recording studio after critizing the band for selling out. Ed Sulllivan looks like a costume. Vals fake beards and wigs. Dropping peyote in the desert. But the cast is amazing. An early 90s who's who in supporting roles. I really liked it as a light movie
Hadn't seen Friday Night Lights the movie in ages and gave a rewatch. Still really good. But what's funny is it came out a few years after such episodes as Bills Are Made to Be Broken and Peggy Makes the Big Leagues and such similar characters. There's Ricky Suggs and Boobie Miles who both tear their ACL. The local sports radio guys like Sports Jock and Chad. The local boosters etc. But the bestselling book based on the 1988 Permian team came out before KOTH. But only Mike Judge can capture the football fanaticism of Texas high school at the time of which I never experienced but still find fascinating. Arlen High won the Texas state football championship in 1983 but in real life Permian won it in 1984. So into this football season give em all rewatch Ill tell ya what.
At times I thought it was a little tropey wity the usual rock n roll biopics but then it kept things turning for an enjoyable ride. The directing and cinematography and sound were great. Lots of good scenes. Solid acting. Good cast

When she storms off after telling the Ballet instructor and Drama teacher that will be her final tryout, they don't try to stop her. Lol. And the ballet instructor gets paid to teach her I'm assuming.
Mr Brady dropped the ball on that one. Peter gets fired twice, Greg loses the blueprints and gets locked in Sam's freezer. Bobby was a nitpicky narc and couldn't sell.
When Perry Minasian first became GM he traded Gold Glove Caliber catcher Martin Moldanado to make room for Max Stassi and more offense. He thrived with the Astros They've never had as great a defensive catcher since and languish in last place.
Zach Minasian trades Gold Glove catcher Bailey to the Guardians for more offense. He's thriving w the Guardians and the Giants are in near late place and still have no offense.

I was reading the Ice Storm and there was a passage about the wealthy daughter Libbets Casey(played by Katie Holmes in the movie) that caught my eye, "Libbets wouldn't have to work either. True idleness-ski instructing for example -waa frowned upon in her family, but there was no need to hazard an office job."
Well I never realized that even among the wealthy, ski instructor was considered idle. And another word for idle is sloth. So as Burroughs foreshadowed he had to pay for that deadly sin.
